Description
The 34th annual Baxter Auto Parts Portland Historic Races features an annual entry list of more than 250 prestigious historic race cars, all of which have been restored to the way they were when they originally raced decades ago. The cars are divided into groups according to make, age and horsepower, then raced at high speeds to their full potential, delighting enthusiasts just as they did in their heyday.
This year’s event will celebrate 100 year of Alfa Romeo, a marque whose enduring presence in auto racing has inspired professional drivers, as well as individuals who have never visited a racetrack. Throughout its rich history, Alfa Romeo models have carried hundreds of champions to victory over the finish line. The event will host a race group comprised solely of Alfa Romeos.
The Portland Historic Races features an open paddock, allowing fans the opportunity to walk right up to the cars, some of which are the most historic and valuable sports and racing cars in the world. The family friendly event also presents a display of more than 700 collector cars and hot rods, the Fred Meyer Food and Wine Pavilion, a kid zone, an autocross and a vendor midway.
The event is a fundraiser for the Community Transitional School, a Portland-based organization that provides important educational services to children who are homeless or otherwise at risk of school failure.

My parents are coming to town this weekend and I want to provide my Dad with cool things to do too – not just following my Mom around to countless antique stores and Nordstrom’s. He and I both LOVE vintage vehicles and we would have a great time together at this event. Mom- not so much. But she can do HER thing, and we’ll do OURS. No harm in that!

I like classic cars. Being able to watch them race would be amazing!

Friends from Switzerland are coming to town this weekend. I just know they would love to see historic American cars racing. What fun that would be. And I know the guy is a car freak and so is my husband.

I want to win this for my boyfriend. He does so much for me and my family. I’m truly lucky to have him! He used to drive a corvair in high school and has worked on cars since he was 10. He’d love going to this event.

I currently have family coming in town TOO from California, my brother bought a porsche and has been taking it on the tracks. Two tickets for him and my hubby would be Fantastic. I can keep my brother’s wife in the cool mall while they are drooling on the racetrack. Now I hope I win, it would be CAPITAL;)

I have family coming into town for a boring wedding on Sunday. My brother bought a porsche a few years back and has been taking it to the track down in LA. He and my husband would enjoy watching these classic racecars, while I spend time shopping with my sister-in-law! Now that would be classic! I hope WE win. If not, whoever does will have a rocking time at the races.

Nothing so exciting as friends from Switzerland or a boring wedding to run from… just a native Portlander who has never been and always thought it would be fun.
July 9, 2010 at 12:17
My buddy used to do late-night drag racing out there until he was arrested for things I cannot share. It’d be awesome to take him back and see some history. Do they have elephant ears?
July 9, 2010 at 12:21
Because summer’s finally here and there’s nothing for it like carefully refurbishing our derby hats and spending the weekend drinking lemonade and beer at the racetrack– and I’d so love to see all the beautiful Alfa Romeos!
July 9, 2010 at 12:21
