Seattle’s Natalie Portman’s Shaved Head is one of those bands that, once you hear about, you can’t seem to forget, if only because of their ridiculous V is for Vendetta inspired name (an alias that they created as a team name for a vocabulary contest).
With lyrics like “I picked her up in my Trans, and, baby / We hit the night like a slap in the face” and “Do you like my sideways ponytail? / I do! I do!”, their music is equally as ridiculous. And fun-loving. And super danceable. And unlike some of the other similar 80′s synth-pop/electro/happy-go-lucky indie rock music nowadays, Natalie Portman’s Shaved Head can actually pull it off.

Portland’s own, Marius Libman, better known as Copy, creates “complex compositions that allow him to lord over another space, the one between the stage edge and the back wall. There, his dense and melodic electro beat-frenzies have been ordering Portlanders to dance,” according to Willamette Week, and I concur. Don’t believe us? Watch Copy’s remix of the Fleshtone song, “GFM.” Even if you believe us, you still watch it, even if it’s only to watch Lieutenant Jim Dangle‘s doppelgänger shake his ass.

Hey Champ, hailing from the hometown of Cheap Trick and the older brother on the TV show, “Blossom,” these 3 guys have got some talent and serious capital behind them (they landed a record deal with 1st and 15th Records). They produce danceable, synth-propelled, hook laced songs with an almost cloyingly sweet amount of pop influence.

NY’s Glint has been called the missing link between Mogwai and Portishead. They finished #2 in Lollapalooza Last Band Standing, and were crowned the “Best Independent Act in the Northeast” in Billboard Magazine’s 2007 Independent Music World Series. They are the most mellow of the four bands, with a sound that is less synth/electro/pop and more early David Bowie/Brian Eno/Muse-esque.

Crazy coincidence. The lead singer for NPSH (Shaun Libman) is the brother of Copy (Marius Libman)!!! Now THAT would be a great double bill!
