St. John's Winter Fest
St. Johns Main Street Plaza
(located on the corner of N. Lombard & N. Philadelphia)
December 5th, 2010 10 am to 10 pm
Historic St. Johns offers an escape from the ordinary with Winter Fest, a Dickens of an Affair. On December 5, 2010 events planned will circle around the return of the Christmas tree in the Plaza. This celebration of young and old will mix a fabulous 25 foot Victorian Decked Living Christmas tree with handmade ornaments and garland. The Highlight of the day will be the tree lighting in the plaza. Taking place at 3:30pm, Mayor Sam Adams will do the honors. Moonstruck Chocolates will be handing out their prized truffles, and giving you the opportunity to travel through downtown and find the moonstruck stars for a chance to enter to win a private tour of the chocolate factory, a prize you cannot buy.
For the neighbors, this prize carries the same mystique as Willie Wonka's factory and the desire to peak inside.
Winter Fest is packed with dozens of Dickens inspired events, breakfast with Santa at McMenamins, a five course Dickens inspired dinner at James John Café, Trunk shows in various shops like the Salty Teacup and at the North End Gallery the focus will be an auctioned art show showcasing unique artists. But don't count out the Bachelors club who have donned their own twist and threaten to Scrooge the fest.
Dressing up in period clothing they will be our tour guides they may point the way to the Farmers Market, tucked into safe and warm spaces for the Winter Fest. Writer Devon Monk will be sharing her Steam punk point of view with a reading at the St. Johns Booksellers at 2pm. So put on your top hats, stroll through the winding lane of downtown and plan on shopping and dining. Or make your own steampunk inspired hats at Patties Home Plate, where authentic watch gears and costumes can be found. If you miss Santa in the morning he will be at Grammy & Nonna's Toy Store from 11-2.
Why a Dickens Winter Fest? St. Johns Main Street wanted to celebrate the unique character blossoming in this neighborhood.
Industrial, Victorian Artistry and Historically pertinent. After last year's Holiday Event which brought back a tree to the plaza, the merchants and neighbors wanted to do more to further showcase the unique neighborhood and be given a chance to invite travelers near and far to the first neighborhood of Portland.
If you fall in love with St. Johns, you can move your business here. St. Johns Main Street coalition proudly presents, "Open Spaces" an opportunity to tour the available properties on St. Johns Main Street. There will be a property owner representative at each location. Please pick up a map in the plaza. 12-4pm during Winter Fest.
Brought to you by St. John's Main Street Coalition, and the great people of St. Johns.
