Big Business, May 23 @ Dante's

Okay Portland this is your weekend to get your heaviness on!

Tonight for $10, The Melvins' protégé band (this is debatable), Big Business (website), rocks Dante's at 9:00 PM.  They are playing their latest weighty release, ‘Mind the Drift' which is layered with rich sound and deep barrel-like drumming.  Influence from The Melvins is apparent, but Big Business has their own their personality you need to feel in person to gain a full appreciation for.  Stand next to the speakers and you will get what that means.

The Melvins, May 24 @ Roseland

Then tomorrow night $20 will get you into The Roseland to witness what promises to be an unforgettable live performance by The Melvins (myspace). Not only are they one of the best rock bands to ever exist, but they are also said to be playing two sets. Rumored: One with their 1983 line up, includes THE Joe Preston, and another playing their most famous LP, which was co-produced by Kurt Cobain in 1993, called ‘Houdini'.

‘Houdini' is nothing less than historical, even the album art by Frank Kozik is legendary. Kozik is famous (along with Art Chantry) for bringing back the art of the rock poster in the 1980's and 90's, and presently for his toy creations, which include the smoking rabbit.

Everything written here tells you, this show is not to be missed! No matter if you are an indie-pop fan aspiring to be a great musician or a seasoned music lover, a Melvins live set always leaves you dazed with awe-inspiring thoughts for weeks following a show. Its in the drums. Doors open at 9:00 PM.
