2011 looks like the year for Philly's Phunkestra with their first full length release just months away and a Live Album and DVD recording next week it seems there will be plenty of Phunk to go around.
Tuesday February 22nd will mark the evening that Philly's Phunkestra blows the roof off Mississippi Studios for their Live album and DVD recording in partnership with the 2011 PDX Jazzfest. With so many Jazzfest events in the city it's hard to choose who to see but the Phunkestra has proven that the energy at a Phunkestra show is hard to beat and having shared the stage with some of their influences like Questlove (The Roots), The Wailers, Rebirth Brass Band, Dumpstaphunk, B*Side Players and Mr. Lif you know they will bring the heavy hitting, booty shakin, tender loving care your body deserves!
Philly (Chris Phillips) from Philly's Phunkestra had this to say about what the Phunkestra has been up to this year so far:
"With as much material as we have been writing it made it really hard to choose what would go on the studio release. That's when I thought it would be a really cool idea to record a live album and release it along side the studio album. All the shows we played in 2010 were special to us and we want to bring that energy into Mississippi Studios and get it on the tracks. That is always something I think can't be replicated in the studio and number one reason why we are so excited for this show.”
After putting out a limited run self released EP "Philly's Phunkestra" they are taking a step towards the future and getting excited about things to come. Make sure you stay tuned for the official release date for the full length LP but until then grab a ticket to this coming Tues Feb 22nd show at Mississippi Studios and be a part of the live album!

Got to get out of the Funk. After attending a funeral, my return home was postponed 38 hours and have been stranded in a motel room in Montana due to the weather, have been locked out of my rental car, locked out of my motel room, eating cold pizza and drinking luke-warm motel- lobby farmers brothers coffee. Portland please take me back tomorrow!
