First Thursday at Core Art Gallery | Brent Wear | Also, VP Debate

Looks what's happening at the smallest art gallery (often surrounded by the biggest party) in Portland. Also, VP debate's on “Patrick's TV”.

A message from Anna:

Brent Wear, Core Art Gallery

This month in the Core, we will be showcasing new paintings by Portland Artist Brent Wear.

You can usually find Brent working in his studio at the Egg, above the Launchpad Gallery, at SE 5th and Oak. Brent has been showing his work around Portland at venues such as Backspace Gallery, Urban Wine Works, Sky and Boat, Fife Restaurant, the Portland Opera, and a rather long list of upstart galleries, coffee shops, bars, and restaurants. Find out more about Brent on his website: http://www.brentwear.com

Opening at the Core, First Thursday, Oct 2, 2008
6-10PM
625 NW Everett
we will also be playing the VP debate on Patrick's TV for those interested

I wonder if Patrick has a 42 inch plasma HD? I'm guessing…probably not, but I bet it will be an interesting place to watch.

Various Dance Party at Branx: Dubstep, Jungle, Ruckus | October 4

Various takes place on the first Saturday of every month. The shows are always rockin' and often there is a contingent from the Emerald City that comes down. I was at the last Various with Deville in December. It was a great time. Sure to be packed up this Saturday. Why?

Where else can you get bass-pounding dubstep action in the NW? Plus…H.A.S System = awesome.

From Monkeytek DJ:
various

Various welcomes the return of Deville (Leeds, UK) . He rocked Various 1 Year Anniversary last December and returns for another evening of bass-driven mayhem.

His tunes are being supported by the likes of El-B, Mary-Anne Hobbs, Plastician, Darkstar, , Starkey, Monkeytek, H.E.N.C.H. Crew, Oris Jay and Cardopusher amongst others.

He has followed the path of dubstep from it's origins in Garage and his dj sets reflect his love of the roots and future of this bass-driven music.

Deville comes to the dance with a wide array of styles and sounds to draw from and is sure to keep the party jumping.

Check the myspace for sounds and his new “Stamina” 12″ on Senseless Records (available at Anthem Records in Portland).

It's October, and Halloween is creeping up.  If you have pictures from PDX Halloweens past, send them on over either by email or into the flickr group.

*update: Post originally stated this was the max. This was changed to Portland Streetcar, which takes TriMet tickets, but is not TriMet.
