This week, we asked a question that Don Ortega suggested: Where are the best french fries in Portland? Potato Champion continues to have many fans. Kenny & Zuke’s, Bonfire Lounge & Jade Tea House (Sellwood) also get multiple votes.

The concept of Potato Champ comes very close to the original “baraque a frites” or “friet kot” in Belgium, country of origin and still best place for french fries.

Also want to add that being from Hawaii, I notice that they spell Kilawea wrong (it is actually spelled Kilauea) but maybe they did that for a reason? Could be interesting to find out.

They are good. However, many people still don’t know about them and probably don’t think about them much since they are so tucked away in SE industrial. Also, usually have a good pinball machine in there.

Sweet potato fries @ Holden’s Bistro, as well as Mint/820. Chef Kenny’s fries @ Bluehour. Amazingly salty fries @ Clyde Common!

Elephant’s Deli–perfectly crisp on the outside and soft in the middle, just the right amount of kosher salt, three dipping sauces–fabulous!

Castagna, Castagna, Castagna, Castagna, Castagna, Castagna, Castagna, Castagna…good lord people, how can no one have mentioned Castagna? Crisp, thin, salty, potatoey…I can give or take the burger but I can’t live without a periodic fries fix. (Did I mention Castagna?)

The HobNob Bar & Grille… tasty fries with DELISH dipping sauces (curry ketchup, malt vinegar mayo…). They just opened in February, AWESOME staff, & great prices, go show ‘em some luv!

Michael’s. Why are all those places with soggy fries considered so good? Michael’s fries are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and go perfect with the Chicago Beef sandwiches.

The beer battered fries at Old Market Pub on Multnomah Blvd. are amazing!!!
