Valeri LopezThe humble musings of Miss Valeri Lopez settle down on the ear as droplets in Portland’s lake of folk, subtly, yet with a ripple nonetheless. Banjo twanging and guitar strumming softly, Valeri’s meek and soulful voice brings to mind fields and pastures of the wide Midwest despite her being “from Los Angeles of all places.” Between her and just one other band mate, you hear a cornucopia of sound, dabbling toy piano, flute hiding behind keys and organs, and strings plucking away like birds landing on country clouds.
