Video: Dave Chappelle in Portland, Oregon | Pioneer Square

Dave Chappelle
Pioneer Square
Portland, Oregon
July 14/15 2009

It is a bit dark. I wish I had better video skills, but this is about as close as you could get to Chappelle. This is as he was leaving Pioneer Square.

Luckily, he came through..so there ya go. Unfortunately, he had a speaker so small that no one could really hear him.  Apparently the power needed for sound is cut off at the Square at midnight.

I never heard what he said, but hopefully someone out there has video and pics and can tell us. Email us @ pdxpipeline@gmail with it.

Videos: place them in our Vimeo Portland video group here.

Pictures: Place them in our Portland picture flickr group here.

At least we got to see a half naked chick scale a starbucks! Happy dave honored his crazy ass idea even if the city fucked him on power.

    • Amanda Says:

You blame the city for the lack of sound? Apparently Dave Chappelle can do no wrong in your eyes… the blamelessness of celebrity perhaps?

As far as I can tell, Dave started a rumor which spread rapidly via internet, and when thousands showed up to see if the rumor was true, Dave let them down by appearing late and unprepared.

Lame, but an interesting social experiment nonetheless.

      • Laz Says:

No i wouldnt say he could do no wrong, but it would have only helped to give him some power source so he could have been better at relaying the message he had which was, wow im amazed you all fuckin showed up and get the fuck off those buildings this isnt safe.

it was amazing that he did show up anyway, we put him on the spot big time and he delivered as much as he could, but as for being late and unprepared, it was hell trying to navigate that square as a regular person, i bet it was a daunting idea to get himself and equipment through 6 thousand potentially angry fans (i heard some serious suggestion to riot which made some of the people around me nervous and they left for their safety.)

And it seems pretty pointless on the police perpspective to attempt to shut down such an event, it would not have ended favorably and I applaud Portland Police for their respect of our rights, and peaceful crowd control. Even when people were climbing on the Max stops they didnt disperse or even fine anyone really. they fulfilled their jobs not as nannys, but peace keepers. This doesnt happen in many places.

Dave made a life long memory for me. Dont be such a downer.

  4. Jaimee Says:

Wow, he showed up about 10 minutes after I left. When the crowd started to rock the tent over the stage back and forth and the drunk girl started the flash show I figured it wasn’t gonna happen. After seeing the vids I don’t feel to bad tho.

  5. Shant Says:

Yeah I was about to leave myself after the tent shake and the flashing. I made my way up to the stage and was literally 5 feet away from Chapelle the whole time. He walked right by me when entering the stage and I got to touch him on the shoulder. Even though it was hard to hear, I saw, and touched, the greatest comedian alive. Even if I was far away and didn’t hear a thing, seeing him was worth it.

  6. Cory Says:

Yup one girl had no boobs at all other was fat two thumbs down.

  7. Steven Lenhart Says:

Good times last night! Made it all the way to the front center of the stage with my bro. We could hear everything. Everyone was sort of confused and that added to the Performance Art that was last night. Glad I was a part of it.
