FILM FESTIVAL CELEBRATES BICYCLE CULTURE

The Eighth Annual Filmed by Bike is a film festival filled entirely with bike-themed movies from around the world. The festival takes place at the Clinton Street Theater, 2516 SE Clinton Street, on April 16-18, 2010.  Love is born, races are completed and stories of two-wheeled adventures cycle across the silver screen in eight minutes or less, the festival's time limit for each film.

The opening night is Friday, April 16th and features the New Belgium Street Party, a Speed Raffle presented by Sock Dreams (13 prizes valued at $30 each are given away in 12 minutes), entertainment and DJs, generous bike parking and a beer garden directly in the middle of Clinton Street.

New this year, the top film, as chosen by the jury, will be awarded the Golden Helmet Award, presented by Nutcase Helmets with a $250 cash prize.  Two runners up will receive gift packs from Nutcase Helmets and Filmed by Bike.

FESTIVAL BACKGROUND

  • Filmed by Bike was started in 2003.
  • 50% of the submissions come form Portland, the rest come from around the world.
  • The festival features an array of film genres including documentary, animation, drama and comedy.
  • The festival only happens in Portland, Oregon though submissions come from around the world.

Always a good time. I bought tickets online for the 11pm show because I have friends coming down from Seattle and they don’t want to miss out on the Opening Night Street Party at all. Should be a good show again this year, from everything I’ve heard.
