From the BeerPipeline.com: Drinking with Julian #1 – Hungry Tiger bar in Portland, Pabst vs. Hamm's and Beau of Mark Twain Indians

Yesterday, on my Myspace page–Myspace.com/BeerPipeline –I announced that I would drink a beer with a different person every day this year. But, I have decided that I don't want to go to a bar (or drink)every night, so I am going to try to get in 100 or so of these over the next year.

So, if you want to drink a beer with Julian, and be on the BeerPipeline doing so, hit me up at my myspace page or beerpipeline at gmail dot com.

This is Ted Easton, lead singer and guitar player for Mark Twain Indians. This was last evening at the Hungry Tiger bar in SE Portland- a good place. As you can see, the Pabst vs Hamm's beer battle was in effect.

Who's next? Check back soon!

Free Movie at 5th Avenue Cinema on Friday, Oct. 20th from the director of Xanadu and Outfoxed

“The PSU Rearguard, Students For Unity, and the PSU Film Commitee present a free screening of Iraq For Sale, the latest documentary from director Robert Greenwald (Outfoxed, Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Prices, Steal This Movie, Xanadu) on Friday Oct. 20th.

The film will show at 7 and 9:30 at the 5th Ave Cinema located at SW 5th and Hall. “

Robert Greeenwald is a fantastic dirctor and you can find more information about him here on IMDB.

He made Xanadu, which if you haven't seen, is a classic…and fantastic! Although, I might be in the minority on this opinion since it only receives a 4.3 out of 10 on IMDB.

"The Largest Beer Stein in the World" is right here in Portland, Oregon!

I went into a German Deli here in Portland last week called Edelweiss Sausage and Delicatessen. It was great. I had a nice beer-wurst, brotchen, and side of sauer kraut for around $4. They have the spicy mustard that I miss from Germany.

They also have this- the “largest beer stein in the world“!. Hey, it's only $4,700 and you can make payment arrangments aka “layaway program“. I am saving a dollar a day now, and will get that stein in about 15 years. Anyone want to go in on this?

The Sprokettes will be performing a benefit at Disjecta in November

“The Sprockettes, Portland 's own all female mini-bike dance troupe,
is hosting our very first benefit on Friday, November 17th at Disjecta, and we'd like you to be a part of this momentous
event!

Our mission is to entertain audiences by choreographing dances to
songs while using bikes in our performances.

The benefit night will be a variety show of live music, dance performances by the Sprockettes and other bicycle dance groups, a silent auction, displayed art, a
bling-your-bike” station, video projections of live footage
and still shots from our shows, a Dj'd dance party, and general mayhem!”

A PDX PIPELINE camera crew saw this group perform at the Rose City Rollers, where I took the above picture. They were great to watch, and this benefit is a good cause and sure to be a fun time. Posted by Picasa

Portland Farmers Market- It's Mushroom Time! and "The Great Pumpkin Event"

Corn Title

http://portlandfarmersmarket.org

Fall's first light rains quickly produce the seasonal magic of wild mushrooms. These gems of the forest and farmland are already making an appearance in the booths at PFM. On Wednesdays you'll find a wide selection of delectable fungi at Bittersweet Farm and Springwater Farm. On Saturdays they are joined by Misty Mountain's bountiful selection of nearly a dozen different varieties plus additional chanterelles from vendors, Early Mom and & Favorite Produce of Oregon. Stop by the PFM Taste the Place booth this Saturday for free samples of freshly cooked mushroom delights.

Nutritional Information Mushrooms are an excellent source of many minerals including Selenium, needed for the proper function of the antioxidant system and Copper, which helps the body utilize iron, maintains the health of bones and connective tissues, and keeps the thyroid gland functioning normally. They are also an excellent source of Potassium, Phosphorous, and Zinc, which helps balance blood sugar, prevents a weakened immune system, and supports an optimal sense of smell and taste. Crimini mushrooms in particular are a very good source of Vitamin B1 and B6. Shiitake mushrooms are a very good source of iron, protein, dietary fiber, and Vitamin C.

A large number of studies conducted over the last ten years have shown that another active component in shiitake mushrooms, called eritadenine, lowers cholesterol levels. Recent studies have also found an active compound in shiitake mushrooms called lentinan. Among lentinan's healing benefits is the ability to power up the immune system by strengthening its ability to fight infection and disease.

Colorful autumn leaves from the 100-year old Elms that line the Park Blocks make the perfect backdrop for the local harvest you will find at the market. We have monthly special events to enhance your experience — but with the agriculture bounty our region produces, every market day is a festival!

Mounds of brilliant pumpkins, ornate gourds and dried herb and flower wreaths signal fall has arrived at the farmers market. Whether you're celebrating the bounty of the harvest or the fact that Halloween is around the corner, you'll find sensory delights abound at the Great Pumpkin Event. Fill up on warm, sweet pumpkin hazelnut pancakes. Watch master carvers from Typhoon! Restaurants take pumpkin and gourd carving to new heights. Choose a free pumpkin and carve a jack-o'-lantern on site and enter the Pumpkin Carving Invitational! At noon, kids can give their costumes a trial run and participate in a parade through the market and take home a treat.

FRIGHT TOWN!

“BOO! Okay, that wasn't scary. But FrightTown—three haunted houses crammed beneath the Coliseum—is scary. For one ticket, you can check out Baron Von Goolo's Museum of Horrors, Elshoff Manor: The Asylum, and—new this year—Black Box (with 'horror served raw and screaming'). Yikes. Halloween is here. I've been drinking wine out of a skull glass for a month now, and people thought I was coming a little early with it– but now– they want to use them when they are over at my house. You can–if you buy me a ticket to Fright Town!
