August 12: Where to Watch USA vs Mexico World Cup Qualifier in Portland
August 11, 2009 — Julian ChadwickTomorrow is another big game in USA's march to the World Cup tournament next year in South Africa. The game is being played in the high altitude smoggy metropolis of Mexico City or as Martin Rogers at Yahoo! Sports puts it:
“a concrete version of sporting hell“.
The game starts @ 12:30PM (long work lunch). ESPN has a pre-game at noon. It is on Telemundo for sure, but I can't find which English language channel to view it. For you people looking for a way to watch online, there is always Justin.tv (not-so-legal).
Below, I've made a list of places in Portland where you can watch team USA on its Hades two-step. BOOM. Yahoo! sports just called and offered me a job.
Pipeline Pick: Tanker Bar, 4825 SE Hawthorne
I watched the US play Brazil here and even though that did not turn out as well as hoped, it was a good time & they had a full bar of soccer fans at 11AM on a Sunday. They have some great beers on tap (4 Ninkasi!), Buck Hunter, and if you want to try something new—they also have the largest amount of cans of any bar in Portland (50+).
More after the break..
Beulahland, 118 NE 28th Ave
I watched several of the last World Cup games here including the final in the picture; it was always a great experience. I know that they also rocked the Euro Cup last year as well. Last time I was there, they had a couple TVs in the bar and a large projection screen in the dining area. It is sure to be packed.
North 45, 517 NW 21st Avenue
From North 45:Â North 45 is the local supporter pub for USA Soccer. Don't miss the classic rivalry between the USA vs Mexico Wednesday, Aug 12th.
Some other places likely to carry the game: Kell's, Thirsty Lion, Claudia's, Belmont Inn, etc. Of course, if you are rooting for Mexico…hmmm, someone below suggests Por Que No.

You probably can’t watch the match on August 13… probably only on Aug 12 ;)
Does the Eastbank Saloon broadcast soccer?
