She & Him make music for an eternal springtime, when the temperature is warm enough to go riding with the top (or at least the windows) rolled down and the radio turned up. They occupy an alternate universe where the saddest of songs feel as warm as sun showers; the rain may be coming down, but somewhere nearby, everything looks bright.
What began as a fascinating, no-strings attached collaboration evolved into a bona fide, touring band, and She & Him are here to stay. Zooey Deschanel and Matt Ward are as comfortable and complementary a musical pair as Les Paul and Mary Ford.

Once upon a time I was young with lots of money, and I went to lots of concerts…then I got older, had bills and it’s been almost 2 years since I’ve been to a concert. Please “up” my cool factor!

Please give me the tickets, because, well – seriously! – there I was. Stuck on the east coast for Christmas because of the farkin’ blizzard. I was just trying to get home for the holidays, but I had a layover in JFK and just couldn’t get out again. The mobs at the airport were freakin’ out, trying to get on the standby lists. I saw a round lady and her five little kids all yelling in unison at one poor ticket agent, like a choral group out of hell.
Sure, I was upset as any of them, but with thousands of people stuck and no planes flying, I didn’t see any benefit in standing around and yelling at strangers. After the 8-hour flight in, I was drained like a public pool in winter, so I took the train into the city. I didn’t have the energy to make any solid plans, but I figured I’d find a hot toddy somewhere and try to forget about the family time that I was missing back in Portland.
Well, I’m a bumpkin from Oregon, so it only took NYC about five minutes to chew me up and spit me out. At very the first stop, right before the doors closed again, two guys grabbed my suitcases and jumped off the train, leaving me trapped inside as it rolled away. Honestly, by this time I didn’t have the spark left to chase them down – I just wanted to go to sleep right there in the train, and hope that the world would somehow be ALL BETTER when I woke up.
Got off the train in Manhattan, and hey – guess what should have occurred to me before I left the airport? It turns out that most places aren’t open late-night on Christmas Eve. I couldn’t get my hot toddy, couldn’t find dinner, and the first three hotels I tried – and could afford! – were full up. I started laughing, now, the way some people do when they go to meet their hangman. Why NOT spend Christmas night sleeping in an alley in NYC, covered over in cardboard behind a closed Chinese restaurant? Sure, I was a happy man only a few hours ago, but who’s to say the world can’t end that quickly?
It was snowing pretty heavily, and I stumbled down the sidewalk, just aimlessly following the crowds. I thought I saw some kind of parade up ahead, so I headed towards it. It was the strangest thing, though – no parade, just one blonde girl standing on a sleigh all by herself. She was just standing there, and I couldn’t understand why so many people had stopped to watch – until she started singing.
Beautiful voice! It was incredible to hear – snapped me out of my funk and made me want to sing along. Everyone did, the entire crowd of crusty New Yorkers stuck in the night snow – everyone lit up when she started singing, and we were – I shit you not – suddenly merry. I’ll never forget that angel singing on that dark night.

So stoked when I saw they were playing! I’d love to go because I love She& Him; they’re so talented and I’d love for my first show in PXD to be an amazing one! Plus I’d love to rub it in Hannah’s face that I’d won tickets (even though I’d probably take just end up taking her)
I want to take my very best friend in the whole world to this show. We are both devoted M. fans and can’t get get enough of She and Him! Here are three additional reasons why we would be great winners of these tickets:
1. I am a teacher and she is a fishwife so fancy concerts our out of our budgets.
2. She is a lifelong Portlander who just turned 30 and has never seen a show at the Schnitz!

So this past summer my girlfriend and I shelled out the big bucks to go to Sasquatch with the hopes of seeing She & Him perform at the Amphitheater which sounded awesome. Almost on cue with when they started to perform the kid next us went into a really dark acid/shroom trip (don’t do drugs kids) and began yelling/ laughing/ crying/dancing, sometimes all at once. Everyone within 100 feet, ourselves included, were sucked into this jaw dropping sight thus missing most of the show. We would love a second shot at checking them out live and this seems like the perfect opportunity!

The first three reasons in the order they popped into my head for wanting to see the sweetness that is Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward.
1) I generally hate female voices and yet Zooey’s doesn’t irk me. (Which is funny, because I generally like good TV actresses, and yet I love her sister Emily!) Go figure!
2) The Schnitz?! Growing up in the metro area, this place always seemed so glamorous. I’d love to go before I turn 30!
3)As a teacher that hates missing work, I only get to go out on the weekends. A Friday show before three days of teacher-parent conferences would be an utter delight!

She & Him is one of my favorite bands in the world… But alas I am a poor college student, can’t afford $80 to go to the show.
