More info: nwfilm.org
Lights. Camera. Trees. November 5—13, the Northwest Film Center presents the 37th Northwest Film & Video Festival, spotlighting filmmakers in the Pacific Northwest, from Alaska, British Columbia, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington State. This year's Festival includes nearly 40 new films, including a dozen works selected as Judges Award Winners by this year's Festival juror, Gill Dennis. Dennis is Master Filmmaker-in-Residence at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles and screenwriter of the Academy Award-winning Walk the Line. In addition to 18 screenings featuring outstanding shorts, documentaries and features, a full schedule of workshops and panels will feature opportunities to meet filmmakers from throughout the region.
The Northwest Film & Video Festival opens Friday, November 5, with the first of three programs of Festival Shorts, the announcement of the winner of the 2011 Oregon Media Arts Fellowships, and the Opening Night Party at the Film Center's School of Film sponsored by MacTarnahan's Brewing Company. The opening weekend includes BAR CAMP4, a user-generated "un-conference" for filmmakers to share their experience and information; WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?, a screening and discussion of some short films that didn't make the Festival cut and why; and THE KEYS TO THE KINGDOM, a funding workshop led by Rory Golden of the New York Foundation of the Arts aimed at empowering filmmakers and artists in their creative pursuits.
Festival film highlights include the Portland premiere of The Adults in the Room, the first feature from Portland filmmaker Andy Blubaugh; the premiere of Lawrence Johnson's Stuff; Crossings, a short by Brian Libby, $5 Cover: Amplified Seattle, a collection of vignettes about the Seattle music scene by John Jeffcoat; Oliver Hockenull's feature length experimental work, Shot on Blood: Kozmikonic Electronica; and Dead Hooker in a Trunk, by Vancouver, BC, sisters Jen and Sylvia Soska. The full list of filmmakers is included in the attached program.

I’m a big fan of movies in general, but especially shorts, and I’d love to win tickets. I also like the Whitsell a bunch. maybe because it’s underground. maybe because it’s in the museum. maybe because it’s not at the cineplex.

I love watching the short films offered by the festival. So many fresh voices and interesting ideas in such a short time. One of my favorite movie events of the year.

Hello There! My significant other and I have been sober for a while now and as we make the transition to a healthier lifestyle we had to get rid of all of our friends and stay away from the places and activities we used to enjoy. Money is tight, but attending such an exciting event would be a welcomed pleasure, it would give us an environment to meet new friends who are a healthy influence, and it bring a little happiness to our lives during this difficult change we are making to become better people. Thank you for your time. We would greatly appreciate your consideration.

It will be so fantastic if I win tickets so I could surprise my hubby. If we don’t win we are cleaning out our garage on Saturday. So you will decide our plans for Saturday: 1. clearing out the messy garage 2. Treating us to a day out to watch short films. Did I mention we love film festivals. Pick me!!

Well…everyone here has great points BUT here is mine and I think it is pretty good. This is my 7th day in pdx. We moved from KC after selling everything and quitting our jobs. So far we love it and what better way to celebrate our first week than by going to see something that captures the unique blend that Portland offers.

I think a haiku will give you the best picture of why these tickets are so important to me:
movies tickle souls
warm red wine and a best friend
Shorts do just the same
