This week, some of the world's most brilliant and talented designers will be visiting Portland to unveil their Spring/Summer 2010 collections and celebrate the idea that it is, in fact, easy (and fashionable) being green.
Now in its 6th year, Portland Fashion Week has gained global recognition as “THE fashion week for independent and sustainable designers” – not only because Portland is the ideal setting for any flavor of sustainable event, but because it promotes sustainable design in all aspects of the event. The production team has pulled out all the stops to make the week as sustainable as possible, featuring:
- eco-friendly styling products
- eco-friendly “swag bags”
- all printing on recycled paper
- organic food and refreshments served in biodegradable corn cups
- sustainable furniture and carpeting
- a venue built to LEED Gold certification standards
- a runway made of recycled plastic bottles, staging with sustainably harvested wood and low voltage energy efficient LED lighting.

After-parties to follow each show, hosted at various venues around the city.
WHEN
10.7 -Â “Moving Fashion Designers” (up and coming activewear fashion trends)
10.8 -Â “Emerging Designers” (audience will vote for their favorite emerging designer)
10.9 -Â Designer Collections (PDX + Seattle Designers)
10.10 – Momentum Magazine's “Ready to Roll Fashion Show” + Designer Collections
10.11 – Green + Sustainable Fashion Show (all-sustainable fashion night)
Show seating starts at 8 PM each night, preceded by a 6 PM Reception and Pre-Party. Exception on 10.10 for “Ready to Roll” which is a Matinee Show, running from 3-5 PM.

Portland is really pulling out the stops for GREEN fashion. Sounds like this may be the impetus to start a trend that may carryover to NY, LA and London’s Fashion Weeks. As it turns out I shot behind-the-scenes video for the ROSE SHOWROOM as they exhibited Spring/Summer 2010 Collections for Gina Kim and Rebecca Thompson. I’ll have to check to see if they’re green as well :)
