Coffee Fair Celebrates the World’s Most Popular Drink
November 6 & 7, 2010
10am -3pmWorld Forestry Center
Washington Park
For more information, please call 503-228-1367 or visit www.worldforestry.org
The World Forestry Center invites visitors to fuel their caffeine addiction with Coffee Fair on November 6 & 7 from 10am -3pm. This special event celebrates the world’s most popular drink in all its forms from espresso, to lattes, to even the plain ol’ Cup O’ Joe.
The World Forestry Center hopes to educate coffee consumers about where their coffee comes from and how it is produced. Visitors can expect a total emersion in Northwest coffee culture through savoring and sipping coffees from around the globe from some of the Pacific Northwest premier roasters. Coffee tasting has become an art, rivaling wine in chemical complexity.
At Coffee Fair, visitors can:
- learn nuances of coffee and discover new favorites;
- compare and contrast favorite established roasters to new, fresh micro-roasters;
- sample coffee from exotic locales such as Ethiopia, Brazil, and Guatemala roasted to perfection in the Pacific Northwest.
- learn coffee basics from The Passionate Harvest, a 60 min. video that chronicles the journey of coffee from seed to cup;
Coffee Fair is sponsored in part by: K&F Select Fine Coffees, Batdorf & Bronson Coffee Roasters, IKEA, Kick Ax Coffee, Kink.fm, and Willamette Week.
The World Forestry Center is a 501(c)(3) non profit educational organization dedicated to teaching about the world’s forests and trees and environmental stewardship. Coffee Fair admission includes admission to the Center’s Discovery Museum as well. The museum is located in Portland’s beautiful Washington Park and is open every day from 10am- 5pm. Admission is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors and $5 for children ages 3-18. There is a $2 Metro parking fee per car that is waived if visitors take public transportation. The museum is five minutes from downtown Portland, just off Hwy 26 and is also accessible by MAX light rail line.

The scent of coffee makes me smile…
November 4, 2010 at 13:39
I would love to start learning as much about coffee as I know about tea! Guaranteed, I’m the only one on this list that spent 6 months on a self-guided tour around India to learn about tea and even opened my own shop on the east coast! Coffee was my first love, and though I know some great info about it, I’d love to learn more and network with other people who share my insane passion for hot drinks!
:D

For Coffee Drinkers: You know you are addicted to coffee if …
You grind your coffee beans in your mouth.
You sleep with your eyes open.
You have to watch videos in fast-forward.
You’re so jittery that people use your hands to blend their margaritas.
You don’t sweat, you percolate.
You have a picture of your coffee mug on your coffee mug.
You can outlast the Energizer bunny.
Your first-aid kit contains two pints of coffee with an I.V. hookup.
You sent me to the coffee fair to test drive more coffee. Heres to you PDX for giving coffee lovers hope while drinking there 10th espresso. Hope to win.

November 4, 2010 at 16:49
I love coffee and have recently been learning a lot about where it is grown and how direct trade is so much better for the world than buying from massive corporations. This would be a perfect opportunity to taste some new, sustainable varietals.

“Face everything avoid nothing”
I intend to fully indulge in the delight of all the flavors that coffee can inspire, appreciating all the levels of the intense aromas of the beans and how hard the growers/field hands through production work to bring us the plentiful varieties of delicious coffee to be savoired with delight.
Yes, I will win these tickets and be there to relish and enjoy and experience and share with others what I have discovered in coffee.
November 5, 2010 at 11:10

I just moved into the area, being a barista from elsewhere. I came here after hearing the incredible level of quality Portland offers, and I want to be able to train to meet that standard to be successful in a place that really takes their beans seriously! This would be a great chance for me to learn, engage, and educate myself so I can be a part of the Portland caliber!
November 5, 2010 at 21:42
I have lived in Oregon for 30 years- Portland for 15- I have never been able to drink a regular cup of coffee and have tried and tried to like it. Maybe going to a coffee fair will help me find the “one”. Would love to win to check it out!
