Sandy Oregon Mountain Festival | July 8-12

Festivals and other large Portland events are non-stop in July. Last week was Blues Festival. This week brings the Mississippi Streetsasquatch Fair, Plunderathon, Bastille Day, and the Sandy Mountain Festival. This might be the only festival with a Sasquatch theme though, and that is the strongest animal in the world according to Dwight Shrute.

The Sasquatch activities start off on July 8, but it really comes together on the 11th and 12th.

From Website:

This years theme is “Sasquatch Celebrates Oregon's Sesquicentennial, Happy 150th Birthday Oregon!

The Sandy Mountain Festival Parade will travel westbound from Revenue Ave. to Bluff Road on Proctor Blvd, instead of on eastbound Pioneer Blvd as it has in past years. The change is being made to provide more room for spectators on the newly-widened sidewalks. Other benefits include: parade watchers won't have to look into the sun, parade marchers can walk downhill, and there will be less disruption to traffic.

Come and enjoy a true hometown parade. Horses, antique cars, floats, marching groups and of course our own 5 generation court and Bear and Mountain Man will all be there. As part of the fun during the Sandy Mountain Festival our traditional parade will be held Thursday, July 9th starting at 7:00pm.

This event draws over 5,000 parade watchers from all over the local area. Many people save there spot for the best viewing days in advanced by staking a spot with lawn chairs, benches, blankets and what ever else they can use. So don't wait until parade time to arrive if you want a good spot for one of the best parades around.

If you are local and would like to participate in this years parade below are links to the Parade Rules and Application. They are both in PDF format and you will need Acrobat Reader to open the files. If you can't open them, you may pick up an application at the Sandy branch of the Clackamas County Bank or by requesting an application by mail.
