All eligible video entries will win super-karaoke-cred by becoming a part of Voicebox's song catalog. That's right, contestants will be immortalized when Voicebox replaces the "standard" versions of their top songs with the amazing creations of the contestants!

As a GRAND PRIZE for the best overall production, one of Portland's starving video artists will pay January's rent with $500 IN CASH. Second and third prizes, decided by popular vote on Facebook, will take home $200 in cash and a $200 Voicebox gift certificate, respectively. All non-winning entrants will also receive a free two-hour karaoke party in one of Voicebox's swanky suites, in addition to having their entry included in the song library.

Contestants will produce a video for any of Voicebox's top twenty songs, as tallied by Voicebox's super-computers based on the over 190,000 songs sung in the past two years. The official top twenty list appears below.

Just to be clear, this is not a karaoke singing or lip-syncing contest. Entries should creatively reflect the spirit of the song, so go crazy. The ever-classy Weekend Leisure team provides an example:

Entry Requirements

Each entry shall consist of a video file synchronized with the karaoke version of a song from Voicebox's top song list (see below).  The visual content of the video can be anything, so long as it is in good taste.

Videos must include visuals and lyrics which are synchronized with the music.  Displayed lyrics must be synchronized to the actual vocal syllable being sung, not just to the word.  Entries may use any method to display the lyrics, they don't necessarily need to be digitally superimposed  — get creative!

Videos must be the original work of the entrant.

Eligible Song Versions

Videos must be synchronized with legally obtained karaoke versions of one of Voicebox's top twenty songs (see below for song list).  Entrants must purchase the karaoke version of the song themselves. Voicebox cannot provide the karaoke version for entrants.

For best results, we recommend choosing versions published by Sunfly, Zoom or SBI, in that order. These versions for all top twenty songs may be purchased easily online through Tricerasoft. Voicebox has NO financial interest or affiliation with Tricerasoft. Links to approved versions are listed below, and none costs more than $2.49. Entrants may present their receipt for the song purchase as a coupon for food, beverages, or karaoke at Voicebox.

If you obtain a karaoke version from a source other than Tricerasoft, we may have to reject your entry if we cannot easily and legally obtain the version that you're using.

Technical Requirements

To be considered valid entries:

• Videos should have a title screen that lists the song title, song artist(s), video composers, etc.
• Videos must be at least standard definition quality: 640Ã-480 pixels.  Higher resolution is preferred.
• The karaoke version audio track should be embedded in the video file and encoded either as PCM or as MP3.
• Video tracks should be compressed with a lossless codec — or with a lossy codec (H.264, MPEG-2, Xvid, DivX, Quicktime) set to very high quality settings.  Entries that are unreadable by VLC media player or that are over-compressed may be rejected.
• Video files must be submitted in person or by mail on either USB flash drive or on DVD-ROM media.  Do not submit fully authored DVDs, only DVD-ROMs with video files on them.  Entry media may be returned to entrants by pick-up only after the video files have been copied and verified.

Deadlines

November 27, 6pm: All submissions must be received by mail or hand-delivery.
November 29: Videos will be posted on Voicebox's Facebook page and voting begins.
December 7: Facebook voting ends.
December 8: Winners are announced at the video premier party

Prizes and Determination of Winners

Grand Prize, a check for $500 :  Voicebox staff will select the winner.

Second Prize, $200:  The winner will be selected by popular Facebook vote: all video entries will be posted on Voicebox's Facebook page, and the winner is the video that gets the most "likes."

Third Prize, $200 Voicebox Gift Certificate:  The winner is determined by Facebook vote (see above.)  The gift certificate is valid any day with advanced reservation.  Good for food, beverage, or karaoke time.

Participation Prize, gift certificate for a 2-hour karaoke party for up to 20 guests ($140 retail value).  Valid all night Sunday through Thursday and from 4 -7pm on Friday or Saturday.  All non-winning entrants who submit a qualifying video will receive a Participation Prize.  Entrants will receive up to one Participation Prize, no matter how many entries they submit.

Permissions

By submitting a video, entrants give Voicebox  permission to screen their video entry in the course of its commercial operations and for promotional use related to this contest. For any other purpose, Voicebox shall obtain entrant's permission before use. Entrants own their original work and may withdraw permission to use their video at any time.

Other Details

• No purchase from Voicebox necessary to enter the contest.
• Individuals may submit multiple entries, so long as each entry satisfies these conditions.
• Voicebox reserves the right to reject any entry for any reason.
• Entrants must be at least 13 years old.
• Entrants must be residents of Oregon or Washington State.
