Few artists can lay claim to the titles of 'legendary' and 'pioneering', but as the NME argued recently, 'Gary Numan's influence on electronic music is unparalleled.' His signature style can be heard in everything from bands such as Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins, Basement Jaxx, Sugababes, Wu Tang Clan and Afrika Bambaata.
It's also no coincidence that all of these artists have chosen to cover or sample his songs.
He has also been widely recognized as influential in recent years by artists such as Queens of the Stone Age, Beck, Tricky, Damon Albarn and David Bowie, but Numan's influence is far reaching, having inspired a wide range of musical genres from hip hop to techno.
Now in his 30th year as a recording artist and having amassed millions of record sales, including 2 number one singles 'Are Friends Electric?' and 'Cars' and 3 number one albums 'Replicas', 'The Pleasure Principle' and 'Telekon', 2008 saw Numan successfully complete a sold out 15 date 'Replicas' UK Tour and perform to thousands at various shows and festivals around the UK including Bestival, Wicker Man and The Mighty Boosh Festival, where he has become an instantly recognizable cult figure to a whole new generation on the Boosh TV series.
As Kerrang! magazine recently wrote, 'Gary Numan is vital as ever…the Godfather is back and he's here to stay.'

I want to go to the concert with my friends in our CARS.
I’ve been a fan of Gary Numan for years, if not decades, and would love to see him perform live! Free tickets would only sweeten the deal!
Yet another staple I grew up with. I can’t remember a time in my conscious memory I wasn’t listening to Gary Numan on tape with my dad in his truck on trips down to visit my grandparents. A gem of a musician.
Are Friends Electric?
Is Anything Free?
Summer was hectic
But now it’s just me and Gary.
You know I hate to ask but are ‘friends’ electric?
Only mine’s broke down and now I’ve no-one to love.
‘cept GARY!
I love Gary Numan. Talk about a guy who knows his stuff. What a great artist, musician, composer. I loved the Cars… I love what he’s doing now… It would be an honor to see his live performance. Thanks.
Gary Numan! I’ve been a fan since I was little. Are Friends Electric has one of the most catchy synth lines ever. It would be an honor to get to see a living legend.
Gary Numan! I never saw him live, but always wanted to . Thank you :)
Are friends electric?
…You know I hate to ask
But are ‘friends’ electric?
Only mine’s broke down
And now I’ve no-one to love
So I found out your reasons
For the phone calls and smiles
And it hurts and I’m lonely
And I should never have tried
And I missed you tonight
So it’s time to leave
You see it meant everything to me…
Brian had sex…with this really dumb girl….now he’s taking his friend Stewie…to get some ice cream…in his car!
I AM THE EYE IN THE SKY, LOOKING AT YOUUUU I CAN READ YOUR MIND. I would be humbled to attend the concert of such an influential and talented dude.
Who else on here still has the 45 of Cars? I do. That’s massive. Plus, I met this girl online the other night, who’s pretty dang hot. She’s going to be there and wanted me to go so we could meet. Guess what? I’m broke like a hobo. You’d be doing me a solid on this one.
Gary gives unbounded pleasure at his shows. It the principal thing he does. It’s like Nu. Get it man?
Send me those tixs for another extraordinary event.
Thanks
I’d like to win tickets. I loved him in Dracula and The Fifth Element. Not so much in Tiptoes.
Because I hope to see him drive around in his go-cart while singing “Cars”!
I still have my 45 of Cars & I’ve never seen Gary Numan live.
I’d love to see what he does live & I know there’s much more to him than Cars.
I saw Mr. Numan’s “Cars” video when I was 8 years old, and I freaked out. Years later, my friends who worked at record stores in Chicago turned me on to the Tubeway Army stuff. Once I learned that most of his songs were ideas from his science fiction world, I was hooked. References to Phillip K. Dick and the singer looks like an android? Amazing. I still watch and love that “Cars” video, and I am jumping at the opportunity to see him live.
PDX Pipeline is one of the finest entertainment resources on the Portland wide web, hands down nuff sed.
Gary Numan? Heck yes!!!!
Because his other car is a bike.
I love Gary Numan and Pleasure Principle is my favorite album of his!!!! I will do the robot at the show if I win. :D
Because I love the Pleasure Principle, Metal is one of my favorite Numan songs, and I am dying to hear it live! I did see Numan once before, about 5 years ago, but besides Are Friends Electric? and Down In The Park, he didn’t perform much of his earlier material, so seeing him do the Pleasure Principle album in it’s entirety would be awesome! I own most of his albums (including the Tubeway Army ones) from the ’70s and ’80s. I’ve also been a fan of his for about 10 years. I used to have the poster that came with the Telekon LP on my wall until my cat decided to be a jerk and tear it down. I own Urgh! A Music War, and Numan’s performance is one of my favorites in it (Down In The Park) and I also own a video of the Telekon tour, so I know how awesome he can be live performing his earlier material, and I want to see it for myself! If you gave me the free tickets, the concert and music would be very much appreciated, and I wouldn’t just be going to it so I could hear Cars. Numan has always been much more than just a one hit wonder to me. Thanks!
I want to see Gary Numan… in CARS. I promise to lay on the mascara… thickly.
Another good show at the Crystal!
Gary Numan rocks. I rock, and thus Gary Numan and I must rock together at his show. In order for me to get in, free tickets are required. Then the required rock show with go off as planned with me cheering on with adoration for Gary and the band, and Gary and the band giving it up to Portland like no other!
