PDX Pop Now, Portland, Oregon

Oh Snap! Hear the Crackle of the PDX Pop Now! Fest! July 24-26

Summer is definitely the season of choice for music festivals. I could list them all on both hands and quickly run out of fingers to count on. Not to mention empty my bank account and go into debt attending all of them. But if there's one collection of music in one venue that you should go to this summer AND you're a broke child of Portland (like many of us are), PDX Pop Now! Fest is for you!

Three days worth of bands playing inside and outside stages at Rotture (rotture.com) in SE for free. Free! Make sure to take a break from The Oregon Brewers Festival (link to pipeline post?) and the Portland Zine Symposium (link to PZS post on pipeline) to come catch some of Portland's best bands!

Just a handful of what I'm looking forward to… Read the rest of this entry »

Portland Trail Blazer Summer League Recap: Rookie Standouts

Needs more Dave Chappelle

Blazer Update

With summer league over, aside from a few Blazers (Greg Oden and Jerryd Bayless) scrimmaging with Team USA next week, we're looking at an uneventful lead up to training camp.

Summer League Boxscores:

Game 1 Blazers 87, Raptors 92
Game 2 Blazers 82, Rockets 87
Game 3 Blazers 93, Nuggets 111
Game 4 Blazers 91, Spurs 74
Game 5 Blazers 73, D-League Select 74

Jerryd Bayless, the only guy on the team that has played NBA basketball, continues to look like more of a shooting guard than a point guard. It's no secret that his focus this summer was on trying to be more of a pass first/pass second/score third guard… but it's now painfully obvious that it's just not there. Ben Golliver of BlazersEdge covered Saturday night's post game interview, where Jerryd decided that his  7 turnovers in 27 minutes should've been attached to somebody else:

Jared Mees & The Grown Children are returning from their summer tour to lovely Stumptown with a show that should definitely cost more than six bucks! Honestly, I can't do much more than tell you to listen to these bands and you will come to this show. And for so cheap! $1 vegan corn dogs at Hungry Tiger Too can wait till next week! A night of dancing and folking like Portland kids should is what this is about.

Story telling and sing-a-long folk, but not in that sappy way. More in a Neutral Milk Hotel/Bob Dylan/folk anthem kind of way. Come sing along! Read the rest of this entry »
