Flaspar
“Flaspar is fashionable nightclub punk, the sort of thingrolling bass lines, glassy, sexy female vocals that (as former Vegas dance evangelical Atole explained to me last week) is perfect for tricking indie-rock kids into dancing. But Flaspar is no scam: The quartet knows well enough that it's hitting on an all-the-rage style (a la the Killers), but backing it up with enough free-form psych chops to keep music snots like me happy.” Michael Byrne @ Willamette Week

Portland Zombie Walk Review: Adventures in Zombiedom

As a first-time attendee of the Portland Zombie Walk, I was not sure what to expect.

I dig zombies. And I love Portland. This boasted both.

I first arrived at 3:45, with only two zombies in the Pioneer Courthouse Square. There were, however, already 50 observers waiting for zombies.
You think you're safe

At about 3:55, they started showing up in masses. There were chefs, brides, hookers, police officers, athletes, celebrities, even babies. I love baby zombies.

By now, there were at least 150 observers.

After a half hour of photo snapping (most of which you can see on the (Zombie Walk Flickr pool!) a group of zombie dancers began performing a well-rehearsed Thriller dance… Read the rest of this entry »

EAGLES OF DEATH METAL Friday, 10/31 6:00 PM
Eagles of Death Metal are back with more of their Seventies-inspired, mega-riffing classicism. The EODM formula for fantastic is, humm, let's see…that's one part Jesse "Boots Electric" Hughes, one part Joshua "Babyduck" Homme stirred and served chillllled in a tall glass of class…It goes down smooth every time.
