Portland Holiday Ale Festival
December 1-5, 2010
Pioneer Courthouse Square
Annual Holiday Ale Festival exalts the craft beers of the winter season
Despite being held outdoors during one of the coldest months of the year, more than 18,000 festival attendees stay warm and dry under clear-topped tents that cover the venue. Gas heaters create a cozy ambiance beneath the boughs of the region’s largest decorated Christmas tree. In addition to beer tasting, the festival also features on-site food, event merchandise, a coat check for charity, and seasonal background music.
Hours for the event are 2 to 10 p.m. Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. The event is for ages 21 and over.
More than 50 potent winter ales are featured at this year’s event, all of which are created specifically to bring warmth and cheer to the holiday season. These aren’t beers you’ll find in the supermarket – our brewers have put together special recipes just for the Holiday Ale Festival. From Belgians and Barleywines to Porters and Stouts, these beers are rich, robust and full of complex flavors.
To taste beer, the purchase of an entry package is required. Packages include a 2010 souvenir mug and 10 beer tickets and cost $20 in advance at www.holidayale.com or $25 at the door. Once inside, a full mug of beer costs four tickets; a four-ounce taste costs one. (A few limited release and specialty beers require two tickets for a taste.) Additional beer tickets can be purchased for $1 apiece. Previous year’s mugs will not be filled. Free re-admission is allowed all days with a wristband and the current year’s mug.
According to festival manager Preston Weesner, what makes this festival standout from other similar events is the beer selection. “We work with every brewery involved to make sure they are sending a product that has either been made specifically for this event, or is a rare or vintage beer that isn’t commonly tapped in the state. You aren’t going to come here and find a beer that you could purchase at your local supermarket.”
The beers featured are rich, robust and full of complex flavors – they range from IPAs, Belgians and Barleywines to Winter Warmers, Sour Ales and Stouts. What they all share in common is their rarity, which has solidified the event’s reputation as the premier winter beer tasting venue on the West Coast.
Designated drivers in a party of two or more may purchase a designated driver writsband for $5. Designated drivers receive complimentary root beer courtesy of Crater Lake Soda Company.
Returning to the event is the seventh annual Belgian Beer Brunch, taking place on Dec. 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the upper level of Pioneer Courthouse Square. The auxiliary event features European pastries, cured meats and artisanal cheeses to accompany an assortment of exclusive Belgian winter beers not available at the festival itself. Tickets cost $45 and are available at www.holidayale.com.
Brewing special seasonal beers predates modern history and has its origin in the pagan celebrations of winter solstice. Designed to fend off the cold of a long winter night, winter beers are traditionally complex in aroma and flavor, big in body, and high in alcohol. Thanks to an extra dose of malt, these beers are rich and bold, with chocolate, caramel or coffee flavors; others benefit from the addition of extra hops, herbs, spices and fruit.

I want Belgian beer :)
November 22, 2010 at 05:46
Rich. robust and complex are the perfect combination for the Holidays.
November 22, 2010 at 07:24
HAF is the best, Jerry, the best!
November 22, 2010 at 07:46
I love beer! I love local beer! I haven’t had the pleasure of going to any of the Portland beer fests in all the years I’ve lived here.
November 22, 2010 at 07:56
I love the Holiday Ale Festival. This is where to get some of the best beers of the year.
November 22, 2010 at 08:15
I have yet to attend a beer festival in Portland (and I’ve been here 10 years… yikes!) I’d love to make the Holiday Ale Festival my very first one!!
Many thanks!!
November 22, 2010 at 08:29
I love beer and I love Portland. What a great combo!
November 22, 2010 at 08:35
I look forward to the holiday ale test each year, and this year is no exception. I love trying rare or one off beds from all the local brewerys.
November 22, 2010 at 09:00
I have yet to attend this Ale Festival, and it sounds like the most delightful way to spend time downtown, soak in the winter sights, and be warmed by delicious drinks. I want to go! :)
November 22, 2010 at 09:01
This sounds like a great event, I’d love to try these Holiday Ales while enjoying good food and donating to charity.
November 22, 2010 at 09:05
I would love to go. My old lady never lets me attend of these kind of events since she thinks it’s a waist of my money….which of course she wants spent on her. If it was free she would totally let me attend it.
November 22, 2010 at 09:27
love love love winter beer.
November 22, 2010 at 09:30
What better way to eat, drink, and be merry this holiday season!! Would love to have the chance to taste these rare seasonal ales!!
November 22, 2010 at 09:42
The holiday ale fest is the hands down the best beer fest of the year! It’s when all the brewers bring their A-game and a lot of unique beers, some specifically brewed for the event.
November 22, 2010 at 09:47
Holiday Ale Fest is the best beer festival in the best beer city in the world. Not to be missed, plus it’s near my workplace, so I can easily attend.
November 22, 2010 at 09:47
There is nothing better than a huge selection of beers all under a big tent to keep you dry from the wind/rain/whatever. Also my boyfriend’s last class is that weekend…he needs to celebrate!
November 22, 2010 at 09:49
I have lived in Portland since 2002, but I have never attended the Holiday Ale Festival – please help me change this shameful fact!
November 22, 2010 at 09:59
I have friends coming into town from Texas just for the event. I want to show them how we do it in Portland and giving them a free package would be icing on the cake.
November 22, 2010 at 10:13
I love this event enough that I’ll go whether I win free tickets or not. I just really wouldn’t mind saving the $20. And I’ll wear a pdxpipeline shirt or something if it sweetens the deal. I will drink far, far more than my $25 worth.
November 22, 2010 at 10:17
Seasonal beers are my thing. I am always looking for new ones to look forward to the following year. Granted, winter beers aren’t my to choice, but maybe this event could see me one them.
November 22, 2010 at 10:48
i would be an excellent ambassador for this festival! i don’t get cold and i love beer!
November 22, 2010 at 10:54
This is my most favorite time of the year. Due in most part to winter beers!
November 22, 2010 at 11:14
Pick me and you will be sending an unemployed teacher and his wife! We could use the free admission to help cover the babysitter. Thanks PDX Pipeline.
November 22, 2010 at 11:15
I love attending the local beer festivals and love trying seasonal beers. Winter beers are some of my favorite!
November 22, 2010 at 11:18
I have never attended a Holiday Ale Festival before and getting in for free would make my year. This would be a great way to end a crappy year.
November 22, 2010 at 14:16
Ale yes!!
November 22, 2010 at 14:30
Because the only thing better than a holiday beer is a holiday beer in a heated tent.
November 22, 2010 at 14:51
Some of these beers (2008 and 2009 HOTD Jim) aren’t available anyplace else in the world. Another reason they call this place Beervana!
November 22, 2010 at 15:09
Pick me because last year the Lompoc Ebenezer Bourbon Ale kicked my butt after I could try more than 2 kinds of beer. Replay, saving Ebenezer for the last sip
November 22, 2010 at 16:50
Yummy yummy yummy I want ale in my tummy, ’cause it makes me feel so fii-ine!!
November 22, 2010 at 17:08
I love beer and what better way to indulge than attending the best beer celebration of the year!
November 22, 2010 at 17:37
I’d like to go to this evening because I’ve never been able to fit it into my schedule or budget in years past. Hopefully I can go this year!
November 22, 2010 at 18:52
This is my favorite beer fest in the history of ever! There is something about the crowd and the chill and the tents and the hats and scarves and the rich, dark beers that combine to make it the awesomest festive atmosphere ever. It is one of my favorite things about Portland, for real.
I also just had to get $600 in dental work so money is super tight right now.
November 22, 2010 at 19:42
This is exactly the type of event that makes Portland the beautiful place it is during the holidays. Huddled for warmth under the sparkling Christmas lights and enjoying delicious specialty beers with friends is the true winter spirit of Portland. Three cheers for free beers!
November 22, 2010 at 19:53
Went once and it was crazy crowded…long lines, would love to try it again a little earlier. Loved the tastes I got!
November 22, 2010 at 20:11
What better way to warm up this winter than with a beer festival?
November 22, 2010 at 20:12
I’ve never been to the Holiday Ale Festival.
November 22, 2010 at 22:57
This would be a real treat
November 22, 2010 at 23:14
I love ale.
November 23, 2010 at 12:37
I love the Holiday Ale fest, its all warm and cozy, socializing beer tasting!
November 23, 2010 at 13:13
Belgians are my favorite style of beer. I know I’m supposed to love IPA’s since I’m from the PNW but it’s tough to beat the sweet, smooth spices of a balanced Belgian.
November 23, 2010 at 15:06
Beer Tickets??? How can you go wrong there??? That would be FAAAAAAANTASTIC!
November 24, 2010 at 00:51
please select me as I understand, like Terry Pratchett, that there are better things in life than beer… but beer makes up for not having them.
November 24, 2010 at 10:00
I would love to win tickets! It was two years ago that a group of co-workers attended the alefest together and something *magical* happened that evening that coalesced into a lasting friendship among us. I’d now love to make it an annual tradition for our group of friends and remember that magic every year!
November 24, 2010 at 10:24
One of my favorite portland beer festivals
November 24, 2010 at 10:39
I look forward to the Holiday Ale Fest every year!!! All of that delish winter beer gives me a kickstart on developing the necessary “insulation” for the winter. I would love to win a ticket to the fest! Thank you :)
November 24, 2010 at 16:18
Being my first holiday season in Portland, and being strapped for cash in it, this would be the only way that my girlfriend and I would be able to go out and experience what I hear is one of Portland’s best holiday experiences. She loves all the local microbrews, and not so local, and I’m just starting to learn about the culture of Portland.
Please pick me for these tickets, help a new transplant get out this holiday season!
November 25, 2010 at 09:44
Holiday Ale Festival is my favorite way to kick off the holidays! Time spent with friends and beers that warm the soul. Love it!
November 25, 2010 at 13:32
mmmmm, I love me some beer. What a better way to bring in the holiday season, right! I love Portland & enjoy browsing/people watching in Pioneer Square. Rock on Portland. I would enjoy this gift very much!!
November 25, 2010 at 13:37
Wow. I love beer, but I have a friend who loves beer and could use a little holiday cheer. I would gift her.
November 25, 2010 at 14:07
What a great way to relax with my hubby before the holiday madness! Thanks for the chance to win!
November 25, 2010 at 14:21
This would be the perfect end to my first term of grad school! There is sadly, very little beer in grad school, it’s all coffee and study study study.
Bring on the wheat beer!
November 25, 2010 at 14:51
(To the tune of Happy Birthday)
Beer beer beer beer beer beer,
beer beer beer beer beer beer,
beer beer beer beer beer beer beer,
beer beer beer beer,
beer,
beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer.
November 25, 2010 at 14:53
I want tickets to this because I’ve never been before. Also, I have plans for a first date with someone around that time and I think that this would be perfect!
November 25, 2010 at 14:54
I love to try new beers!!! This would be a great thing to win!!!
November 25, 2010 at 15:06
A good, heavy drinker is the choice for me this holiday season! Hope I win!
November 25, 2010 at 15:12
I home-brew like there’s no “I” in You
I know beer like truckers know how to steer
…okay I am not going to lie. I’m not a dude who brews, though I really did try. My buddy Brian brews the beer, and has taught me the meanings of all sorts of ale. So I here I am writing a rhyme for you because an opportunity like this to give to a friend is one that I rather take than fail. It’s generous of you to put these tickets out there, and in light of all the beauty, such a gift is one that we are sure to share :)
November 25, 2010 at 15:15
I would love to have this to give to my brother, who is a beer fanatic and home brewer and who most likely cannot afford to go to this event this year. Cheers!
November 25, 2010 at 15:16
I’d love to win the package to the Holiday Ale Festival. Beer Fests in Portland are my favorite! I’ve been in withdrawl since the Brewers Fest! Nothing like getting to bundle up and drink dark winter beers!!
November 25, 2010 at 15:23
Potent potables and portable potties in Pioneer Courthouse Square? Oh my!
November 25, 2010 at 15:50
They don’t call me Duchess of Fine Ales for nothing!
November 25, 2010 at 16:07
They say winter’s going to be big this year. I say, if your winter’s big, your beer should be bigger. Winter Ales = go big or go home!
November 25, 2010 at 16:52
I’m not a fan of the summer beer fest with all the pale ales. I’m a girl that loves a dark brew, a chocolate porter or stout, or a nice nut brown. THESE are the drinks of the holiday season and it would kick the holidays off right with a little indulgence with like-minded individuals who appreciate the finer tastes.
November 25, 2010 at 16:56
Because I am currently sitting at my parents house waiting for a Thanksgiving Day dinner that is now 4 hours late. I truly believe they tricked me into this just to keep me around longer. I NEED those winter beers next weekend. I deserve those winter beers next weekend. No human should have to endure this.
November 25, 2010 at 17:10
Because?
November 25, 2010 at 17:27
Male for the ale here! Willing to accompany a fine, I mean fine! young lady to the Ale Fest! I am the Cure for what Ales you!
November 25, 2010 at 17:31
i love holiday ales!!
November 25, 2010 at 18:09
I just moved to town a few months ago, and have completely fallen in love with everything that is “Portland”. I love checking things off my Portland list: Voodoo Doughnuts, bike commuting, weekend brunches, local music shows…… I also love dark, hearty beers. I know Portland has amazing brewers, and I want to taste test as much of their work as possible to help decide the best beers to keep warm during the cold Northwest winter months!
November 25, 2010 at 18:45
sounds like a ton of fun
November 25, 2010 at 19:23
This sounds like a one day trip to Ale University! Not only could I get schooled in a variety of fine artisan potent potables, but I could de-stress and keep my promise to a good friend who insists I just don’t drink nearly enough for my level of moderate psychosis. Seems as though this could be the ticket to save me from my totalitarian teetotaling self.
November 25, 2010 at 19:53
I want to go because this sounds awesome!
November 25, 2010 at 19:59
This is my favorite festival that comes to Portland all year! I love how beautiful the city looks all decorated for the Holiday season and that there is a chill in the air. What better way to warm up then with some mead and finely crafted beers and ales? :)
November 25, 2010 at 20:06
I love Portland’s selections of breweries and beers, and I love trying all of the new ones. I have never been to this before and if I won tickets to this it would make it so that I could take my husband for our 9th anniversary that weekend!
November 25, 2010 at 20:16
This is the best beerfest with such intense, flavorful beers with true fans – if you start early enough. I can’t wait to be part of it!
November 25, 2010 at 20:21
Of course I want to go. It’s one of those events I always say I should go but never get to. The entry fee always prevents me from trying it out. Would like the opportunity.
November 25, 2010 at 20:57
Woo hoo! Brrrrrr Woo hoo!
November 25, 2010 at 20:57
In the words of Benjamin Franklin “Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.”
I concure and therefore would LOVE to attend :)
CHEERS!
November 25, 2010 at 21:00
I want to try some new beers. …. Pick me!
November 25, 2010 at 21:02
Wanna support local brewers and drink some wonderful Holiday ales!
November 25, 2010 at 21:13
TWO Reasons: I just got into liking beer, especially sour beer and I’m sure there will be some sour beers. I like ANYTHING Belgian apparently, fries, chocolates, dogs (as pets, of course! ;) ) and beer, so I should go, really.
November 25, 2010 at 21:22
I’ve never gone to anything like this before and it sounds like so much fun. I hope I win.
November 25, 2010 at 21:41
I’ll see you there.
November 25, 2010 at 22:04
Ale in the City…What fun!
November 25, 2010 at 22:06
I’d like to go because I LOVE beer and I’ve never been to the Holiday Ale fest. Pleeease?
November 25, 2010 at 22:49
I’m French and living in Portland for one year – I’d like to know what the fuss is all about with these winter ales! Are they really better than mulled wine???
Why don’t you show a snobby French person what Portland’s all about….. by giving me a ticket!
November 25, 2010 at 23:56
I have been told that this is the best holiday event in Portland. I hope I win tickets!
November 26, 2010 at 00:47
My friends and I require the higher alcohol content of winter ales to act as antifreeze ;^)
November 26, 2010 at 00:56
What a great way to meet some new friends with something in common right off the bat…
Would love to find some cool people to meet up & tag along with at this event. Let’s do the brunch???? Anyone?
November 26, 2010 at 06:35
Though I don’t believe in Jesus, nor the great fuss about Christmas (shopping, spending money, buying cards, shopping… shopping etc) I do believe in a God because who else would bless us with the miracle of fermentation?!
BEER IS PROOF GOD LOVES US!
November 26, 2010 at 08:15
50 winter ales.
All brought to one place for me.
Efficiently done.
November 26, 2010 at 08:32
This seems like the logical next step to follow up my attendance of the nano fest a couple months ago… though it would sincerely help supplement all the cash money I spend on local beer with a little holiday giveaway! The winter months represent my most beloved time frame of the bock clock. Hook a sista up!
November 26, 2010 at 08:39
I want to go because it’s my birthday on the 3rd
November 26, 2010 at 08:42
So many great beers in one place.
November 26, 2010 at 09:01
I work in a pub and only drink IPAs. I want to expand my beer knowledge and tastes!
November 26, 2010 at 09:13
Reasons why I would like the tickets
1. I like beer
2. I like festivals
3. I’m poor
4. I am doing some major sneaky planing for my partner that weekend and would love to be able to take him as part of the adventure goodness
5. I’m a poor social worker which means that:
5a. I can’t afford to do fun stuff
5b. Beer and the like help me to cope with what I see and deal with at work every day
6. I think it’d be fun
November 26, 2010 at 09:26
Beer. . . . is there anything you can’t do?
November 26, 2010 at 10:29
This is my favorite brewfest of the year! I have volunteered a few times but didn’t get around to signing up on time this round. However, I did mysteriously manage to accidentally sign up my boyfriend and have also talked him into wearing a full body bear costume during his shift. You are all welcome for this gift. Feel free to return the favor.
November 26, 2010 at 10:39
Because beer is research and I need to buckle down! This festival particularly always has the most complex and wondeful offerings! One gets swept away and forgets that its just right in the middle of town. Love to!
November 26, 2010 at 10:40
My ol man is a true redneck and loves only pbr, he needs to expand his horizons, and I want to help him.
November 26, 2010 at 10:58
I have to work the last 2 years and have been uable to attend. Finally the work gods have smiled down and said “Drink, be merry, and enjoy some cold dark beer with your friends.”
November 26, 2010 at 11:26
I just had a baby a month ago and my girlfriend wont let me drink in the house. I need to go to this festival!!!
November 26, 2010 at 11:32
Nothing says “festive” like a warm beer belly.
November 26, 2010 at 12:02
I just moved back to Beervana 2 weeks ago and have missed the great beer festivals here. I still do not have a job yet and a free beer festival would really hit the spot(and save on the ‘ol dwindling savings account, as well.) go beer!
November 26, 2010 at 12:12
My sister-in-law is turning 21 that weekend and we want to take her to the Holiday Ale Festival for a true Portland celebration!
November 26, 2010 at 12:21
I wouldn’t LIKE to attend the Beer Festival; I WILL attend, so there’s no sense addressing the motivation. I would LIKE to be able to drop the $25 dollars I save into the tip jars of the barkeeps, though. As a tip-reliant beer pourer myself, I’d like to have a bit extra to give back this Holiday season.
November 26, 2010 at 13:07
I’m taking a break from an all-day iCarly marathon on Nickelodeon to type this. Clearly I need this more than anyone.
November 26, 2010 at 14:16
This is giving me warm fuzzies already!
November 26, 2010 at 14:16
This is one of my favorite beer fests in Portland! Winter beers are just delicious…
November 26, 2010 at 14:17
I’ve never been but have been getting into the beerfests this past year. Would love to go!

My husband broke his femur over Memorial Day weekend, while riding ATV’s in the Tillamook forest. 2 surgeries, a rod in his femur, and three screws later and he is still healing. Last weekend, he was the passenger in a car accident and his head smashed the windshield. He got 7 stitches and a concussion. My poor husband really needs a good evening out with some delicious beers. Help make his holiday less stressful!!
November 26, 2010 at 14:37
This is my favorite beerfest of the year! I only wish that finlas would be over by then so that I could enjoy it a little more :)
November 26, 2010 at 15:05
pdxpipeline kicks butt as always.
i want this!
beer is good, free is better.
November 26, 2010 at 16:29
This sounds fantastic and yummy. Seasonal ales are delicious! I’ve never been to a holiday specialty ale festival before and this could be my ticket.
November 26, 2010 at 19:49
Winter ales are my favorite and I love to sample and purchase as many as I can during the holiday season. They are great! I would love to go to this! Thanks for the opportunity
November 26, 2010 at 19:51
There can never be too many beer festivals and a seasonal beer festival sounds amazing. What a great way to fight the winter blues. I would love to win this one.
November 27, 2010 at 09:17
Beer, beer, Beer. I support beer.
November 27, 2010 at 10:42
I wanna go as this is my favorite favorite favorite beer season. Keep your fresh hopped yadda yadda and you herbed spring so and so.
November 27, 2010 at 12:13
I want to attend the Ale Fest because it’s a fun, festive, event. And it’s held in Portland’s living room with a beautiful tree!
November 27, 2010 at 14:07
I think Plato says it best: “”He was a wise man who invented beer.” This sounds like an amazing event in a beautiful location!
November 27, 2010 at 15:20
I was unable to attend the festival last year due to living out of state. Now that I am back in Portland, I would love to go! Thanks!
November 27, 2010 at 19:06
because I just scrolled through 119 comments on my phone
November 27, 2010 at 22:46
I love winter beer! Each year my husband and I look forward to the new winter beers to hit the stores with child like anticipation. Beer is a passion we both share and would love tickets to make our holiday budget stretch a little farther!
November 27, 2010 at 22:52
Beer and beards! I would like my beard to have more beer please.
November 28, 2010 at 04:51
Thought I was allergic to hops, just finished some allergy tests that disproved this. Hallelujah!

I love beer!
November 28, 2010 at 09:12
I love the brew fest and would like to introduce some of my new-to-Portland friends to the event.
November 28, 2010 at 09:24
Do people actually ever win these things? Where does it get posted? Would love to win this one!

I would love to win these tickets! I have a friend from Sweden coming to see me (and meet me for the very first time) the weekend of December 3 and it would be so much fun to share the microbrew culture of Portland with him.
I’ve been unemployed for over a year and just don’t have the money to go otherwise. I’ve even managed to arrange for some respite care for my special-needs grandson so that I am available to go if I miraculously win.
November 28, 2010 at 15:21
I want me some of that Jubilee!! I plan on meeting me a mate at this years festival!
November 28, 2010 at 16:08
Holiday Ale Fest is my favorite beer festival. Gathered to celebrate the goodness of dark winter beers, the festival draws thousands from all diversities throughout Portland and unites them in the holiday spirit. Looking forward to the fest!

November 28, 2010 at 22:02
I don’t have a sad story but I have a great appreciation for beer.
November 28, 2010 at 22:22
I would love to try micro brews for the first time! Everybody says I should but they are so damn spendy! Please PDX will you help me break my microbrew cherry??
November 29, 2010 at 08:40
I need to go to the ale festival again because, even though I’m sure I’ve been before, I can’t seem to remember. Please help me refresh my memory!
November 29, 2010 at 08:59
Can I please have tickets to the Holiday Ale Festival this year? I’ve been a good girl (most of the time) and I know I (probably) deserve to go enjoy some delicious Ale under the tree in Portland’s living room. Thank you. I didn’t even whine this time. I don’t even want wine. I want Ale.
November 29, 2010 at 11:04
The Holiday Ale Festival is where my (now) husband and I declared to one another that we were ready to move our relationship from ‘just friends’ to ‘something more’. We will be celebrating eight years since that event and would very much like to relive that memorable evening!
November 29, 2010 at 12:17
Because it’s like Oktoberfest all over again :)
November 29, 2010 at 15:11
I would love to join the festivities & drink fabulous dark beer! ps we may even show in elf costumes, santas heplers are thirsty ones :)
November 29, 2010 at 17:51
I just moved to the Pacific Northwest! All the new beers are amazing! This would be a great event to welcome my palate to Oregon:)
November 29, 2010 at 18:51
Portland beer is world famous!
November 30, 2010 at 08:42
My girlfriend and I have attended almost every beer fest in town. But this is the one we always seem to miss. I’d love to go. Thanks.
November 30, 2010 at 09:04
As a beer drinking biker enjoying the wet weather in lovely Portland, I believe that a few strong ales would definitely warm my soul as well as my extremities. Gobble Gobble!
November 30, 2010 at 09:10
I first attended the Holiday Ale Festival in 2006. It keeps getting bigger and better (I’m getting thirsty just thinking about it). A free entry this year would make a great Channukah present. L’chaim!
November 30, 2010 at 10:20
Not attending the holiday ale festival would be like letting the terrorists win. I don’t want the terrorists to win.
November 30, 2010 at 10:30
My husband really loves sour beers and darker beers, and this is his favorite Portland beer festival. However, I’m about to be laid off, so I’m nervous about spending money on going. If awarded the package, he still gets to go, and I’ll have a happier Christmas!
November 30, 2010 at 12:30
This sounds like a great event, I’ve never been to a beer festival in PDX and would really like to go! Thanks!

Oh yes please! My cousin will be in town from LA and I would love to remind her why Portland is so much better (she used to live here and work at Roots brewery but left us all for LA) Help me convince her to move back!!!
November 30, 2010 at 14:24
I love craft brews and winter beers are my favorite. I was also just laid off before thanksgiving so the price is a bit steep for me, but I really want to go to this. This is part of why I live in Portland!
November 30, 2010 at 14:32
I can haz beeeerrrrr pleez
November 30, 2010 at 14:49
Because I need this!!!
November 30, 2010 at 14:56
I love beer, dark ales most especially. That is the best reason for me to get free passes to the festival, but along with that come three needs-based reasons.
I’m an indebted graduate student and I’m working as an AmeriCorps VISTA (a federal volunteer with a living stipend of only $822 a month while serving our country). Lastly, I’m also a budding writer struggling to create quality stories for no money. Let me follow the path of those before me and drown my artists sorrows in the bottom of a glass, but let it be a sample glass of fine Cascadian Brews.
November 30, 2010 at 15:08
This is my favorite beet gathering of the year, but I’ve spent all my dough on family and friends christmas gifts!! PLEASE PRESENT ME WITH THE TICKETS :)
November 30, 2010 at 15:23
One of my top five favorite Portland events! Help an exceptionally fiscally challenged individual drink her fill of delicious, delicious beverages (especially the Sang Noir!) for a healthy dose of holiday karma.
November 30, 2010 at 15:24
I’ve never been to it before; it would be great to check it out :)
November 30, 2010 at 15:34
“I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer.”
-Abraham Lincoln
Truer words were never spoken, and better beer has never been made then the ones they make for the winter festival. If I win, I’ll drink to keeping PDX safe from more imaginary terrorists.
November 30, 2010 at 16:57
20,000 guests
50 potent winter ales
Do not try them all
November 30, 2010 at 21:11
Pick me because I like to drink my dinner!
December 1, 2010 at 06:30
This is the best beer fest in Portland- and the one I look forward to the most. Instead of 50 IPAs, you have deliciously dark porters, superb stouts, and sours that make your lips sting.
December 1, 2010 at 06:49
I loves the Holiday Ale… It would warm up my weekend!
December 1, 2010 at 07:43
BEER, I heard? i’m in!
December 1, 2010 at 10:27
I LOVE beer and especially BEERFESTS!!!! I really want to go! If I get chosen to win the free entry, I will dress festively….. Please oh Please!
December 1, 2010 at 10:30
Because it isn’t the holidays without enjoying some of Oregon’s finest to keep me toasty!!!
December 1, 2010 at 11:33
I’ll be honest – I would love to win this package because the Holiday Ale Festival is becoming more and more expensive every year. Not to be a Grinch, but it shouldn’t cost $50 for two people to get in and taste this wonderful beer!
December 1, 2010 at 12:30
My husband is a huge fan of this festival, and I would like to surprise him by winning these tickets. Thanks!
December 1, 2010 at 14:56
I am a struggling grad student and my boyfriend just recently changed jobs so our Christmas budget is pretty tight. Not only that, but my birthday was over Thanksgiving break and it too was affected by our minimal funds. We were planning on spending (the little) money we have on gifts for family so a free package to the festival would make a super date night/Christmas gift we could give to ourselves without feeling guilty about spending money on us. We both love all of the local breweries and would absolutely adore a chance to attend the Holiday Ale Festival!
December 1, 2010 at 17:54
I am a HUGE supporter of Portland beer. Unfortunately, I am a recent college grad that still hasn’t found a job, so I can’t justify spending this much money on a delightful ale fest. BUT I promise to try each and every seasonal winter beer made in Oregon if you give me this prize!!
December 1, 2010 at 18:52
I love love love looooovvvveeeeee beer :) love beer.
December 1, 2010 at 22:58
Oh on a wild chance of getting that last ticket…
December 2, 2010 at 11:55
Yes to holiday ale fest! It’s going to be a blast. I can’t wait to try all the local seaonal brews!!
December 2, 2010 at 11:58
My cousin and I get together for this every year as a family tradition, as we are the only ones from our larger extended family who are out here Portland. Nothing brings family together like beer.
December 2, 2010 at 13:20
I am new to Portland and this will be my first time to Holiday Ale Fest! Going with my friends tomorrow night to enjoy some tasty holiday brews! Looking forward to a fun night~
December 2, 2010 at 14:35
I’d like to attend because my mother is visiting this week from a state that is beer deprived. Hey, she flew thousands of miles to be here! Let her have real brew before she must return to her ale desert.
December 2, 2010 at 14:37
I’m hosting two travelers from Germany and meeting two more from South America and all deserve to have a wonderful night of beer, specifically Ale, drinking in PDX. Sadly, the $25 is quiet the hurdle and I cannot pop for all of them. German’s and the world at large need to understand the dominance and beauty that is PDX ale! Please help me fund tonight’s adventure! I guarantee will bring the party Oktoberfest style!
December 2, 2010 at 16:40
I wanna win so I can drink with my beautiful cousin while the hubby’s attending the Apple Cup without me!
December 2, 2010 at 17:10
You should gift me those tickets because it would help me get laid :P
December 2, 2010 at 17:11
I want to spend the weekend nuzzled up with my husband and some fine beers. It would be an added bonus if we were able to enjoy the festivities for free!!!
December 2, 2010 at 19:35
My boyfriend and I moved here a little over a year ago and haven’t had a chance to go to many of the beer festivals. This would be an awesome chance for us to get more acquainted with some yummy beer! Plus we’ve both been a little under the weather and would like to get out there and meet some new people. Thank you so much!
November 17, 2011 at 08:24
Each year, my husband, our closest friends and I, count down the days. In the summer we all dream about this event. In the Fall the boys make winter warmers in anticipation of this event. It sure would be warm and snuggly if we got some free tickets! Then we could spend more on beer, cheese, and nuts!
November 18, 2011 at 16:19
I’ve been to the Holiday Alefest three times in a row… but have absolutley no memeory of it what-so-ever. Please help me create a holiday alefest experience I’ll remember!
November 21, 2011 at 20:52
My favorite beer festival of the year. Pick me and I’ll Occupy the square better than anyone.
November 24, 2011 at 16:28
I’ve always been stuck at home finishing report cards while friends were tasting beer. This year, the grades are done! Plus we live downtown, so I can bring my non-drinking wife as a designated walker!
November 30, 2011 at 13:20
Trying to keep my title as the ‘best girlfriend ever’ while unemployed!
November 30, 2011 at 15:54
I will need to R and R after finishing my report cards for my kiddos :) Sour Beers are my new favorite!
December 1, 2011 at 19:23
