About Mavis Staples (www.mavisstaples.com)
“American Treasure” Mavis Staples Delivers Raw Joy on New Album You Are Not Alone, Produced by Jeff Tweedy
Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and soul/gospel legend Mavis Staples delivers more wall-to-wall joy on her triumphant new album, You Are Not Alone (released September 14) than any other release you're likely to hear this year. Read more here on Mavis Staples here…
About Billy Bragg (www.billybragg.co.uk)
He was born Steven William Bragg in Essex around the time Tommy Steele was climbing the singles charts
with Happy Guitar and the Soviet Union was launching Sputnik 2 into space. Today, on the verge of the release of his eleventh and best album, Mr. Love & Justice, he is known as Billy Bragg by his loyalists worldwide yet he is still called Steven by his mother and still referred to as the Bard of Barking by the press.
He has worked, and worked is the operative verb here, alongside British parliamentarians, unskilled unemployed workers, members of the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, young music hopefuls, unsung buskers in the street, incarcerated convicts, newly liberated refugees, punk rockers and striking dockers. I really like Billy Bragg from the albums he did with Wilco. And Mavis Staples sang “The Weight” with The Band on the Last Waltz soundtrack / movie.
I’d love to see Mavis in Portland!
I would love to win these tickets.
I would love to attend because I love Mavis Staples…it would be an amazing show to attend. Thanks for considering.
For my brother who loves Wilco and big black women.
Because, for real, the power and the passion unleashed this evening will be amazing. I would love to soak in it, even if just for a couple of hours – renewed, recharged, and more aware.
This is a guaranteed night of incredible music, and I want in! Please!
Must I paint you a picture? I only know the 80s Billy Bragg. I NEED to get to know Mr Love and Justice. ;)
Winning these tickets would be wonderful. WONDERFUL.
I would love, love, love to hear Ms. Staples. She is a living legend with a remarkable spirit and a tremendous body of work she has shared with us.
Love both of their styles. Great combination.
Mavis Staples new album “You Are Not Alone” is solid. I’d love to see her live at the Crystal Ballroom on “The Hope, Love & Justice Tourâ€ÂÂ
Thanks
. This would score me some big points with my girlfriend. I would love to surprise her with these tickets. She is a huge Wilco/Billy Bragg fan. Fingers crossed.
Hey, I would love to win tickets to see these artists live. I recently discovered them and like what I’ve heard thus far. Social justice is one of my passions and I like artists who address similar issues. I’m so deeply inspired that as an undergraduate student I’m working on constructing my own degree in liberal arts specializing in social justice. Tickets would not be wasted on me.
Cheers,
Alexandra
Well, if I win “I’ll Take You There”. I don’t need a special occasion, so even if “Valentine’s Day Is Over,” “If You’re Ready (Come Go With Me),” because where else can you both “Be What You Are” and finally answer the question “Which Side Are You On?”
And also, besides these two being amazing performers, she finds the time to start a hugely successful office supply chain and he makes killer liquid aminos. I mean, are they like superheroes or what?
I got no boyfriend to take because PDX is 3 female-to-1 male ratio and may be that’s an excuse but I’m tired of listening to people who want to take their significant others. Please pick a single person.
PICK ME!!!!!!!
Thank you :)
Sa-weet! Miss Mavis! I’d like to attend to see 2 serious legends. How often can you do that?
Mavis and Bragg! wow a not to miss show that I cannot afford.
I want these tix for sure (20 year social justice high school teacher finds inspiration and empowerment through music), but it is clear that benjamin (see above and VeenaDay (see also above) have the best answers–so in the name of love and justice. . . I think they deserve to go.
OMG! IF i actually saw Billy Bragg in person I might actually do my husband again!
It’s all about the price of… those tickets!
One of my best friends in college wrote the only fan letter she’s ever written in her life to Billy Bragg. He never replied. I’d like to sort that whole thing out.
I am a huge fan of Billy Bragg–I even went to his book tour a few years ago!
Mavis!!!!
Please pick us!!
Before I was married, whenever I had my heart broken I would listen to Mavis Staples’ Only The Lonely record for weeks until I felt ready for life again. I never thought I’d see her live and with raising a family, buying concert tix is not our priority, but having this night would be. Thank you for the opportunity!
I’d love to win this because Billy Bragg is a wobbly! And also awesome. As is Mavis.
What an awesome way to begin November!! Mavis is considered one of the best female singers of all time and I would love to see her perform. Thanks for choosing me:-)
I want to have Billy Bragg’s babies. And Lady Staples is a legend. Maybe she could be the Godmother.
I loe both of these performers and I have no $. I would love to win these tickets! Pick me…..please?
This looks like a fantastic show. I would love the opportunity to go!
This show is like a dream pairing for my girlfriend and me. I have been a fan of Billy Bragg since the late 80′s, while she has been a huge fan of the Staples Singers since childhood.
Believe me, it’s rare we find a bill that matches our musical tastes as well as this one.
Excellent combination… would love to see them both!
I’d love to win these tickets – Mavis is a legend, and Wilco is a legend-in-the making!
I wanna go simply because this show is going to kick ass! … And Im a broke m.f.
We need some good live music to make a sibling for our daughter. te he he
My boyfriend just moved to Boston. Please send me to a show with my bestie so I can remember how awesome Portland is!
Because I need some MAVIS in my life!!
Billy and Mavis? Awesome. I’d like to go bc I first saw Billy in 1987, and Mavis when she was working with Prince. Together? The bomb.
I have been a huge Billy Bragg fan for years! His live shows are the best. What a great pre-election night show!
I’ve been a huge fan since the Red Stars days. Would REALLY love to see BB on this tour.
I would love to win!
