Pedalpalooza 2010: Portland Weekend Bike Picks | June 10-13
June 10, 2010 — PDXPIPELINEPortland's Pedalpalooza kicks off today! There are currently over 270 events on the website and probably around a hundred for just this weekend. So, we went through and found 19 that look to be good, well attended, or should be interesting. As always, we'll have our large all-around weekend events list later today on the site.

Thursday Portland Bike/ Pedalpalooza Picks, June 10
- Portland Mercury Bike Issue Release Party @ LaurelThirst Public House 5-7PM; The Portland Mercury's annual bike issue is hitting the streets today, packed with profiles of local cyclists and the whole PedalPalooza calendar. Celebrate the issue release with a drink before heading to the PedalPalooza kickoff ride.
- Pedalpalooza Kickoff Ride @ Laurelhurst Park @ 7PM: Meet by the pond at 7PM (meet at 5 for community potluck). “Ride with us in to the night! Secret ending location. bring costumes, bright lights, dome protectors, and some sass. I want to see feathered hats, glowing underwear, and some dude in a pokadot bath robe.”
- Rooftop Ride @ 10:30PM in rooftop bar or in front of hotel @ 11 @ Departure/ The Nines Hotel; Ride around town with other urban explorers and see some new perspectives on p-town – from above! Bring your sense of adventure. Acrophobes (those with an acute fear of heights) will not dig it. However, it's all safe enough – as long as you are relatively sober. No money required, unless you wanna get something at Departure before we leave.

Friday Portland Bike/ Pedalpalooza Picks, June 11
- Bike Porn 4 Play @ Clinton Street Theater 7:00pm – 9:00pm;Â Bikes and Sex. The connections between this once seemingly disparate ideas is shown in a program of short movies from various artists. There are no DVDs for sale, the only place to watch it is in the theater. Fetishism, eroticism, drenching your shammyism… $6, +18 (Related: Portland Underground Film Festival @ Clinton Street Theater)
- Third Annual Bowie vs Prince Mobile Dance Party @ 8PM: Meet @ 8PM @ Barely Worn Resale Store, (SW conner of 50th and Division, across from North bar); Bicycle Dance Party on Wheels! Loud stereo system & my favorite 80's dance music. Come dressed as your favorite 80's Pop Star & we'll cruise & dance at locations all over town. Slow pace with frequent dancin' stops. Come early and shop for those last minute accessories for your outfit Benefit Ride for At-Risk Youth
- Tour De Raunch @ 8PM: Meet at Colonel Summers Park @ 8PM, depart 8:30; We'll plan on going until midnight, longer if the crowd is enthusiastic. Join us for the Tour de Raunch! We're taking a bicycle tour of some of Portland's finest venues of, err, umm, “Exotic Dancing”! Bike lights necessary! 21 and older! Be sure to bring photo ID! Bring ample tuckin' bucks!
- Midnight Mystery Ride @ 11PM @ unknown location in SE PDX; we will leave from SE portland. Â exact location to be posted at midnightmysteryride.wordpress.com on the day of the ride. Â ride meets at a bar. Â bring yer lights. Â at midnight, we ride. Team Midnight, midnightmysteryridePDX@gmal.com

Saturday Portland Bike/ Pedalpalooza Picks, June 12
- Eat Donuts To Curb Hunger Benefit Ride 10:30AM-Noon: @ DaVinci School Playground (2508 Northeast Everett Street, neer the dragon) Try some of the best donuts in town, and feel good about it. Bring cash – each shop will have a special, $5 donut for sale. Proceeds from the $5 donut go to St Francis Dining Hall. Â Other donuts will be regular price, and will benefit your friendly local donut shop.
- Cirque du Cycling Bike Street Fair on Mississippi 12:00pm – 8:00pm, Cirque du Cycling, presented by Laughing Planet Cafe, is a street festival, a circus, a bike race and a parade – and a benefit for Albina Youth Opportunity School. Two beer gardens, COMPLETELY FREE EVENT, and more.
- Girly Bike Ride @ 2PM: Meet @ Saturday Market, River Front Park @ 2PM; Decorate your bicycle with girly stuff and let's go on a mellow bike ride through the River Park and Downtown. This will be a short slow bike ride for beginner or intermediate riders. This bike ride is intended for women, but men and children are welcome too if you will decorate your bike with flowers ribbons & baskets too.
- Stumptown Joustdown IV: Colonel Summers Park (2PM – ?); Who will earn the title of Portland's Best Bike Jouster? Â Maybe you? Â Come and join other two-wheeled warriors at the Fourth Annual Stumptown Joustdown!! Â It's like the Pro-Wresting of the bike world!! Â (Spandex and steroids optional)
- Star Wars vs Star Trek Ride @ 7PM – ? @ OMSI; Time to choose sides. Do you think Han Solo can kick Kirk's ass? Would Spock take down Yoda? Time to get your light sabres or tricorders and dress up for some serious nerd quotient. Decorate yourselves and/or your bikes and battle it out on the streets of Portland, the skies over Endor, and wherever else the ride takes us. Sound systems invited, kids welcome for the early part of the ride, but later on, the silliness may get too much for them. This ride is free, but we understand Starfleet Academy might assess penalties.
Sunday Portland Bike/ Pedalpalooza Picks, June 12
- PDX Bridges I 8:15 – 10:45: Meet Under the West end of the Freemont Bridge; We'll be visiting Ten Portland Bridges. I will tell you something about the history of them and what makes them  unique. Ride from the Fremont to the Sellwood bridge and back. The ride finishes at Waterfront Park
- Vegan Baked Goods Bike Ride @ 11AM; 3039 NE Alberta (Dovetail Bakery); At least 6 purveyors of sweet and savory vegan goodness, over 6 miles and well over 600 calories… Join us as we eat our way through baked vegan delights on a bike ride from Alberta to Sellwood. Bring enough money to cover whatever delicacies catch your eye.
- Little Lebowski Urban Achievers Ride 11AM-4ish: the dude abides, even in the summer of 2010! we'll start the morning by fixing the condition our condition is in (bring a canteen of white russian or some sarsaparilla or a home-rolled and we'll see whose is the most abiding!) in the park then we'll roll around 11:45, in costume, to the site of a reading of _the_two_gentlemen_of_lebowski_ (movie script rewritten in shakesperean english) being staged by a nifty troupe. the ride will be shortish, and the performance is at 1pm and lasts ~3hours.  bring a blanket!
- Splash Dance 5, 2PM-?: Meet @ Salmon Street Springs Fountain, SW Naito Pkwy & Salmon St; We'll ride until the music box runs out of juice! Bikes, water, and shaking your booty! Â We'll ride, dance, and splash in water fountains all over town with our sound system in tow! Dress for a dance party – a wet one! Â Squirt guns encouraged.
- Bike Polo 2PM: Alberta Park, NE 20th Ave and Killingsworth St; Bike Polo has been played nearly every Sunday at Alberta Park for over five years. Great for spectators this bike polo is rated PG-13 for profanity, violence, sexuality and gratuitous fun. Mallets and heckling provided. Bring your own beater bike or ride one of ours.
- Sunset Mystery Ride 7:30PM; Meet @ Irving Park, NE 7th Ave & Irving Park Path(between the tennis courts, bathrooms and play structure); Come ride to a mystery destination and watch the sunset.
Be prepared to relax at our end point! - ZOOBOMB 8:30PM-2:30AM; Meet @ Zoobomb Monument on West Burnside & 13; Zoobomb is a near 7 year running weekly bike event that meets every Sunday around 8:30PM near American Apparel (13th & Â SW Burnside) in Portland OR. Bring a bike, MAX fare, bike lights, and any safety gear you need. Its a good time and you WILL have fun! MINI BIKES ENCOURAGED – ALL BIKES WELCOME, HELMETS ARE A GOOD IDEA , * RIDE AT YOUR OWN RISK * , LEAVE NO TRACE
