I did it.
We ALL did it:
Wrote teen-aged unrequited love songs. Kept emotionally overwrought diaries of our seventh grade club-kid escapades. Composed serious poetry about our sexuality before we'd even had our first kiss. Attended public school in the 80's.
We are all pathetic. We are all imperfect. We all have reason to be Mortified.
Mortified is a series of readings held in cities across the country. Volunteers share their most embarrassing moments in their former selves' own unashamed words. The performances take the form of journal entries, letters, songs, poems, home movies and more. This is the oldest and longest running project of it's kind. You might have seen it featured on This American Life or the Onion AV Club. They recently published a book you should probably check out, too (it's named after a Pat Benetar song… what ELSE do you need to know?)
It takes guts to stand in front of an audience of your peers and celebrate the foolish things we all have in our past. Someday Lounge gives you two chances to see these brave souls share their pain (just like Sybock!) You can get a taste of what's in store with these videos, too.
This is a regular event at Someday Lounge. If you enjoy the show, go home and root around your parent's attic. Maybe you'll find something juicy enough for you to share next time around.
