Daily Stank Image Bank 2: Santacon by Jason Quigley Photography

Very cool Santacon 2005 shot here from Jason.  Info from Jason on his Flickr Page:

I shoot bands and musicians and other things in Portland. I love music and this city. Hopefully that shows in the pictures I take.

Santacon, Portland, Oregon, defending the public from santas

Jason sent this message over about the picture:

This shot was taken during Santacon, in 2005, outside of Mary's club downtown. The bike cops followed us around all day just to make sure Santa didn't get too crazy. They were actually pretty cool about the whole thing, despite getting harassed all day by drunk people in Santa suits.

Take care,
Jason

"Do you ever find yourself desperately looking for a clean toilet in the city?"

I ran across this site and it looks like it could be useful. Actually, it is definitely useful if you find yourself in need of a clean toilet in downtown Portland. The technology of the future is here–we still haven't got our jetpacks, but at least we can get text messages telling us where clean, close toilets are.

From the Mizpee website:

MizPee Portland Oregon

Do you ever find yourself desperately looking for a clean toilet in the city?

MizPee finds the closest, cleanest toilets in your area. You can add and review toilets, get some cool deals in your area and challenge your knowledge of toilet trivia (yes, you read that correctly–”toilet trivia”).

To access Mizpee from your phone, go to www.mizpee.com from your mobile browser. Or simply enter your mobile phone number and carrier, and we will send the URL to your phone!

Dec: Give the gift of giving | DonorsChoose | Help Education

For your friends and family that don't really need anything, you can often donate to a cause they support. The only downside is the lack of connection and the fear that your contribution went to something the recipient doesn't support or doesn't care about.

If you know someone who cares about education, then DonorsChoose is for you. Teachers upload requests for donations for specific projects or needs and the estimated cost to support it. You can search by geography, type of school, project cost, subject area and others.

There are plenty of requests from Oregon. Here is a request for a light-table for a kindergarten class and here is one for a special art project for kindergarteners. The website will tell you how much goes to maintain the service and how much goes to the teacher so you will know just how your money is spent.

If education isn't your bag, there is always Heifer.org.

Daily Stank Image Bank: Santacon 2007 by Squid Vicious from 94.7/KRNK

These are from Portland's annual Santacon event. Here is some info about Santacon from Drunken Rampage. I suggest you go there for even more information on this event including some stuff that is NSFW.

Portland Santacon Pictures by Squid Viscious

SANTACON is honestly the largest event of the year. It is put on by the Portland Cacophony Society and occurs worldwide. Portland's caco society had Santacon for the first time in 1996, and was promptly in trouble with the cops. Just like the original Santas in S.F (which started 17 years ago).

THIS IS A 12-14 HOUR RAMPAGE! PACE YOURSELF!

It is NOT in any way a family friendly, kidsafe pro-christmas thing….read more at the Pipeline or at Drunken Rampage

These pictures were taken by Squid Vicious. You can see the set here on flickr. Squid sent this information over about his pictures (and apparent enslavement).

Pretty much I go by the name Squid Vicious, my parents are flip floppers sometimes they call me by my slave name, and friends were givin a choice, call me Squid or we aren't friends. I'm a local radio DJ who works for 94/7 FM “KNRK”. I like to take photo's but not using perfect light, perfect faces or perfect anything. That is easy. I experience Portland and like to take photo's of this great city.

SQuid Viscious of KRNK, 94/7, 94.7, Portland, Oregonbesides my official site www.squidvicious.com i have many but that seems to link to all the others easy enough.

s.v.

Also, you can catch Squid DJing on 94/7 (and probably streaming on the interwebs as well) “Saturday 7pm-Midnight. and a few fill-ins here and there.”
