The Ventures are an American instrumental rock band formed in 1958 in Tacoma, Washington. The band, formed by Don Wilson and Bob Bogle, two masonry workers, has had an enduring impact on the development of music worldwide, having sold over 120 million records, and are to date the best-selling instrumental band of all time. In 2008, the Ventures were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The Ventures’ music has been cited by many guitarists as an influence; their virtuosity, experimentation with guitar effects, and unique sound laid the groundwork for innumerable groups, earning them the moniker “The Band that Launched a Thousand Bands.” They have also contributed to the surf music genre, though they are not, as popularly perceived, strictly a surf band. Though their popularity in the United States waned in the 1970s, the group remains revered in Japan, where they still tour regularly to this day.

May 3, 2011 at 16:56
I’ve loved these guys since I was nine and my brother bought the Hawaii Five-O 45. I’ve got tons of surf and instro tunes in my collection, but The Ventures are always number one.
May 3, 2011 at 17:20
My dad would play them on every year on the summer road trip. Every time the end of the school year comes around now, it is The Ventures time.

I’m so excited to hear that The Ventures are playing in Portland! I’ve waited a lifetime (literally) in hopes that they’d play together once again. I’ve grown up listening to their music as it became part of the social consciousness of those of us on the West Coast (and beyond). I’m eager to dance my booty off, and help to keep the sound of Surf alive!

Holy tidal wave PDX Pipeline! Love The Ventures as much as soda pops and ponytails! Dreamy!
May 5, 2011 at 14:29
The Ventures will always remind me of my father, a past DJ and his eclectic musical tastes. Many a day on our way to the beach we’d be blasting their music.
May 5, 2011 at 14:30
That’d be Fantastic! I’d love to win this prize!!!
May 5, 2011 at 14:38

May 5, 2011 at 15:10
I love the ventures
May 5, 2011 at 15:46
I want to see a piece of rock and roll history!
May 5, 2011 at 16:04
This would make a sweet graduation gift for my 17 year old soon-to-be high school graduate, who regularly complains that there aren’t many quality all-age concerts. He deserves it for washing some of the dishes some of the time, and using the old fashioned push mower right before the lawn need to be macheted. Plus, at least this way I would actually know where he was and what he was doing one night of the week. A great ad-Venture for a great kid and his girlfriend.
May 5, 2011 at 16:14
Because I’d like to hear an instrumental version of ‘Freebird’ when I yell it out.
May 5, 2011 at 16:15
Holy crap, Batman!
Winning free tickets or not, I will be there. I made it to Dick Dale. I made it to Link Wray. I thought I’d missed out on The Ventures and I was a sad man.
May 5, 2011 at 17:10
The venture’s Christmas record is my favorite seasonal record. I need to go. You need to help me to go.
May 5, 2011 at 17:13
Free is good.
May 5, 2011 at 18:08
The Lord of Hellfire commands you to “Burn”, or you could just relinquish a couple of tickets for two mortal souls to attend…
May 5, 2011 at 18:14
I would love to slip back in time with a sweet tune named “Apache”.
May 5, 2011 at 19:26
My dad loved the ventures when he was little and he got me into them too. I haven’t seen him in a while and this would be a perfect surprise gift for him..
May 5, 2011 at 21:05
I grew up with my older siblings rockin’ out to the Ventures!
Me, too!!!
May 6, 2011 at 08:57
I would Venture to guess that nearly everyone that plays guitar owes a tip of the hat to the band that made it big despite being from Tacoma, Wa. Out of work and no money to spend, this would be a wonderful Birthday present for the love of my life…Please?
May 6, 2011 at 11:29
Whaaat? This sounds awesome. I’d love to check it out!
May 6, 2011 at 12:25
I’d love to win tickets! Xoxoxo
May 6, 2011 at 13:26

May 6, 2011 at 19:37
Oh, OOOOO! I L-O-V-E, LOVE The Ventures! Pick me! Pick me!
May 6, 2011 at 21:47
I’ve loved the Ventures since I was wee,
One of those bands I’ve yet to see.
But I really can’t go,
so low on dough-
Unless I win tickets
from the Pipeline Show!
May 7, 2011 at 10:24
Hoping for a win! Please.

May 9, 2011 at 10:50
I run a free health clinic on Thursday nights. May 12th is the only Thursday night I’m going to have off this year and what are the odds — the Ventures are have a concert here in Portland!? I love them and this would be the perfect way to celebrate my one and only free Thursday!
May 9, 2011 at 11:01
Sounds like a hootinannie :) I wanna play
May 9, 2011 at 16:05
I want to do something special with my boyfriend, who is a huge Nokie Edwards fan. He recently told me a great story, about his dad playing drums with Nokie a few years back. At the end of the set Nokie says to his pa, “Good job kid!” and walks off stage. I just love it. Think this would be a real fun time for us.
May 9, 2011 at 22:16
I’ve been a fan for years. Even had a Mosrite guitar. Nothing compares to surf music. I hope it makes a big comeback.
May 11, 2011 at 16:36
Back when The Ventures and The Beatles were new, my brother and I debated who would be huge. I chose The Beatles and he chose The Ventures. Now we are both right!
