About Charlie Hunter (www.charliehunter.com)
“…a man who has built his badass reputation by conquering hairy bass lines and heady post-bop melodies simultaneously on custom eight-string instruments… Hunter is still a musical beast.” ~Guitar Player
Jazz guitarist Charlie Hunter joins us for an intimate performance, celebrating the recent release of Public Domain, a collection of 7-string guitar songs that are all public domain (free and available to the public) and chosen by his grandfather, who was born in 1911. Hunter is known for his technical mastery, and it shows in his covers of vintage classics such as "Meet Me In St. Louis" and "Ain't We Got Fun."
Recorded with just a few microphones, a guitar amp, and a bass amp, the album is heartfelt, and a platform for the common thread of his influences: blues, groove, and soul.

I’ve been digging this 9 string guitar playin fellow since his days with TJ Kirk. I’d love to see him at such a wonderful sounding venue as Mississippi Studios! And it’s in my old hood, and it’d be nice to return in a blaze of glory.

Saw Charlie Hunter trio at the Aladdin a few years back. Their music was so insanely intense and soulful that I SWEAR I saw the music. I also swear that I was stone cold sober at the time, but was tripping on their jazz. It would so appreciate PDX Pipeline to provide me with the gift of Charlie Hunter live this season of giving! Christmas Cheers!
