Portland Saturday Market Kickoff Weekend | New Site, Over 350 Vendors
March 4, 2010 — PDXPIPELINEYou know spring is really close when the Saturday Market kicks off (as well as cherry blossoms). Well, that happens this weekend and they are going to have a party. Also, I didn't know this until now, but if you make a $25 purchase, you receive a free TriMet ticket or a two hour parking validation at any Smart Park garage. Not bad…and of course, don't forget about the good food…mmmmmm
From Press Release:
Join PORTLAND SATURDAY MARKET for the kickoff weekend of the 37th season, March 6th & 7th. The tradition continues with a new look for the Market, under an 8,000-square-foot open-sided pavilion, a cantilevered deck over-looking the river and a circular plaza containing the Legacy Fountain in a beautiful park setting along the waterfront.
The two-day celebration on March 6th & 7th will include:
* 5 Daily give-a-ways of $25.00 gift cards and one grand prize gift basket, which includes four tickets to Portland's Lan Su Chinese Garden at NW 3rd & Everett, a $100.00 gift card, and other fine crafted goodies from the Market!
* The Market's Main Stage will be serving up traditional Irish music all weekend long with the likes of The Fenbi International Superstars (http://www.myspace.com/fenbi)
* The Kid's Corner, featuring Janet Julian teaching children and their families how to create musical instruments out of recycled materials to use during the 2 PM Kid's Parade through the Market both Saturday and Sunday.
* The Market's international Food Court featuring original recipes of local favorites like Jalisco's chicken quesadillas, Taste of Poland's homemade pierogi or Chowder Heads; juicy fish-and-chips basket.
* And, as always, the Market's talented artisans selling their original handcrafted wares.
"The new Portland Saturday Market site in Waterfront Park and Ankeny Plaza has given us the stability we need to remain an anchor in Old Town. The sense of permanence will allow staff and members time to focus on improving programs and daily operations."
-Lisa Gugino, Membership Program Coordinator
About Portland Saturday Market
Portland Saturday Market is the largest arts and crafts market in continuous operation in the United States. It is held every Saturday and Sunday from March through Christmas Eve at SW Ankeny + Naito Parkway. The Market has over 350 vendors who generate about $8 million in gross sales annually and attract over 1 million visitors to the historic Old Town district of Portland each year. All items sold at the Portland Saturday Market are required to be handmade by the person selling it, and a product review committee of members juries each new item against a high standard of quality. The Market is accessible by TriMet's MAX line which stops within the Market at the Skidmore Fountain stop. Make a $25 purchase and receive a free TriMet ticket or a two hour parking validation at any Smart Park garage.
