From pdxktv
Did you think the bike parties were over just b/c Pedalpalooza and World Naked Bike ride have passed us by? Wrong. The Portland Night Ride is this weekend and looks like a lot of fun after watching that video.

Press Release and Testimonial from Meetin Portland below:
WHEN:
Saturday, July 11, 9:00 PM – 12:00 AM
THE NIGHT RIDE is a fantastically fun (and easy!) 15-mile bicycle ride happening on July 11. The route, starting and ending at the Portland train station, features fire dancers, an outdoor screening of movies from the wildly popular Filmed by Bike festival, a disco party rest stop, mysteries at every turn and well-marked routes with glowing signs. The Last Regiment of Syncopated Drummers kicks off the ride, and Zimba Marimba brings it to a close at the finish line ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT DOUGHNUT FEAST!
There are prizes for the best costumes and decorated bikes (including SKS Germany’s world leading quick release fender combination with a twist – a patriotic red/blue combination!) Also, all 3,000 riders will receive free glow necklaces to ward off vampires along the way.
This great event is a benefit for the Bicycle Transportation Alliance.

This is why I am a big fan of MeetinPortland (aka MiPL). You come across posts like this where they invite you to join them in their fun times:
From Meetin (event info here if you want to hang with them):
Do you have a bike? Do you want to explore Portland at night? Do you HATE competitive sports? Do you have $30 for the Bicycle Transportation Alliance? Then the Night Ride may be for you!
I have been on this ride two years ago, and it was great! This year, they’re offering free glow-in-the-dark face painting and glow necklaces for all riders. They’ll also provide us with route maps at the start. We’ll ride from about dark at 9 PM until 11 or 12 midnight before we call it a night. That includes the movie on the lawn and lots of breaks for snacks, fire jugglers, glow-in-the-dark hula hoopers, a disco party, and other surprises!
The judges will be roaming the start line—but only to look for the very best costumes. We’ll make sure you’re at the start line between 8:15 and 8:45 to be in the running for our awesome prizes, which include free passes to next year’s ride! OK, costumes are optional, but encouraged.
Let’s meet a little ways away from the mob at NW 8th and Glisan (the northeast corner of the park blocks). We’ll stay until 8:15 PM, and then head over to registration at Union Station.
YOU MUST wear a helmet and bring a working headlight. A tail light is also strongly encouraged, as is reflective clothing. But I promise to go slowly and act as sweeper for the group. Here’s a little movie of what to expect:

Because I’m fully employed but always broke.
Because this sounds fun but I’ll never be able to go unless I get free tickets.
Because night riding is awesome!
Because I have writer’s block but am persevering anyway!
Because I love dougnuts!

I like bikes because I don’t have a car and sometimes its too nice to get on the bus. I like the bike culture here, and we bikers need to stay on the roads in numbers to keep new Oregonians mindful of not driving as if they are on the autobahn. Night bike ride seems like a great place to make new bike connections.
Thanks Pipeline!

Just moved to Portland and started riding a bike for the first time in over ten years. Daily trips to my UPS box and around the hood are getting a little tired, I’d love to participate in something like this… seems right up my alley. I pretty much love all of the components involved here. Fire? nighttime? donus? portland? yes.

I love bikes because they are sexy. The people who ride them are sexy and if I win tickets well that would be totally sexy.

My GF lives at Union Station so my bike is already right next to it waiting to go! My mouth is already watering from thinkin about Voodoo Dougnuts; it’s been over a week since I’ve had one! I gotta find a way to go on this thing….
July 9, 2009 at 5:47 pm
I just got a new (1982 Schwinn) I love Voodoo Doughnuts and I love riding at night! Count me in!
July 9, 2009 at 6:07 pm
I’d love to go because I missed all the Pedalpalooza stuff cause my tire was punctured and rent was due. I went to City Bikes today and they fixed me up with a good used tire at a great price and I’m back on the road.
July 9, 2009 at 6:18 pm
Because I have a beautiful bike that wants to go riding in the dark… And I have only recently started riding my bike so what better way to show me the love of the biking community that with free tickets, right?
July 10, 2009 at 3:01 am
I like to ride instead of run to keep in shape and riding a bike is just fun for whatever reason. A night ride with a lot of people would also be cool because I have never been on a group ride. It all sounds like fun.

Missed Connection: You caught my eye and now I can’t get you out of my mind. Me- SWF cyclist. You- S PNR Ticket. Are you still available? My mind is filled with the images of us together Saturday night – the music, the sights, the riding we’ll do, both of us covered in donut crumbs. It could be magic……..
