Bikes + Beer = Biketoberfest @ Hopworks Brewery | September 19

Posted by Sherri Montgomery

What do you get when Hopworks Brewery offers a full day of celebrating fresh hops & beer, invites some musicians & crazy BMX trick riders, and ask everyone to show up by bike? You get Biketoberfest! Yes, another reason to love Portland!

Hopworks Brewery, in honor of the Mighty Bicycle and in celebration of freshly harvested hops, invites everyone to ride on over, have a beer, toss around a bike or two, watch people do tricks, eat food, listen to music and raise a little money for the Sunday Parkways events. What more could you want to have a great Portland autumn day?

Under the heading of “Races & Mayhem” things kick off at noon and go throughout the day. There's kids bike games, a show & tell of hand-built bikes, BMX trick riders, a Huffy Toss competition (yes, that means throwing a bike), The Sprockettes, Goldsprints Roller Races, and a Bike Shop Challenge Rodeo.

On the music stage the day will start off with a local DJ at noon then move along to Student Loan playing up some bluegrass, turntablist Boy Eats Drum Machine, Chronicle playing some reggae beats, The Ascetic Junkies offering their blend of indie-bluegrass-pop, and the evening will close out the the fabulous March Forth Marching Band doing that wild stuff they do.

While you're enjoying the music, races & mayhem you can also grab a bite to eat and sample the two fresh-hop beers on tap for the event (or check out the organic root beer brewed there).

Hopworks has designated this a car-free event and encourages everyone to bike there.

When:  Saturday, September 19, noon-10PM
Where: Hopworks Brewery 2944 SE Powell Blvd
Admission: Free!

I put a lot of “research” into biking to Hopworks. Here’s a custom Google map that has better ideas than bycycle.org about the last 100 yards to Hopworks.
