Hip Chicks Do Wine Celebrates Ten Year Anniversary
Portland's Premier Urban Winery Commemorates Milestone with Tasting Party
In honor of their first decade in business, Hip Chicks Do Wine will be hosting one of its signature tasting events on Saturday, August 15th from 6 to 9 p.m. at their Southeast Portland winery and tasting room located at 4510 SE 23rd Ave. This truly hip event will feature wine tasting of 10 Hip Chick wines, appetizers and live music from Carlyle, (eclectic, folk, pop). Entry fee for the event is $10 for non-wine club members.
This landmark event is the perfect opportunity to stop in and sample some of the winery's classic bottles including the delightfully sweet Vin Nombril "Belly Button Wine", the spicy Wine Bunny Rouge or the elegant 2007 Pinot Noir.
History
Around ten years ago not a lot of people were making wine in Portland, let alone in the industrial district of south east Portland. However, Hip Chicks Do Wine owners and winemakers Laurie Lewis and Renee Neely aren't exactly the type to follow the rules. In 1999, the two started Hip Chicks Do Wine with the motto "Serious Wines. Serious Fun." in mind and began creating delicious wines with light-hearted and fun labels. In its first year of production, Hip Chicks Do Wine produced 500 cases. By 2009 this winery located off Holgate in Southeast Portland has grown exponentially to 5000 cases, making them one of the most popular urban boutique wineries in Oregon.
Hip Chicks Do Wine is located at 4510 SE 23rd Ave., Portland, OR., only one mile outside of downtown Portland. Owners and winemakers Laurie Lewis and Renee Neely are dedicated to producing upscale wines in fun and non-pretentious packaging. Current production includes: Drop Dead Red, Wine Bunny Rouge, Riot Girl Rose, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Malbec, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Vin Nombril "Belly Button Wine", Muscat and Pinot Gris; prices range from $14 to $45.
The urban winery tasting room is open daily from 11 a.m.to 6 p.m. For more information, call 503-234-3790 or visit www.hipchicksdowine.com.

I think it would be awesome to celebrate the Hip Chicks and take a hip chick with me. :)

MY GF and I met over wine. We always seem to find new and interesting wines to experience during jaunts around the city. We have every cork ever removed from wines tasted. Will we be able to add Hippie Chicks Ten Year anniversary corks to our collection?

When I left my beloved Oregon to go to college, the vines were maybe 2 years old and the wine sucked. I’m the prodigal daughter, returned but a year ago and ready to taste the progress of the last 18 years.

I love vino and this would be a fantastic opportunity for me to try out Hip Chicks Do Wine.
August 13, 2009 at 10:31
I’ve been wanting to go to this place for awhile. This seems like the perfect opportunity.

August 13, 2009 at 13:33
I’m going to have about six women visiting me from dry, boring Arizona this week. What better place to take them then wine in the Southeast?
August 13, 2009 at 18:15
I’ve heard good things about Hip Chicks Do Wine, but haven’t visited yet. But I do love good wine, especially Oregon Pinots, and have several good friends who enjoy it, too. I’m sure we’d love to attend your event!

I would like to go to try some new wines that I’ve heard rave reviews about and meet fabulous new Portland people!
August 13, 2009 at 21:17
What better reason to go than Hip Chicks and Wine? ;-)
August 14, 2009 at 11:42
Because women do wine better than anyone!
August 14, 2009 at 11:45
There are a couple reasons I would love to go to this!
1. I’m a supertaster (it’s a real thing, you can wikipedia it) and while this is more of a burden than a blessing, wine is a delightful treat for these abundant tastebuds.
2. I just moved to Portland a month ago and want to check out as many new and exciting venues/events/places/people as possible when I’m able! So far I’m loving this city, and I’m sure Hip Chicks and Wine would give me even more reason to.

Sunday is my 25th birthday, and one of my favorite things about Oregon is our incredible vineyards!
August 14, 2009 at 11:57
After these past few months and all the difficulties I’ve been through, I think I deserve some nice wine and atmosphere.
August 14, 2009 at 12:16
I met these chicks several years ago at the Newport Seafood & Wine Festival. Great wine, hip chicks – I think I still have the logo glass that I bought there. Congrats on 10 years!
August 14, 2009 at 12:30
Wine is good, local makes it better, and these ladies are in my ‘hood… I’d love to check them out!
August 14, 2009 at 12:31
I love wine and tried hip chicks at a small shop out in the country and loved it! It would be great to try more of their wines :)
August 14, 2009 at 12:46
I’m trying to get a Tweetup going at this event prior to the Pimps of Joytime gig at the Goodfoot. Nothing goes better with funk than wine! Tweet me if you’re interested @kellyrfeller.

I want to be a hip chick. Perhaps I can achieve hip-chickyness by rubbing shoulders with some bona fide Hip Chicks.

I love everything Hip Chicks means and stands for. How exciting to have the opportunity to celebrate 10 years of cool gals doing great wine for the masses!
August 14, 2009 at 15:31
Wine makes my giddy and hip chick give me boners… I can’t think of a better reason… can you?
August 14, 2009 at 16:58
I don’t live far from HCDW and have always wanted to go there. This would be a great way to kickstart going regularly!
August 14, 2009 at 17:35
I was the only guy to buy tickets for and attend one of their “Ladies Only” night out events last year…and yes I was invited by one of the Hip Chicks. All the ladies were great and none acted offended by my presence. In fact, a great time was had by all. Thank god my name wasn’t drawn for some of the lady specific door prizes. lol This is a great place to sample wines and more. Love the Hip Chicks!!
August 15, 2009 at 00:04
Newly 21 and what a great introduction to the world of legally consumed alcohol in the city that I love and loves me back! A whole new generation of youngsters will be putting money back into the community if only we can get an “in” to this exclusive club of up-and-coming and boutique distilleries and wineries in PDX!!
August 16, 2009 at 13:33
It’s my best friends birthday on Saturday. I love wine and he loves Hip Chicks. This would be a fun way to celebrate and maybe I can get him to better appreciate wine.
August 16, 2009 at 19:36
Well, that party was yesterday. You might want to get your friend a belated birthday card.
August 17, 2009 at 19:37
