Portland Urban Iditarod Highlights

Its nearly spring, and with it comes the Portland Urban Iditarod.
This is a great video shot by Brewcaster a couple years back. Registration for this year’s race filled up in 13 minutes, but below you will find a list of vantage points to catch the race. Many people will be participating and following who did not register as always.

In the Alaskan Iditarod, more than sixty dog sled teams race across the frozen tundra from Anchorage to Nome. In our urban version, teams of ‘dogs’ lead by a musher will pull their sleds (shopping carts) through some of Portland’s most scenic areas. These teams of barking humans must negotiate through the unrelenting and unforgiving dangers of Portland’s urban frontier.
As an incentive to run, dogs and mushers alike will have several ‘rest stops’ to replenish lost fluids and discuss tales of mayhem. The course is over four miles, so dogs and mushers alike need to be ready and able to run their tails off.
The best places to glimpse this year’s race are:
12:15 p.m. West end of the Burnside Bridge on the Westbound sidewalk
1:30 p.m. Saturday Market at Waterfront Park
2:15 p.m. Waterfront Park under the Hawthorne Bridge
