Widely regarded as one of the most innovative and genre-bending artists of his craft, Barnes' musical interests are both varied and adventurous, and he incorporates that versatility into a progressive approach to an instrument that is musically polarizing and steeped in tradition.
Although he demonstrates an appreciation for the history of the bluegrass, country, and folk music from which the banjo's reputation was born, his inventive take is what truly separates him from his contemporaries…using the banjo as his ‘weapon of choice' to play non-traditional music like rock, fusion, and jazz with electronic
Tonight he is backed by The Piano Throwers (Tye North, Scott Pemberton, Carlton Jackson) for two barn-burning sets. Acoustic soul/folk/bluegrass troubadours, Sugarcane, kick the night off with an early set!

Because I once saw him play an Earl Scruggs/Black Sabbath medley with no backup band and it was fantastic

Danny Barnes is a visionary madman.
Piano Throwers are not exactly chopped liver.
Sugarcane brings it!
What else can I say, but PLEASE!

Great to see Danny back playing with Calton and Tye. They used to play together alot in the in the 2003 at the Bitterend. GLad to see it is at the Goodfoot with a great sound for a local club. I got to go!!

Danny Barnes is the man. As a bluegrass fan, I appreciate his clawhammer banjo playing, but the “Barnjo” is also a fantastic instrument. We typically attend all of Barnes’ Portland shows, which are always good, but always better when there is some clawhammer action. The Goodfoot is OKAY, but I recommend everyone brings a flask of firewater.

I was intoduced to DB at String Summit 9 years ago. His music is not only unique but up-lifting. He never ceases to amaze me with the progression of his bluegrass, groove, and house style. Way to go Danny. I loved the laptop mix you performed with Keller several years back. Knocked my socks off. Totally boogie music. YOU ROCK….
