Portland Trail Blazers: Rip City Uprise | Playoff Tickets + Pioneer Square Rally

It's half-time in the Blazers-Clippers game and Portland Trailblazers Playoffs 2009: Rip City UprisePortland took over in dramatic fashion at the end of the second quarter. The Trail Blazers have just two more regular season home games and the possibility of having home court advantage in the 1st round of the playoffs feels much more likely after beating the Lakers last night.

Even Tina Fey is a Blazers fan now!*

The team is calling the Playoff march “Rip City Uprise” and you can watch the flash movie about it and buy this T-shirt design  at the official website. If you don't have flash, you can view the screenshots I made of it on flickr.

Jason Quick is writing fantastic behind-the-scenes articles for the Oregonian and this morning's is my favorite of the season: Behind the Blazers Locker Room Door: At home with the Lakers. There is also a lot of great info about the camaraderie of the Blazers team and several inside looks that makes you like them even more.

Example (highlights mine):

Nobody on the team gets razzed for their clothes more than Sergio. Most often, teammates are making fun of his jackets, which always appear to be two sizes too small and from the 1980s. I believe Frye refers to them as “Members Only” jackets.

On Friday, Roy got a kick out of Rodriguez's studded belt, which was accompanied by a black velvet jacket with a purple collar.

“Oh my word, look at what Serge has going tonight,'' Roy tells Bayless.

Roy rides Rodriguez a little, but the Spaniard lets it slide right off him.

“We have a different style, a European style,'' he says adjusting his jacket for emphasis. “They know it's cool.''

Unlike many other teams in professional sports, this is definitely a group that makes me feel proud they represent our community. The article has many paragraphs on Nic Batum, who in recent weeks has become a fan favorite. Here is a previous Pipeline post on Batum: Portland Trail Blazers: Nicolas Batum "Crushes" the Rim

The team is holding a pep rally in Pioneer Square on Thursday and Pipeline will be there to live-stream video and update the goings on for those of you who might have to be at work and school and want to watch. Time has not been announced. I'll update where to watch when the official time is announced.

April 14: Rally Update from the team's twitter account: “the rally goes from noon to 3, with the team showing up around 2.”

Playoff Tickets also go on sale Thursday, although not may. From the Blazers website:

Earlier Thursday, at noon, tickets will go on sale for the first two home games of the "Rip City Uprise" – a.k.a. the 2009 NBA Playoffs — at the Rose Garden. Less than 1,000 tickets are expected to be available for each game. Tickets will be sold exclusively at the Rose Quarter box office, with a maximum of four total tickets available to each customer.

As someone who was born in 1977 (the year the Blazers won their only championship), who grew up cheering for Terry Porter, Clyde Drexler, Jerome Kersey, Buck Williams and Kevin Duckworth, and who was heartbroken (literally) by the Jail Blazers era, I cannot express how gratifying it is to have a team that represent Portland so aptly, that plays and wins the right way. And I can’t wait for the playoffs! Whoo-hoo!!!
