gviewThis Saturday, bend time and space to travel alongside some amazing female pioneers, political activists and unsung heroes at the Siren Nation Women’s 2009 Film Festival.

The film festival is taking place on the 3rd day of the spectacular 4-day Siren Nation Women’s Art Festival and will showcase 4 female-directed documentaries about 4 extraordinary women.

Prepare to be inspired by these intimate portraits of strong, independent, and courageous women who challenge the status quo and fight for their dreams!

12:00 PM    Pasty Pink: Ahead of the MajorityPresented by the Portland Women’s Film Festival!
The powerful herstory of a Japenese-American trailblazer who challenged superficial racist and sexist conceptions of identity to become one of the most influential actors in U.S. and Oregon political herstory.
1:10 PM      Ferron: Girl on a Road - Portland Premiere!
A chronicle of the herstory of the Canadian folk-musician who pioneered the current female-folk singer/songwriter movement.
2:40 PM      Ridin’ & Rhymin’Award-Winning Film by Local Filmmakers!
A beautiful and entertaining portrait of the extraordinary life of an 81-year-old cowboy poet who lives every day to the fullest. I highly recommend this film; Georgie is a phenomenal woman and her herstory is truly inspiring.

  • 3:50 PM Storm Large Video “Eight Miles Wide”Filmed in Portland! See Storm Large’s “Crazy Enough” anthem on the big screen!
  • 3:55 PM  Left Lane: On the Road with Folk Poet Alix OlsonPortland Premiere! There is nothing like hearing a poet perform her own work! This is the story of a strong and talented artist who uses her gift to create positive change in the world.

The festival runs Noon – 5:30 PM and is being screened at the lovely, historic Hollywood Theatre, located at 4122 NE Sandy Boulevard.
