Portland's Pigeons are a new favorite, and their recently released self-titled debut album is just a glimpse at all the musical wonder they have to offer. 27-year-old Seattleite Christopher Mansfield is Fences, a folk-troubadour whose punk aesthetic is a surprising but perfect veil for emotionally revealing songs that rim with melancholy. His new self-titled debut cd, produced by Sara Quin (of famed duo Tegan and Sara), is rimming with promise, full of songs that read like a diary we wish we had all written. His songwriting is simple and elegant, his voice hushed and brooding.
