She & Him w/ Mike Coykendall & The Golden Shag
Friday, October 22nd Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall
But tickets here
—-
She & Him make music for an eternal springtime, when the temperature is warm enough to go riding with the top (or at least the windows) rolled down and the radio turned up. They occupy an alternate universe where the saddest of songs feel as warm as sun showers; the rain may be coming down, but somewhere nearby, everything looks bright.

What began as a fascinating, no-strings attached collaboration evolved into a bona fide, touring band, and She & Him are here to stay. Zooey Deschanel and Matt Ward are as comfortable and complementary a musical pair as Les Paul and Mary Ford.

OMG! MY FAVORITE! As pathetic as this sounds, please please please pick me! Love love love!

    • Tina October 27, 2010 at 13:51 #

I would feel very fortunate to win the tickets because I am looking to expand my knowledge and taste in music. It would be a wonderful experience if I could attend the event at this wonderful venue. Thankyou.
      -Tina

  2. Jaimee October 19, 2010 at 19:17 #

Love their music and love this venue!

  3. Linda W October 19, 2010 at 19:19 #

Oh yes, please! I would love to see them! My man loves M. Ward and I love Zooey. They are perfect for us. While he has seen “Him” I have not seen either of them.
My man invited me to see Him when we lived in Austin years ago. I missed my chance and I have always regretted it.
    Fingers crossed.

  4. Noah Johanson October 19, 2010 at 19:21 #

I think I should win these tickets because I had won the Doug Benson tickets last weekend, but no where did it explicitly say it was 21+, so I had to sell the tickets. PLEASE let the readers know if a show is 21+! Thanks.

  5. Linda W October 19, 2010 at 19:22 #

Oh yes, please! My man loves Him and I love She, it would be great to see them together. My man invited me to see Him when we lived in Austin, but I passed on my chance. It would be perfect to see them now.
    Fingers crossed!

  6. Rachel October 19, 2010 at 19:22 #

I just moved to the Portland, OR/Vancouver, WA area and I’m still learning the area. This would give me the chance to get out and experience and learn more about this great area…plus I love Zooey’s singing…not to mention her acting too.

It would be such a great honor to see them in concert.

    Thank you,

    ~Rachel Mellotte

  11. Rebecca Sander October 19, 2010 at 19:34 #

I would like to win because I’m a Mom of three and never get out of the house for any “me” time. Me time is supposed to be good for you and stuff.

  12. ZV Warchevsky October 19, 2010 at 19:45 #

I was in a major rush to get info, and was about to give up, then I found your site, and I was so so relieved! If I don’t win the tickets, I am also looking for a timing belt for a ’94 Taurus.

  13. maureen October 19, 2010 at 19:51 #

Just moved here from LA and haven’t been to a show yet. Would love to go!

  16. Jeremy October 19, 2010 at 20:39 #

I would love to win tickets to this show because it’s a show that I could get my wife to go to with me. Usually I have to go by myself. (this is one band we both like)

  17. C.A. October 19, 2010 at 20:46 #

Also, that’s such a beautiful venue – what a perfect combination!

  22. John Barrios October 19, 2010 at 21:46 #

My now wife and I fell in love while sharing their first record. Corny but true.

  23. Matthew Flook October 19, 2010 at 22:17 #

I think my girlfriend has a bigger crush on Zooey than she does on me. We would *love* to see them at this fantastic venue!

  24. Joe C October 19, 2010 at 22:20 #

To date, I have written several poems that borrow titles from M. Ward’s discography, and in there somewhere is probably at least one poem about Deschanel, or at least her movies.

And also, if I get free tickets to the show, our entire household can go (me and gf, and roomies are going already), and it will most definitely get me laid. Haha.

    Thanks!

  25. Tina October 19, 2010 at 23:06 #

Once upon a time I was young with lots of money, and I went to lots of concerts…then I got older, had bills and it’s been almost 2 years since I’ve been to a concert. Please “up” my cool factor!

  26. kelly October 19, 2010 at 23:38 #

    please pick me.

  27. Barry October 20, 2010 at 00:00 #

Please give me the tickets, because, well – seriously! – there I was. Stuck on the east coast for Christmas because of the farkin’ blizzard. I was just trying to get home for the holidays, but I had a layover in JFK and just couldn’t get out again. The mobs at the airport were freakin’ out, trying to get on the standby lists. I saw a round lady and her five little kids all yelling in unison at one poor ticket agent, like a choral group out of hell.

Sure, I was upset as any of them, but with thousands of people stuck and no planes flying, I didn’t see any benefit in standing around and yelling at strangers. After the 8-hour flight in, I was drained like a public pool in winter, so I took the train into the city. I didn’t have the energy to make any solid plans, but I figured I’d find a hot toddy somewhere and try to forget about the family time that I was missing back in Portland.

Well, I’m a bumpkin from Oregon, so it only took NYC about five minutes to chew me up and spit me out. At very the first stop, right before the doors closed again, two guys grabbed my suitcases and jumped off the train, leaving me trapped inside as it rolled away. Honestly, by this time I didn’t have the spark left to chase them down – I just wanted to go to sleep right there in the train, and hope that the world would somehow be ALL BETTER when I woke up.

Got off the train in Manhattan, and hey – guess what should have occurred to me before I left the airport? It turns out that most places aren’t open late-night on Christmas Eve. I couldn’t get my hot toddy, couldn’t find dinner, and the first three hotels I tried – and could afford! – were full up. I started laughing, now, the way some people do when they go to meet their hangman. Why NOT spend Christmas night sleeping in an alley in NYC, covered over in cardboard behind a closed Chinese restaurant? Sure, I was a happy man only a few hours ago, but who’s to say the world can’t end that quickly?

It was snowing pretty heavily, and I stumbled down the sidewalk, just aimlessly following the crowds. I thought I saw some kind of parade up ahead, so I headed towards it. It was the strangest thing, though – no parade, just one blonde girl standing on a sleigh all by herself. She was just standing there, and I couldn’t understand why so many people had stopped to watch – until she started singing.

Beautiful voice! It was incredible to hear – snapped me out of my funk and made me want to sing along. Everyone did, the entire crowd of crusty New Yorkers stuck in the night snow – everyone lit up when she started singing, and we were – I shit you not – suddenly merry. I’ll never forget that angel singing on that dark night.

    Look – I even took a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Foeeq4Sfwrg

Oh, m¥ freaking God, I hope you won the tickets!

  28. Shiela October 20, 2010 at 00:17 #

So stoked when I saw they were playing! I’d love to go because I love She& Him; they’re so talented and I’d love for my first show in PXD to be an amazing one! Plus I’d love to rub it in Hannah’s face that I’d won tickets (even though I’d probably take just end up taking her)

  29. Lucy October 20, 2010 at 06:17 #

I want to take my very best friend in the whole world to this show. We are both devoted M. fans and can’t get get enough of She and Him! Here are three additional reasons why we would be great winners of these tickets:
    1. I am a teacher and she is a fishwife so fancy concerts our out of our budgets.
    2. She is a lifelong Portlander who just turned 30 and has never seen a show at the Schnitz!
    3. I used to play with Zooey Deschanel’s sister Emily at my friend Anne’s house when I was in grade school.

    Thanks for reading, Mercury!

  30. Mike October 20, 2010 at 08:29 #

I’ve seen M Ward several times, but never seen them together. This show would be rad.

  31. Craig October 20, 2010 at 08:41 #

I would really like to go see this show.

  32. carlos October 20, 2010 at 09:10 #

It’s my birthday, I’m unemployed and don’t have the $80 (2 tix, wife and I) to drop on the show. This would make my month.
    Thanks!

  33. Brian Denham October 20, 2010 at 09:17 #

My parents are in town and have offered to watch the baby so that my wife and I can go out but we’ve got no money and nowhere to go. M Ward is our favorite.

  34. Shely October 20, 2010 at 11:07 #

The only pair of pronouns better than “She & Him” is “You & Me.” That’s right, Pipeline. I’m hitting on you. If you play your cards right, you might just get to second base.

  35. Laura Kucera October 20, 2010 at 12:21 #

My best friend who I met in Australia is visiting Portland. I can’t think of anything that could make her experience here more magical than M Ward, Zooey, & the Schnitz. *melting into a sexy puddle* xx

  39. Owen October 20, 2010 at 15:15 #

So this past summer my girlfriend and I shelled out the big bucks to go to Sasquatch with the hopes of seeing She & Him perform at the Amphitheater which sounded awesome. Almost on cue with when they started to perform the kid next us went into a really dark acid/shroom trip (don’t do drugs kids) and began yelling/ laughing/ crying/dancing, sometimes all at once. Everyone within 100 feet, ourselves included, were sucked into this jaw dropping sight thus missing most of the show. We would love a second shot at checking them out live and this seems like the perfect opportunity!

  40. julie October 20, 2010 at 15:44 #

    Thanks!!

  82. Erika October 21, 2010 at 19:28 #

The first three reasons in the order they popped into my head for wanting to see the sweetness that is Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward.

    1) I generally hate female voices and yet Zooey’s doesn’t irk me. (Which is funny, because I generally like good TV actresses, and yet I love her sister Emily!) Go figure!

    2) The Schnitz?! Growing up in the metro area, this place always seemed so glamorous. I’d love to go before I turn 30!

3)As a teacher that hates missing work, I only get to go out on the weekends. A Friday show before three days of teacher-parent conferences would be an utter delight!

    Thanks!

  83. Kasey October 21, 2010 at 19:47 #

Because I need an excuse to wear my cute/sexy dress that I bought for just such an event as this where I can surprise my bf with a spontaneous music date…I <3 PDXpipeline…feeling like a winner…

  84. M October 21, 2010 at 19:48 #

  86. Amanda Smith October 21, 2010 at 21:31 #

Oh! I hope I win!!! I was belting out She & Him in the car today wishing so badly I could afford to go to the show tomorrow. Every time I am having a bad day I listen to these guys… instant good mood : ) and Zoey is so cute! Please , Please, Please pick me!!!!

  87. kate walker October 21, 2010 at 21:37 #

  89. Susan Damato October 22, 2010 at 06:57 #

zooey has the most beautiful voice ever, and i’ve really been enjoying their album. please enter me for free tickets, thx!

  90. Drew Rosa October 22, 2010 at 09:54 #

She & Him is one of my favorite bands in the world… But alas I am a poor college student, can’t afford $80 to go to the show. My friend Trish, is another Huge fan, and has been looking for an excuse to quit her job. If I was able to tell her that I had 2 free tickets to the show, she would quit tonight. She’s already given her two weeks, and worked them… but her bosses keep convincing her to come in. :( PLEASE pick us!!!

  91. Finn October 22, 2010 at 10:35 #

So last night I had a first date with this amazing, beautiful, funny, vivacious woman who literally has me thinking about nothing else this morning. The date went so well we are going out tonight. And I really, really want to take her to She and Him. But I’m a poor writer, she’s a starving artist and between us we don’t have $90 for tickets so make love happen!

  92. Cheryl October 22, 2010 at 10:42 #

My husband and I are finally focusing on each other after 13 years, our #1 priority is to have a night out together.
    **Happy for a fresh start**

  93. Stacey October 22, 2010 at 11:51 #

  94. emily October 22, 2010 at 12:17 #

She and him rock me socks off.. I have been wanting to see them for a while but havnt managed to be able to afford it. Maybe someday when being a teacher pays what it should…. Or when I win them here :)

  95. Morgan October 22, 2010 at 12:19 #

I would like to attend because as someone who was laid off nearly a year ago now and can’t find a job, I have no money to attend concerts anymore. I LOVE She & Him and would love to be able to do something fun on a Friday night for the first time in months!!!

  96. Shelley October 22, 2010 at 12:23 #

I’d like to win tickets because my social life has been a bit hindered because I broke my foot.I missed seeing the president! because I cant be on my feet standing for 6+ hours.
This is a chance of a lifetime!

  97. Erinne October 22, 2010 at 12:27 #

I want to go because She & Him make great music and look sooo good doing it!

  98. Marabeth October 22, 2010 at 12:29 #

If I do not save my friend from attending her ex’s show tonight, she may, in fact, spontaneously combust. And I don’t just mean a small poof and all that’s left is a pile of ashes, I mean a full on, face melting, fiery mess that could seriously injure innocent by-standers, possibly even, *gasp*, CHILDREN.

She specifically asked me about this concert tonight, so I’m pretty damn sure that being chosen would compel the hands of fate to turn a figurative fire hose on her, and also, she’d probably buy me a few drinks, which works out well for everyone.

I hope you pick using a random number or something because if it goes by the most interesting comment.. I probably lose.

But seriously, She and I would love to go see She and Him.

I just met a lovely lovely lady after a year of solitude, and I’d love to take her to see She & Him. I know she’d love it! How romantic!

Just got back from the show….boy M.Ward is wasting his time with this yenta. He has so much talent and only one of his songs was played. All the show was about her and her whiny voice.

    M.Ward run away from this.

    She sucks.

I need to win these tickets because I am phone canvassing for Measure 76 (if you love your environment, you should vote Yes on it) and someone just told me to “Go fuck myself!” before they slammed down the phone. The cheery, up-lifting lyrics of She & Him are exactly what I need to look forward o after a full day of constantly getting hung-up on.

Please pick me. I would love to listen to this music and attend this event. Im so busy being a student in college that this would be a great way to learn in a fun environment. Thankyou!
ps: Im not sure if my other comment went through..
