Portland Tour de Coops This Saturday | Mayor Adams’ Coop & 24 More

People often say that Portland has the most vibrant urban chicken coop scene in the country. It’s hard to disagree when our own mayor has one. You can view his and 24 others this coming Saturday for the 7th annual Tour de Coops. Related: Our Portland Events List

From Press Release:

Tour de Coops
7th annual chicken coop tour
presented by Growing Gardens
Saturday, July 24 – 11am-3pm

Tour de Coops is a fun and affordable community event for you, your whole family and all your friends!  Chicken owners throughout Portland will open their yards so you can see their coops and meet their chickens during this self-guided tour. You’ll have the opportunity to visit 25 backyard chicken coops all over East Portland, including Mayor Sam Adams coop. Coops are clustered to encourage biking and walking.

Enter the raffle to win one of two coops (made by The Garden Coop and ModernCoop.com), chicken feed and gift certificates donated by local nurseries and feed stores!

Booklets are $15 and include coop photos, descriptions, maps and suggested biking/walking routes. Booklets will go on sale with raffle tickets starting July 17th through July 23rd at: Concentrates Inc, Naomi’s Organic Farm Supply, People’s Coop, Urban Farm Store, Garden Fever, Livingscape Nursery and Hollywood Whole Foods Market.

On July 24th, we’ll have booklets, T-shirts and raffle tickets for sale in the parking lot at Westminster Presbyterian Church at 1624 NE Hancock — also joining us is the Burgerville Nomad!  They will be serving fresh, cage-free egg sandwiches and other breakfast goodies from 10 to noon.  10% of the Nomad’s sales will benefit Growing Gardens.

    Hi-
I would love to win a Tour de Coops booklet so both of us can get a chance to see all of the amazing chicken coops this year’s tour has to offer. We live in SE Portland, have 6 chickens & 4 Indian Runner ducks. They keep us really busy, so it would be fantastic to have the opportunity to see what other chicken fans are up to.

Thanks! And Happy Tour de Coop 2010`
    Suzanne
