From our partners at Oregon Zoo:

Femi Kuti at Oregon ZooFemi Kuti, the oldest son of legendary Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, grew up in Lagos, Nigeria, home base for his father's powerful blend of funk, jazz and heavy percussion.

While a natural heir to his father's musical legacy, he also draws on elements of dance music and hip-hop — collaborating with the likes of he has Macy Gray, Mos Def and Common — to create a modern Afrobeat style entirely his own. He's always sold out in the past, so get your tickets FAST.

Femi puts on an amazing show! Beng, Beng, Beng! He played this last time I saw him at the zoo, to the dismay of many a parent with their little one in the audience. I guess they didn’t know about stage humping ;) That’s why I want to go!!

Femi Kuti at the Oregon Zoo sounds like the perfect way to enjoy a date night with my sweet husband.
He has been away from home for three weeks on a business trip. He has enjoyed listening to old Fela and his eldest son the amazing Femi Kuti of Nigeria.
An open air theatre showcasing the raw passion of Afro Beat set in amongst the world’s wild animals will be a night to brag about for years to come!

  13. Blanca Villalobos June 30, 2010 at 23:19 #

This would be a great way to celebrate summer and have that much needed date night. Femi Kuti is legendary.

  21. Paola July 1, 2010 at 14:21 #

Hey! I just love Femi Kuti but never saw him on stage! I am from Sicily (100% sicilian) and grew up with the afrobeat since Africa was my neighbor! Now I live in Portland and couldn’t believe of what I was reading…Femi Kuti in P-town?!? This is a dream come true! Hope to win the tickets! =)

We’ve had such a wonderful time at zoo concerts in the past! This year we chose to see Jamie Cullum (can’t wait), but Femi Kuti was a close second choice. Would love love love to see him too!

  35. Leonard July 2, 2010 at 08:21 #

I”ve seen Femi Kuti 3 times, and every show was easily my year’s favorite. And the Zoo is my favorite summer venue. What a perfect combo!

  36. Angela July 2, 2010 at 09:06 #

Because I missed him last year!!!! :)

  37. allisunknown July 2, 2010 at 10:04 #

    Me! Me! Me!

I’m a huge Afrobeat fan, huge fan of both the Kutis (I even wrote a poem about his dad; it’s called “Olufela Olusegun Oludotun Ransome-Kuti”). Never been to the Oregon Zoo, and neither has my lady, never been to any Afrobeat concerts in my life, and after all this dreary weather I’m in need of a serious pick-me-up!!! And Femi sounds like just the thing!

    Happy Friday everyone!

Would love to experience the wonderful sounds of Femi and his band! At the same time being a part of an attraction that helps support the Oregon Zoo and its commitment to the conservation of endangered species. Much respect for both musician and venue.

Thanks for giving us a chance to win this. Good luck to others! Have a great holiday~

  39. Nessa B July 2, 2010 at 15:58 #

Bottle of wine, Afrobeats jammin in my ear, a breeze thru the warm summer air…Perfect excuse to spend an eve with a friend, in the company of nature, animals, culture, and music.

  40. Damon A July 4, 2010 at 01:06 #

I think nothing but Femi in the zoo could better rekindle the flame between me and my wife.

    • Julian Chadwick July 4, 2010 at 12:54 #

  41. Flo Montero July 8, 2010 at 19:29 #
