Dixie Mattress Closed
3326 Southeast Belmont Street
Portland, OR 97214
Taken on: April 21, 2010
Although it seemed to have been closed for years, it is now official…What do we think is going in there? Bike Shop? Tattoo Shop? Bar? Restaurant? Strip Club?

Not sure what will take Dixie’s place, but a new bar/record store/coffee shop called Hall of Records is going in next door http://portland.daveknows.org/2010/04/06/hall-of-records-is-almost-here/

That place was OPEN all these years?!?!?

Thank God that sketchy, faux mob-storefront is gone. What a waste of real estate for so many years.

I predict another strip club or crappy McMenamins or Lucky Lab brew pub.

I personally am slightly sickened by the judging of this shop and proprietors by the people in this neighborhood. It seems that those that preach diversity and tolerance can be very quick to display the very opposite when it doesn’t fit into ‘their’ paradigm of what society should be.
I do not condone racism, nor do I condone witch hunts.

If you have a racist friend
Now is the time, now is the time
For your friendship to end
Be it your sister, be it your brother
Be it your cousin, or your uncle, or your lover
If you have a racist friend
Now is the time, now is the time
For your friendship to end
Be it your best friend, or any other
Is it your husband, or your father, or your mother
Either change their views
Or change your friends
If you have a racist friend
Now is the time, now is the time
For your friendship to end
So if you know a racist who thinks he is your friend
Now is the time, now is the time
For your friendship to end
Call yourself my friend
Now is the time to make up your mind
Don’t try to pretend

Seriously,
I don’t condone witch hunts either, but what does “Long Live Dixie” and the Confederacy stand for if it is not racism, slavery and treason. And I say that being born and living for many years in Mississippi and much family there. That flag is equal to the Nazi flag.

They always had the oddest things in their display windows… dusty odd trinkets and fake flowers.

finally, now there can be something useful in there.
