Panda Bear, so I can finally have a reason to wear my homemade paper mache panda head.
August 31, 2010 at 12:33
you know who I’d like to see? Major Lazer, that’d be nice.
August 31, 2010 at 12:36
Menamena bop beeee bedeeebeeee bedeeebeee bedeeebee bedeeebeedeebedeee dee deeeeeee dee
Because they are amazing LIVE!
August 31, 2010 at 12:37
The National, oh the National. They’ve been my personal soundtrack for months now. “Boxer”, especially, has helped me through these last shitty 16 months of unemployment. To stand in our beautiful Pioneer Courthouse Square and listen to that music would be a perfect way to escape the I-Can’t-Get-A-Job-To-Save-My-Life blahs.
August 31, 2010 at 12:38
MAJOR LAZOR!!! Cause I want to rock my shit Pon De Floor and treat womens’ asses like turntables.
August 31, 2010 at 12:40
I want to see Wiz Khalifa soooo bad. I didn’t get to see him when he came to North Carolina when I was there and now the Portland show is sold out…
August 31, 2010 at 12:44
And Grieves! I did see him in North Carolina when opening for Atmosphere, awesome show. I can’t wait to see him again.
August 31, 2010 at 12:45
Seeing Rocky Votolato and David Bazan would be *really* awesome. So would seeing The Decemberists, The Walkmen, AND The National?! SO MANY THEs!!!!
August 31, 2010 at 12:45
The National…because they are one of my fiance’s favorite bands and would love to surprise him with tickets!
August 31, 2010 at 12:48
Smashing pumpkins. Almost every mix I have includes them.
Also, I’m really looking forward to finding new music, been over a year since I’ve been to a live show.
August 31, 2010 at 12:50
Menomena!!! And maybe Smashing Pumpkins… but Menomena!!
August 31, 2010 at 12:50
Panda Bear, Jeff the Brotherhood, Major Lazer, and the Smashing Pumpkins. WHY? I wassn’t born in time to see the full band rock out with Billy Corgan, Major Lazer will probably be the sweatiest show I will have to endure (with pleasure), the two brothers from Jeff know how to play some damn good rock from Nashville, and Panda Bear…I don’t have enough space on here to show my love for that man.
August 31, 2010 at 12:51
Smashing Pumpkins–when my sister & I started liking music & we’d like to celebrate this weekend–she just got a job as a TEACHER!!
Menomena–nuff’ said.
PLEASssssssssssssse.
August 31, 2010 at 12:51
I’m stoked to see many of the bands listed. The National is a big one. I love that band, have since their first record, and they hold a lot of sentiment for me.
Okkervil River for similar reasons. Ted Leo & The Pharmacists because I have never, ever, been successful in trying to catch one of their shows. They love to play the same nigh as other great bands or night’s I’m working.
Laura Viers because she’s talented and can play a kick-ass banjo.
I could go on… and you could give me the tickets…
August 31, 2010 at 12:51
The Tallest Man on Earth because he was so incredible at Sasquatch!
August 31, 2010 at 12:52
The Thermals of course, because they are the dogs bollocks.
August 31, 2010 at 12:52
Big Freedia & Majahhhh Lazaahhh! These are ‘the’ two acts that will crush the crowd with their wild high NRG on the stage and dance floor. I badly want into the show to hear those bass bins bang and get down with all the booty bumpers who come out for this kinda show. I hope everyone gets an earful of this music.
August 31, 2010 at 12:54
Menomena and Smashing Pumpkins because they rock shit
August 31, 2010 at 12:58
im looking forward to seeing Death By Stereo, not a fan of their music, but an old friend is with the band and i have not seen them in years.
August 31, 2010 at 12:59
1.Major Lazer (because they send me into convulsions) 2. Panda Bear (becuase Merriweather Post Pavilion was the best album of ’09, and I’m interested on what he sounds like alone)
August 31, 2010 at 13:04
The National – because my best friend and her boyfriend just broke up, and it’s her favorite band, so I’d like to take her to cheer her up.
August 31, 2010 at 13:04
The Dodos so I can croon along to “Undeclared” and Helio Sequence for the drummer who sort of reminds me of Ren and Stimpy (yes, both characters).
August 31, 2010 at 13:06
the decemberists because it is september. and they kix
August 31, 2010 at 13:08
the national – just because they are my most favorite band. ever. really.
August 31, 2010 at 13:20
Sleep. They broke up. What fan would not want to see them actually play Holy Mountain? What are the chances that they’d actually be in the Northwest again? I say very slim. Seeing this show would be the highlight of my year, considering I’ve had a rather craptastic one thus far.
August 31, 2010 at 13:20
I would do anything (just short of killing someone) to score a wristband! I am a music whore, and I have the weekend off work… It’s just meant to be!
Here is who I want to see, and why…
Panda Bear – They are a perfectly chill way to start MFNW
Major Lazer – Diplo and Switch… I don’t think I even need to explain why
The Black Lips – Because they are raw, loud and in your face rock!
Y La Bamba – Because I haven’t seen Elena in years, and their music is kick ass!
The Gories – Come on… Legendary garage rock
Smashing Pumpkins, The Decemberists, Helio Sequence, The National!!!!
August 31, 2010 at 13:28
If anybody is having trouble thinking of a reason to go see the Smashing Pumpkins, you need to re-evaluate life.
August 31, 2010 at 13:32
I’m dying to get into the Smashing Pumpkins show. They’ve been my favorite band since I was like 10 years old and I’ve never been able to see them live. I’d love to get hooked up with a wrist band.
August 31, 2010 at 13:39
Ok. So maybe I post on here ALL the time to get free tickets and stuff, but if I were to win just one set of tickets from you this would be AWESOME. I would LOVE to see
The National: havent seen them yet and thats not ok.
The Decemberist: saw them when they were a small opening band way back when no one knew who they were and have been hooked since)
The Thermals: have only heard good things about them
do I have to go on?? All I have to say is there is more then just a few bands I want to see!
August 31, 2010 at 13:41
The Alialujah Choir (my sweet friend Alia), Major Lazer, Surfer Blood, The Zeros (Mexican Ramones?), People Under The Stairs or Sleep (haven’t decided which one yet since they are both at the same time), Smashing Pumpkins (nostalgia), Shabazz Palaces (loves me some hip hop)
August 31, 2010 at 13:50
Sleep performing Holy Mountain just seems absurd. How does that kind of show happen? I guess music festivals make anything possible.
August 31, 2010 at 13:57
The Builders and The Butchers, because we went to their show at Mississippi Studios for new years eve and they were amazing! Super rad guys! Smashing Pumpkins, for nostalgia reasons. Thanks!
August 31, 2010 at 14:21
There are an assload of bands I want to see on at MusicFest NW. You don’t want to read the why of all of them, so here’s two.
Smashing Pumpkins because I haven’t seen them live since before Billy Corgan shaved his head and had a misguided relationship with batshit insane Courtney Love.
Menomena for many reasons, including their many shows with John Vanderslice, the general awesomeness of almost anyone on Barsuk Records, and for the line “All those opposed can rot in hell.”
August 31, 2010 at 14:41
Laura Viers is so ethereal AND spunky. Best combination. And the Decemberists in Pioneer Square. Portland to the 9th degree. Rocked out big time last year at MFNW -You wont’ regret giving me the wristband that much I can promise.
August 31, 2010 at 14:45
Im really looking forward to all the local folks (Menomena, The Thermals, Helio Sequence, Sallie Ford, Decemberists) for total incestuous Portland love. Justin Townes Earl is a legend who isnt a legend yet, so Im pretty excited for him. Also, the children’s variety show with The Thermals might be the most endearing idea Ive ever heard, so that one as well.
August 31, 2010 at 15:08
Major Lazer – because I wanna see a dude jump from a ladder to hump another dancer
August 31, 2010 at 15:50
SMASHING PUMPKINS!!!!!!!!
MY FAV BAND IN MIDDLE SCHOOL I’VE NEVER ROCKED OUT SO HARD (YES, ALL CAPS WORTHY)
I’d love to see Talkdemonic, Ra Ra Riot, Laura Veirs, Thee Oh See’s, The Tallest Man on Earth, DEATH BY STEREO (LOL oh my god wtf), The Black Lips, and Washed Out… Mazor Lazer would probably be pretty magical, and all the portland crew bands like the thermals and decemberists
hellyea

To see a band like the Smashing Pumpkins at a venue like the Wonder Ballroom….makes my head spin with joy! Two great tastes that taste great together! Please hook me up with a wristband pass!!!
August 31, 2010 at 16:09
BIG Freeedia!!!! So I can bounce my booty. New Orleans too far to go to see her.
Oh and the National cause they rock.
Smashing pumpkins.. Cause I miss them.
Mosley Wotta- cause he’s so cute and his music rocks.
August 31, 2010 at 16:10
Besides the obvious blow-out performance the Decemberists will put on, and the sweet Laura Veirs, I would be most excited to see David Bazan. There just isn’t anyone else who comes to mind that is quite like him. I’ve been listening to him for years, and unfortunately have never seen him live. I’m sure it will be an incredible show, especially with a full backing band. I’m currently unemployed like so many others here in this great city. Any chance to see some or all of NFMW would be good for the spirit. Music makes life all the better!
August 31, 2010 at 18:07
okkervil river- they will have the cowd singing every word
menomena- dancing all over the crystal ballroom
the Tender loving empire showcase-every band on the label is great
boat- fun band
the national in pioneer square? are you kidding me!!!!!!!!!!
mfnw always makes every show epic!
would love to go
August 31, 2010 at 18:33
I would LOVE to see Wiz Khalifa because he’s amazing and I love his music.
Thanks!(:
-Danielle
August 31, 2010 at 18:41
Major Lazer, Smashing Pumpkins, The National…
would love to be able to see just one even! Live! Swoon~
p.s. I have a friend visiting from Tokyo, planning to relocate to the States…need help convincing her why Portland is so great! This just tops it off and might be just the thing! I ♥ MFNW ~ PDX ~ the NW!
August 31, 2010 at 19:34
okkervil river, because i was too drunk to enjoy them at sasquatch yet i wasn’t too drunk to order a jalepeno sandwich from subway and burn all the feeling from my anus the next morning

I’m dying to see The Tallest Man On Earth & Mynabirds (and many others). Fingers crossed!
September 1, 2010 at 08:30
I’m in a tizzy over bands playing at the same time I want to see. Sleep + menomena+ Portland Cello Project, will require a decision! The Dodos or Crooked Fingers will require a decision. At least Sunday is easy, Talkdemonic and the National on the same day would be incredibly fun.
September 1, 2010 at 08:31
Would love, love, love to go see The Builders & The Butchers! I’ve been hooked since I saw them play with Portland Cello Project a few years ago and they just keep getting better.
And of course The Decemberists (haven’t seen live since 2005), The National, The Thermals, and…
September 1, 2010 at 09:23
Walkmen! The National! Panda Bear! Black Lips, Guidance Counselor, Morning Teleportation, Menomena, Helio Sequence, and many many more.. must save pennies.. wrist band win would rock my socks off! Already took these days off from work.. just need the tools to make it happen! GREAT contest.. crossing fingers! Holding breath.. hurry sept 6th, I’m turning blue!
September 1, 2010 at 12:32
Ok, ok… Firstly, The Gories on Sat.! I’ve been a huge fan since the 90′s. They are quintessential sleezy garage rock at it’s best! Nextly, Thee Oh Sees on Friday!! Not quite as long in the tooth – but they still have a nice bite. I can’t wait!! Winning tix would be huge as I’m unemployed right now.
Woo-hoo!!!
September 1, 2010 at 14:50
Major Lazer!!! I hear their live shows are amazing, and I would love to see them!
September 1, 2010 at 20:59
Winning wristbands would be awesome, me and my friend are so excited to see Major Lazer, Pon de Floor has been on repeat at my house for a while, and how could I not be excited for Menomena, their new album Mines rules. I want this so badly, and I can’t afford to go otherwise, and The Helio Sequence plus the Nationals, I can’t beleive I have the chance to see them, can you guys hep make it a reality!
(sorry i listed 4, i can have that list go on for a lot more)
September 2, 2010 at 11:30
Akron/Family, The Dodos, and Japandroids! It’ll be so nice to see the bands that I’ve been following but never seen the live shows.
September 2, 2010 at 12:21
Where do I start? This year’s lineup is incredible! Let’s go in chronological order:
Wednesday it has to be Panda Bear – I got hooked on Animal Collective last year with their crazy live show at the Roseland and would love to check out what he’s doing solo.
Thursday: A bit of a toss up between Ted Leo and the Pharmacists and Ra Ra Riot with the tiebreaker going to Ra Ra Riot as I’ve been into them for a while and missed their last Portland show.
Friday: Without a doubt the one show I would go to if I could only see one show this weekend – The Tallest Man on Earth with The Cave Singers opening at the Doug Fir. Heard TTME put on an amazing show at the Mission earlier this year and his style of Dylan inspired folk couldn’t find a better stage than the Doug Fir and saw The Cave Singers get the crowd stomping when they opened for Dr. Dog at the Wonderland last year – would love to see them again in a more intimate setting.
Saturday: I’d double dip with The Decemberists and then Menomena at the Crystal. I’ve seen the Decemberists a few times but they are so good I wouldn’t miss the chance to see them again and just discovered Menomena recently – Mines is fantastic as is their last album – would be epic to wrap up MFNW watching them tear up the Crystal with 1000+ other hometown fans.
Needless to say, I’d be ecstatic to win these tix. Would have purchased a pair long ago if I wasn’t a broke grad student…
September 2, 2010 at 12:35
I can’t think of a better way to spend my birthday than donning my angst-scribbled Doc Martens from 8th grade and going to see the Smashing Pumpkins again.
September 2, 2010 at 12:52
The Dodo’s, Panda Bear, The Cave Singers… All of them! Me and my boyfriend just moved to Portland and I want to take him to see this for our 2 1/2 year anniversary. Music runs through his veins, he has been taking about going but we cant afford it. This would be perfect.
September 2, 2010 at 13:04
All the amazing music and Pumpkins for desert,BRING IT ON!
September 2, 2010 at 13:08
OHHH I HAVE NEVER GONE _ WOULD LOVE IT
September 2, 2010 at 13:12
Okkervil River of course would be AWESOME
September 2, 2010 at 13:19
I want to see The National! Menomena! Typhoon!
I’m poor!
September 2, 2010 at 13:29
I am super stoked to see Major Lazer, and Okkervil River, but I absolutely NEED to see Smashing Pumpkins…and they are SOLD OUT!!!
September 2, 2010 at 13:31
Panda Bear would be pretty cool to see!
September 2, 2010 at 13:44
smashing pumpkins because i want to relive my high school days!
September 2, 2010 at 13:44
I would love to see major lazer and lazer sword. I guess I just have a thing for getting freaky in the atmosphere of lazer themed musical artists. Don’t judge! :) haha. Seriously though, this is going to be my last hurrah before school starts and I would really appreciate the opportunity to catch some good beats while the gettins good. Thanks!
September 2, 2010 at 13:56
The Decemberists- cause now that I live in Portland, I am embarrassed to not have seen them. Smashing Pumpkins- because Rhinocerous was the first non-radio fave song I ever had. So so so many others!
September 2, 2010 at 14:00
I’d love to witness the ridiculousness of major lazer live!
September 2, 2010 at 14:16
I would love to win wristbands for MFNW because I have never seen Titus Andronicus live and I love his music as I have been recently exposed to it. I would also very much enjoy the opportuniity to see The Decemberists again. Their music just speaks to me in ways that no other band does. I don’t have the money for wristbands this year and I would hate that to stop me from seeing so many awsome bands live.
Cheers!
September 2, 2010 at 14:50
I will be totally and completely dedicated to enjoying the fullness of the MFNW experience-by making my my way to any and every show this little wristband will get me into
At the top of my list-
Black Prairie
Y La Bamba
Laura Veirs
The National
Okkervil River
The Tallest Man on Earth
Major Lazer
Wiz Khalifa
Titus Andronicus
The Builders and the Butchers
SERIOUSLY! I will stand in any line, I will eat nothing but food from convenience stores or go without meals all together, I will go long periods of time without sleep, or a change of clothes, I will forget my worldly responsibilities, I will not stop going to shows until it’s over!
September 2, 2010 at 14:53
Would love to see Sleep. They’ve been a summer staple around my house, relaxing in the sunny backyard. Would love to hear them play Holy Mountain in its entirety!
September 2, 2010 at 15:35
I got too much dancing bottled up in me, I gotsta see the Walkmen!
September 2, 2010 at 15:36
the walkmen and the national!
September 2, 2010 at 15:39
WIZ KHALIFA! ’cause he spits rhymes like he’s got a mouth full-a loose teeth
September 2, 2010 at 15:43
Sleep performing HOLY MOUNTAIN. I need some more Matt Pike in my life!
September 2, 2010 at 15:44
I would love to win wristbands…so many choices and places I want to go that I can’t choose just one! I’m dying to see ManMan, as much for the people watching as the music, the National because they’re the National, PCP cause I’d like to join them one day, Panda Bear, The Thermals, Menomena because I’ve loved the music for ages, but have never been to one of their shows. The list goes on, but I’ll spare ya :-)
September 2, 2010 at 15:44
So many awesome bands! The National, Japandroids, Smashing Pumpkins, Major Lazer, Ra Ra Riot…I could go on. *fingers crossed*
September 2, 2010 at 15:49
I want to see Black Lips, first and foremost because individual tickets are not available for that show, I can’t afford the full shebang wristband and they are one of my favorite bands that I’ve never gotten to see. In fact, I can’t afford to go to any of the MFNW shows unless I win these tickets.
I also want to see The Walkmen because they are the soundtrack to my life in my home town that I just moved from a year and a half ago, The Dodos because they put on a magical performance that blows your mind and I’d LOVE to experience that again, Shonen Knife because I’ve loved them for going on 20 years and never thought I’d get the chance to see them, Thee Oh sees because I have never had as much fun watching a band as I did when I saw them a few years ago and I’d die to do it again and I’ll be working during their free daytime show, And And And because who wouldn’t want to see such a great band in a small intimate environment like Backspace, Jeff The Brotherhood because they are yet another band that I adore but have never gotten the chance to see and also, any other band that might be wonderful that I don’t already know about.
September 2, 2010 at 15:51
finally! will be in town for this event – want to see as many as possible.
September 2, 2010 at 15:55
The Thermals because they live across the street from me and practice loud. Sallie Ford because one of her band members’ was my student in high school. The Decemberists because they rock. Portland Cello Project because they make me happy.
September 2, 2010 at 15:56
Bands I would like to see: japandroids, builders and the butchers, titus andronicus, menamena, shally ford and the sound outside, panda bear, surfer blood, deelay ceelay, portland cello project, wampire, the national, the walkmen, major lazor. I want to see them all and be drunk on live music. Drunk as a skunk.
September 2, 2010 at 16:08
I wanna see Smashing Pumpkins!
September 2, 2010 at 16:14
Panda Bear. Because I love Noah!
And Major Lazer for obvious reasons.
September 2, 2010 at 16:18
I need to see Sleep like I need a long, slow, deep hump session. I imagine that it will glittered rainbows shooting out of my vagina.
September 2, 2010 at 16:21
It’s been 20 years since my mind was warped by the words “This here’s the Gories from Detroit, hot off the press. It’s gonna jump on you baby and its gonna stain your dressâ€ÂÂ. as far as I’m concerned no other band at this years MFNW is as must see as The Gories. I’ve never even had the chance to see them, and odds are good that they won’t ever make it back this way. Missing this is equal to losing a kidney.
September 2, 2010 at 16:23
I would be sooo excited to see Smashing Pumpkins, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, and The Tallest Man on Earth! But I am especially stoked to see Ra Ra Riot…I went to college with them and used to listen to them play at waffle parties in old college basements!
September 2, 2010 at 16:29
The National!
because i feel so overwhelmingly patriotic when i hear that band’s sweet music.
September 2, 2010 at 16:34
I am looking forward to seeing as many local bands as I can. MFNW is a great way to see my local heroes mixed in with some great national acts. I am most looking forward to The Decemberists, Weinland, Mbilly, The Thermals. Everyone!
September 2, 2010 at 17:06
The Smashing Pumpkins because I thought D’Arcy made a bad first impression back in ’93 with her pre-emo, bleached-fried-blonde, bedhead, deadhead hairdo. Is Chamberlain off smack yet?
September 2, 2010 at 17:34
i want to see the national because it fits my sad unemployed situation.
September 2, 2010 at 17:35
I’m excited to see a number of bands at MFNW… Perhaps the ones that first come to mind are The National and The Decemberists, because I’ve always loved their albums but have never been able to get out to see them.
September 2, 2010 at 17:48
I’m absolutely dying to see Menomena & Panda Bear!…just moved to Portland & what better of a welcoming gift than those 2 awesome show is there? ;)
September 2, 2010 at 18:22
So many choices!Decemberists for sure and Panda Bear.I’d be happy to see any of the music-so impressed with this year’s line up.
September 2, 2010 at 18:42
I want to see The National… Bloodbuzz Ohio is my favorite new song!
September 2, 2010 at 19:01
the national, because of lines like ‘it’s a common fetish, for a doting man, to ballerina on a coffee table, cock in hand.’ brilliant (and right). there are also some bands i want to discover based on friends’ recommendations, like cold cave, discovered courtesy my buddy in australia, corey! and then there are bands like the helio sequence, a band i’ve listened to only slightly, but because the fest is just around the bend, i’ve discovered them and totally dig em…yeah!
September 2, 2010 at 19:19
Smashing Pumpkins because they remind me of when I was cool in highschool and Panda Bear because Panda Bears are awesome.
September 2, 2010 at 19:54
Please, oh please, wristband for me… So much music to see, menomena, tu fawning, y la bamba, my head just begins to spins when I think about all the fantastic music experiences to be had.
September 2, 2010 at 20:08
Who WOULDN’T I want to see?
Pumpkins – to feel like I’m in high school again
Tallest Man on Earth – to support the swede
The National – because I have never seen them before
The list could go on…
September 2, 2010 at 20:39
I’m looking forward to seeing the Decemberists, one of my favourite bands, as well as seeing The Builders and the Butchers and Menomena for the first time.

Menomena!
September 2, 2010 at 21:12
Menomena, because I hear they put on a swell live show. And I’d love to see Sleep. Getting tix to a sold out show would be all kinds of awesome.
September 2, 2010 at 21:55
Smashing Pumpkins! They got me through lots of high school angst. Also, I want to meet up with a boy I know at the fest – he’s cute, pretty please!
September 2, 2010 at 22:44
I am SO looking forward to seeing Major Lazer! Now only is it booty shaking, but I was surprised to find out it was two white dudes with a sense of rhythm. Rock on!
September 3, 2010 at 00:17
I’m Really having a Crappy week. You know how bad things come in threes?? Well it seems like bad things in my life come by the 3 Dozen. My dad having a stroke, Losing my job, my car getting broken into, my bike stolen. Yea those type of weeks. This would really make my week even if I can escape into music bliss for a couple of days. Hope to get this one.
September 3, 2010 at 02:24
Smashing Pumpkins because it would be a great Portland welcome to this anxiety ridden boy from down south.
September 3, 2010 at 08:37
Last time I saw the Pumpkins was is South Bend Indiana.
This was way before the made it big time. Would love to see them again. :)
September 3, 2010 at 08:42
I want ,want, wan to see the Smashing Pumpkins. I love em so. I must must must see them. Hook me up Please!!!!!
September 3, 2010 at 09:06
Major Lazer (tag) because of their mention in the intro video on the MFNW site which is hilarious.
The Helio Sequence because they are a fantastic local band and The Thermals because they are amazing as well and Hutch was kind enough to reply to a charity gig request even though they were unable to play. Nice to see bands not ignore fans and people who contact them. =)
September 3, 2010 at 09:29
Smashing Pumpkins. I don’t know much about the band. But my husband and friends like them. I want to experience what all the other people are feeling when they listen live.
September 3, 2010 at 09:41
I would like to see Helio Sequence. I saw them once in a bar in Seattle many years ago…….since then, I have always been out of town or working when they’ve played. They are my “miss” band. I’d def like to end this pattern with a wristband! Thx!
September 3, 2010 at 09:51
i’m looking forward to seeing okkerville river and major lazer so i can get my fix of sweet songs and booty shakin’.
September 3, 2010 at 10:49
Major lazer and so much more
September 3, 2010 at 11:35
At MFNW I am most excited about seeing Morning Teleportation. I went to Sasquatch this year and saw a ton of big name bands and performers but local band Morning Teleportation blew my effing mind. We are so lucky to have amazing bands like them coming out of the NW. They are going to be BIG and I do not want to miss the opportunity to see them at intimate locations like the hawthorne theatre during MFNW before they blow up.
Cheerz,
-Dylan
September 3, 2010 at 12:34
menomena and the national.
September 3, 2010 at 13:33
There are tons of bands playing I want to see, but my top 2 listed here are the Thermals and (of course) The Pumpkins! Once upon a time I was heavily in to music, and went to concerts (almost)weekly….and in the past 2 years that stopped and I’m in a live music drought! I’m giddy just thinking about all the bands I would see!
September 3, 2010 at 15:06
Other than the fact that I have been jobless for the past several months in this terrible economy and without the funds to fully support the AWESOME Portland music scene that I love and rep so much, I would love to be able to lift the spirits of my girlfriend who lost everything she owned in a housefire(http://www.oregonlive.com/portland/index.ssf/2010/08/early_morning_house_fire_in_no.html) a couple weeks ago that nearly killed us both.
Aside from the fact that we would both thoroughly enjoy ourselves seeing as many of the bands as we could the entire weekend, I know she would love most to hear the blurred and woozingly evocative synthpop sounds of Washed Out. Not to mention I am a big PUTS fan and would love to see them and especially support my fellow Peruvian, Thes One.
Regardless of whether we get the wristbands or not, I’m gonna get her to the show and make sure to spread the love so everyone can feel it all around.
September 3, 2010 at 21:31
I would so rock that wristband(s) every which way ~ I want to see the Thermals so so so bad; love, adore, waist shaking, high fives and back slaps!
Pure Country Gold; love & respect our local boyz.
Dirty Mittens & Japandroids; meow meow meow!
September 4, 2010 at 11:16
For me it is all about the smashing pumpkins… The first album I ever received was melancholy and the infinite sadnes, when I was 12 years old. That album was so amazing that to this day, almost two decades later, it’s one of my all time favorite. Problem is, I have never seen them live… I missed the first line up with Jimmy chamberln, Iha and Darcy, had tickets to three other shows that never worked out( two were canceled and another I blew out three tires on the way) now they are back but I’m too broke to afford the tux. Keeping my fingers crossed though :-)
September 4, 2010 at 11:33
The National of course.
September 4, 2010 at 11:34
The national is who I’d love to see. So please pick me!
September 4, 2010 at 13:16
Smashing Pumpkins! Old School, and I love it.
September 4, 2010 at 17:36
I lovveee the Decemberists!!!
September 4, 2010 at 20:11
I want to see Menomena and Black Prairie, and I would like to see how Mike is doing in Smashing Pumpkins
September 5, 2010 at 09:28
Y La Bamba! Smashing Pumpkins! The National! Decemberists! Love love love the line up! :) I’d be a happy little lady to see these bands!

September 5, 2010 at 10:20
I’m really excited about the Nationals/Walkmen/Helio Sequence line up – I listen to all 3 all the time – so cool they’ll be playing on the same bill. it’s going to be a shoe-gazing fest of the highest order
September 5, 2010 at 10:55
The National! They have one of the best albums of the year and I want to hear it live!
September 5, 2010 at 11:05
Oops, posted in the wrong place the first time. My husband was just talking about this and was going to get tickets but he thought it was next week – I told him it was this coming week. It would be great to surprise him!
September 5, 2010 at 11:27
I’m way excited about The Thermals. I dig the Decemberists, I love local, but there is something about seeing a smaller (and by smaller I mean less mainstream) quirkier act that you can relate to. As in – they could totally live next door and you’d feel comfy hanging out.
September 5, 2010 at 12:29
In addition to The Decemberists, I would really like to see the Minus 5 play again. I got to see them play at the Doug Fir this spring and they gave an amazing performance that showcased each of the rotating members talents. It is nice seeing a band that remembers that music is, and should be, a collaborative effort.
September 5, 2010 at 13:24
This would be my first MFNW…more meaningful than losing my virginity. So many bands I haven’t seen before. Can’t wait for The National, Panda Bear, Black Lips, Pumpkins, Man Man…I want them all to have my baby.
September 5, 2010 at 14:01
umm. live music. and if it is something i could afford like free. I would see as much as i could (starting with panda bear) because i have all the time in the world but none of its money.
September 5, 2010 at 14:02
Who don’t I want to see?! Seriously though, I’m looking forward to seeing Sallie Ford and the Sound Outside, Blue Giant, Mbilly, The Shaky Hands, Y La Bamba, Richie Young, Dirty Mittens and The Walkmen…to name a few. There is just so much great music coming through town. Can’t wait to be around all that talent.
September 5, 2010 at 14:47
I was devastated to find out that Wiz was sold out! I’m a huge fan and missed his show last time around too. I also really want to introduce a friend to that Khalifa magic. She “say she never been, never been!”
September 5, 2010 at 16:46
Laura Veirs, because she sings about the Pacific Northwest (its plants, its skies, its pirates) like no one else.
I redesigned the cover art of “Carbon Glacier” for thesis in college and STILL haven’t gotten to see her live!
September 5, 2010 at 17:12
A special poem for you at PDX Pipeline…
Well I imagine my favorite act will be Dave Bazan
His genuine, emotional lyrics and beard just turn me on.
Also excited for Sara Jackson Holman, from Bend
She went to college with me and is my friend!
The National is epic, Helio Sequence is a joy
Sunday will be great, boy oh boy.
I love Rocky Votolato, he puts on a great show
And RaRaRiot will rock the place, we all know.
Can’t forget the Tallest Man on Earth! (What a claim)
I love his voice and guitar, though I don’t believe his name
Music Fest Northwest will be such a great time…
I hope PDX Pipeline will make these tickets mine!
September 5, 2010 at 19:24
Well pdx’s very own The Thermals!!!! Fresh off a new album, surrounded by some heavy hitters would be a sight to see. I’ve always wanted to see if Billy Corgan would recieve and/ore reciprocate a fist pound or high five. I’m assuming he wouldn’t but I may never know… the Decemberists…well sadly I always feel like I need to be on a fishing boat heading out of port when I listen to them and I’m curious to see if live they inspire a more landlocked mental imagery. Holy surprise…People Under the Stairs will provide some hip hopery. Looking forward to that. I actually own a couple of their CDs. Yes those round shiny things…anyways I have never actually been to a multi days music festival and am …well….pooor. So…… smiley face!!!!
September 5, 2010 at 20:31
Man Man: This show is going to be amazing! These guys are nuts. First of all, they go by stage names:
- Honus Honus
- Sergei Sogay
- Pow Pow
- Critter Crat (formerly known as “Cougar”)
- and Chang Wang
That’s ridiculous. Secondly, they have a video with Fred Armisen in it. Please, oh please, give me a wristband so I can check them out!
September 5, 2010 at 22:33
Oh man, so many, The National, Panda Bear, Surfer Blood, too friggen many!! Pick me!!!
September 5, 2010 at 23:55
Local band Morning Teleportation is gonna tear it up as usual. They are better than 90% of the bands on MFNW this year. I would love to cheer them on
September 6, 2010 at 01:04
I canNOT WAIT to see The Thermals! Every time they’ve played, I seem to be working. And now… well, I’m unemployed so the long held dream finally comes true. Ha!
September 6, 2010 at 04:26
Major Lazer. Why? Two words: Skerrit boy
September 6, 2010 at 07:59
The bands I MUST see are many, so here it goes!
Talkdemonic- Lisa plays the Viola with the same passion I have for my cooking.
Smashing Pumpkins- They inspired my sculptures!
Laura Veirs- She is on my wife’s list of artists to see.
The Helio Sequence- Benjamin Weikel, need I say more?
The Decemberists- We’ve missed every concert due to work- we can make this one without conflict!
Fractal Quintet- They were part of the line-up at our wedding. Why not seal the deal and see them live?
The National- Afraid of everyone must be seen live.
September 6, 2010 at 10:59
i want to be laura veirs when i grow up. i might explode with joy if i actually got to see her live.
September 6, 2010 at 11:47
Many Many Bands to see. Okkervil river cuz i missed them at the Jack daniels Party, i had to work. Decembrists cuz they are pretty darn good plus i hadn’t seen the piano player since she played in Calobo. Menomena cuz i like the name, Ted leo and the pharmacists. Aren’t they Canadian?
I like music. lotsa music. pick me.
September 6, 2010 at 12:35
The National…because they keep making incredible music which I’ve never seen live. The time has come…
September 6, 2010 at 15:29
It’s my birthday tomorrow, and I can’t imagine a greater gift than getting tickets to MFNW and the National show. Please?
September 6, 2010 at 16:39
i’m sad because i can’t see all of them!
September 6, 2010 at 18:31
i have to see SLEEP with yob and scott kelly on the 11th. sleep is one of those bands you regret being too young to see live…until the reunion happens 13 years later and you’re too broke to buy the ticket. auuuuuugh.
September 6, 2010 at 18:59
The Gories!!!
September 6, 2010 at 20:02
Wiz kalifa because I was planning on celebrating my birthday at the show, but it sold out before I could buy tickets. Also, smashing pumpkins because I’ve been a long time fan and missed every opportunity to see them live.
September 6, 2010 at 23:15
I can’t wait to see Blue Giant once again because Anita Robinson is a bad-ass guitar player and seeing the Dodos at Dante’s because I missed their set a few months ago at the Crystal Ballroom.
September 7, 2010 at 09:48
Ra Ra Riot because they are lovely, lovely, lovely (and killed it at Bumbershoot). The Thermals & Washed Out – haven’t seen them yet!
September 7, 2010 at 11:28
I have been wanting to see the Portland band Reporter since i heard them more then a year ago, and they don’t play that often. Can’t wait.
September 7, 2010 at 11:33
Sleep for one because Chris has put me on the VIP list at every PDX venue they have played. I haven’t made one. I swear Chris I had to work or be out of town every time. Modern English Reunion. My band opened for them at the Jungle Room in LA once. I want to be transported back to a more innocent drug and alcohol infused time for a night. A few groupies wouldn’t be bad either. My apologies to my forever groupie my wife.
September 7, 2010 at 11:36
TED LEO! It’s all ages & my 2 daughters (ages 7 & 15) are dying to see him! The three of us have never all been able to see TL&Rx together, & they’ve been playing his albums all week in anticipation. They’re VERY excited!
September 7, 2010 at 13:38
I want to see ALL of them! And I’m unemployed, so if I win tix I can!! Most interested in Panda Bear, Major Lazer and Smashing Pumpkins, but the bands off my radar are likely to be the ones to see. Yeah… all of them!
September 7, 2010 at 14:29
Oh, how I’d love to see The Smashing Pumpkins!
I didn’t even know they were coming and now they’re sold out?
September 7, 2010 at 15:00
The Thermals and Menomena because local tastes better
September 7, 2010 at 17:03
Would LOVE to see the Smashing Pumpkins, as I was too lame to catch them in years past! Regrets…
September 8, 2010 at 14:51
Menamena!!!!!! na nah na nah….
Been wanting and waiting to see them live. I cannot wait to give away my second pass to surprise an unsuspecting soul. heehee
September 8, 2010 at 20:54
My top two are Okkervil River and The National, but it would be fun to hear some new bands too.
September 9, 2010 at 13:54

I would absolutely die to see the Pumpkins, my favorite rock band since I was a teenager. I’ve tried to get tickets on Craigslist to no avail. It’s fantastic they are performing here this weekend, someone make a video of it!
September 9, 2010 at 16:35
LAST! do i win?
September 10, 2010 at 20:43
I’d like to see Smashing Pumpkins, because I haven’t seen them since their tour in 1997, and the Decemberists, because Colin’s new look is… um… different.
