Over the course of his ten-year career, Iron & Wine’s Sam Beam has become one of today’s greatest story tellers, crafting meticulous tales full of forlorn love, religious imagery and wistful dreams.
While Beam’s early albums were sparse, intimate solo affairs, Shepherd’s introduced layered textures and poly-rhythmic sounds that allowed his lyrics to spring to life. It’s only natural then, that Beam took this sonic collage and built upon it for his new album, Kiss Each Other Clean. The result is a brighter, more focused record that retains the idiosyncratic elements that make Iron & Wine such an engaging band.

I want to win because Sam Beam is awesome.
May 25, 2011 at 16:48
I’ve been too strapped, but would LOVE to go to see Sam, + Marketa Irglova’s singing backup, + The Head and the Heart. Did I mention LOVE?
May 25, 2011 at 16:49
I want to go because I have coined the term for his music, along with folks like Elliot Smith: whispercore. Also because I just found out he’s playing. How did I miss that? Oh, also because I’m saying pleasebabypleasebabybabybabypleasebaby.
May 25, 2011 at 16:55
Big fan, have been for quite a while, would love to make this show. Think I’ll put them on right now.
May 25, 2011 at 17:14
Love Iron and Wine. I would really like to see Sam Beam and band. I think he is an outstanding musician!
May 25, 2011 at 18:28
I would like to go because I’ve been playing Iron & Wine a lot on my radio show, and jam out to them every Friday morning. If I could jam out to them live, well now that would just be awesome.
May 25, 2011 at 18:31
Oh and The Head and The Heart such a great band and an amazing show. If I could see them one more time that would be amazing, I’d get to see two of my favorite bands I have been playing during my radio show.
May 25, 2011 at 19:04
I’d like to win because I tried buying tickets and it fooled me by not saying Sold Out, then I clicked to Buy and it said “No Inventory”. So sad! Also I will drive all the way from Seattle because The Head & the Heart are AMAZING live and Iron & Wine is fantastic!
May 25, 2011 at 19:09
I love Iron & Wine!! I would be so grateful for an opportunity to see them live.
May 25, 2011 at 21:31
Iron & Wine is one of my all time favorites. Also, I’ve been listening to “Rivers and Roads” pretty much nonstop ever since discovering The Head and the Heart a month or so ago, and I’d love the chance to see them live!
May 26, 2011 at 07:46
I sadly only got into Iron & Wine this winter and now I can’t get enough of them. Seriously, there have been weeks when I’ve listened to them exclusively. When I realized they were coming to town it was already too late! Sold out, on no! I would love to win, please and thanks.
May 26, 2011 at 08:46
I love him!
May 26, 2011 at 11:07
Iron & Wine is hands down one my favorite artists. One of the best songwriters of the 2000′s, and I haven’t gotten to see him live yet!
May 26, 2011 at 11:08
I’d love to surprise my wife with a special night.
May 26, 2011 at 11:19
Iron & Wine is the Bees Knees!!! What a wonderful way to spend an evening :)

I would definitely appreciate the experience! Pretty please Pipeline!
May 26, 2011 at 11:53
I’d go to such great heights to see this!
May 26, 2011 at 12:09
Who wouldn’t want to win free tickets to go see iron and wine!! I think that would be powerful enough to open up the clouds and let beams of sunshine fall over my house!
May 26, 2011 at 12:43
I’ll skip work if I can go see these guys!
May 26, 2011 at 13:03
Such Great Heights was our wedding song!
May 26, 2011 at 13:05
My sister is flying into town and loves this band. It would be a great surprise!
May 26, 2011 at 13:15
I would like to go to Iron and Wine for free so that I may share the loveliness with a friend who deserves to have something nice done for them. And, I’m having major surgery two days after. I’d love to have Sam’s voice seared into my brain as I go under anesthesia. please and thank you!
May 26, 2011 at 13:19
I sadly only just found Iron & Wine this winter. Now I can’t get enough of them and have had weeks I’ve listened to them exclusively. Love love love them! And another sadly, once I realized they would be in town, it was too late! Sold out, on no! Would love to win tickets, please and thank you.
May 26, 2011 at 13:54
Jim Beam is teaching me how to play the piano right now. It would be great to see him in person. :-)
May 26, 2011 at 13:56
I would LOVE to have the chance to see Iron & Wine on Tuesday. I absolutely love the new album and think it would be amazing to surprise my wife with tickets. Heard a bit from the Head and the Heart too and they sound great also! Needless to say, it would absolutely be the highlight of my concert going so far this year.
May 26, 2011 at 15:04
I’m low on both Iron and Wine, so this would be quite a boost for me!
May 26, 2011 at 15:59
I need these tix because it will be grrrreat way to celebrate my lady love and I’s enGAYgment!
May 26, 2011 at 16:00
I only know the studio music but I bet this will be an awesome stage show. And I happen to have iron in my knee and wine in my hand.
May 26, 2011 at 16:19
Such Great Heights is one of my favorite car songs.
May 26, 2011 at 16:27

May 26, 2011 at 16:47
We played one of Sam Beam’s songs for our wedding. I would love to surprise the wife with a couple of tickets to a sold out show!
May 26, 2011 at 16:49
Would love to go!!!! Was going to buy tickets but it’s freaking sold out… So this is my last hope. Please pick me. Been a fan for a long time and haven’t had a chance to see him.
May 26, 2011 at 16:53
I’d like to go because I’ve been an Iron & Wine fan for several years, and they’re sold out! I’ve never before had the chance to see them.
May 26, 2011 at 16:54
I want to go because I have never had the privilege of seeing Iron & Wine play live!
May 26, 2011 at 16:56
Portland doesn’t have enough all age events that rock a 17 year old’s world. Maybe before I turn 18 on the 10th, I can score some free tickets to one that certainly will.
I hope my ironic whine will get my girlfriend and I into the show.
May 26, 2011 at 17:05
You probably shouldn’t award me with such a prize, as I might have a heart attack amidst my enthusiasm… but you know, for Iron & Wine I’m willing to take that risk.
May 26, 2011 at 17:14
This will be a fantastic show. I would love to go!
May 26, 2011 at 17:23
I started listening to them in college and havent stopped. Seeing them live for the first time at my favorite venue in town would be so exciting!
May 26, 2011 at 17:24
Is that a peacock?
May 26, 2011 at 17:25
I would absolutely love to see Iron & Wine in concert live. They bring so much peace to my soul!
May 26, 2011 at 17:29
I was introduced to Iron & Wine by a friend about 5 years ago but have only really gotten to listen to its music. They’re awesome and I would love to see them live!
May 26, 2011 at 17:35
My soul is at rest listening to Iron & Wine. Tickets had already sold out when i learned that they (he) was coming to town. Sad sad day…..
May 26, 2011 at 18:05
Please give me the tickets so I can teach my wife the difference between Iron & Wine and iron & whine.
May 26, 2011 at 18:39
I want to win because Sam Beam has a great beard which I’m sure is the secret to his amazing singing voice.
May 26, 2011 at 19:02
I am a giant fan of Iron & Wine, and am unfortunately serving with AmeriCorps and thus have no extra cash to go around after rent + loan payments. Getting a night out, especially a night such as this, would be an extraordinary treat.
May 26, 2011 at 19:17
I would love to go to this show! I love love love Iron & Wine and have been a frickin’ student for 5 years and can never afford to do anything. Plus it’s been a shitty week so it’d be awesome to blow off some steam. =)
May 26, 2011 at 19:27
Iron&Wine reminds me of someone I want to be close to again. Maybe this will be a step toward that vision.
May 26, 2011 at 19:37
I would love nothing more!
May 26, 2011 at 20:11
Cinder and smoke
You’ll ask me to pray for rain
With ash in your mouth
You’ll ask it to burn again
my best friend is leaving town for the summer/ cinder and smoke was the song that came on after the first fight we ever had as friends and made us see we were actually in love.
Id love to be able to take him to this show-
please.
thank you,
H.
May 26, 2011 at 21:43
I love both of these bands SO much! What a treat it would be to see them both at one the best Portland venues EVER! Oh, please pick me, pick me.
May 26, 2011 at 21:49
I LUUUUUUUUUUUV Iron & Wine! Sam Beam is an incredible poet and songwriter and I would gladly give some internal organs or rights to my first-born for a chance to see him perform live.
May 26, 2011 at 22:25
i wanna see iron and wine live.
May 26, 2011 at 22:44
My husband and I met in Portland on Mt. Hood (on Palmer Glacier, and now my married last name is Palmer- weird!) We fell in love on Mount Hood, and then I went back to LA and he stayed in PDX. I made him a DVD of photos from our time in Portland to the song “Such Great Heights.” It became our song, and we danced to it at our wedding 2 years later. It would be very special for us to attend this concert, plus we have a toddler so a parent’s night out is very rare and very, very exciting :)
May 26, 2011 at 23:06
I would love to go because Iron & Wine is awesome!! And I don’t know The Head and The Heart, but they sound cool.
May 26, 2011 at 23:14
I would LOVE to see Iron and Wine live. The Head and The Heart are great too- So it sounds like it will be an awesome show!!
May 26, 2011 at 23:54
Stuck at home working through Monday while all my buddies are camping in Bend this weekend. Knowing I had Iron and Wine to look forward to would totally get me through the long shifts. Plus Sam is someone I’ll still be listening to when I’m 64.
May 26, 2011 at 23:56
Words to live by and contemplate.
May 27, 2011 at 00:20
This would be an amazing show to go to!
May 27, 2011 at 00:40
Spine-tingling soul caressing loveliness….and to experience it live!! Yes, please!
May 27, 2011 at 00:47
i’m number 53
on this lovely list
so please (please) pick me
for a fitting twist
for it isn’t something
i’d ordinarily do
throwing iron and wine
in head and heart stew
May 27, 2011 at 01:40
I would really love to see Iron & Wine, and I haven’t gotten to see a show at the Crystal in almost two years now. This would be so perfect.
May 27, 2011 at 06:20
I have a guest from out of town and would like to show him Portland style……Iron & Wine are one of the best….
May 27, 2011 at 08:33
I too have been having a lot of wistful dreams of late. Please oh please let me enjoy this wonderful show! I could use some real enjoyment and not just dreams!
May 27, 2011 at 08:34
I want to hear Sam’s whispery voice sing to me! Would love to win these for my sweetie’s birthday.
May 27, 2011 at 09:08
Iron & Wine helped to soothe me through a horrible break up.
May 27, 2011 at 09:10
I’m a big fan and I’d love to be at the show.
May 27, 2011 at 11:09
This show sold out before I even heard about it! I am a new fan and my boyfriend has loved Iron and Wine for many years, so I would love to be able to take him… can’t think of a more romantic and sweet show to see together!
May 27, 2011 at 11:58
I love both of these bands, but I hate capitalism. So my crippling state of poverty is really a form of protest. If I don’t win tickets, I’m going to see if I can get into the show by bartering with Sam for a free professional beard shave.
May 27, 2011 at 13:12
Such Great Heights was on the cover of our wedding invitation and their version is our song. My most wonderful other half has no idea they are here. It would be the best gift ever to surprise her with tickets.
May 27, 2011 at 13:33
Wow, if I could count the reasons why I would like to win…let’s just start with “Rabbit Will Run” and Sam Beam’s beard…
May 27, 2011 at 13:46
I would like to win because I don’t have plans that night. Plus I just made tres leches cake and would share.
May 27, 2011 at 13:50
I would love to see Iron & Wine because Sam Beam has been there for me through many pivotal moments in my life.
From my first love to high school prom to the first day of college, Iron & Wine has been there for me.
Fast forward to now…I just graduated from the University of Portland, I just turned 22, and I am getting my very first apartment downtown.
I would love to see Iron & Wine for the first time live to mark these pivotal changes in my life! It would be so wonderful!
May 27, 2011 at 16:10
I would like to win, but I don’t have any good reason why I should. I’m spoiled.
May 27, 2011 at 16:58
Here I sit to write a comment.
It’s not just me that wants tix to the concert.
Woe are we that shell out the dough
To see iron and wine, dohhhhhhh!!!!
May 27, 2011 at 19:30

Would enjoy this show
May 29, 2011 at 11:52
I love Iron and Wine AND have recently become a big fan of The Head and The Heart, their sound is fantastic! (Pick me, please.)
May 29, 2011 at 11:55
because i would be the coolest step mom ever to take my step daughter to the show, even cooler if i gave her and her friend the tickets but of course i would i have to drive them and then wait and… since i have all the albums, and really enjoy the music i might just settle for being cool vs cooler.
May 29, 2011 at 12:30
need it, need it, need it!
May 29, 2011 at 15:48
Because I listened to a darn song of his a while back and I could never find it again.
May 29, 2011 at 19:05
would love love love to see Iron and Wine Live!
May 30, 2011 at 00:33
I have NEVER been in town when Iron & Wine comes to town. It’s ridiculous! I don’t know how I missed out on buying these tickets before they sold out but I would TRUELY love to go
May 30, 2011 at 12:27
I have not been to a show in ages for financial reasons and the thought of seeing Iron and Wine is almost enough to make up for not getting to Sasquatch.
May 30, 2011 at 12:44
good stuff – even better if I could win tickets and go. ;)
May 30, 2011 at 15:38
Is it too late?!?! I would love to go and see this live event. I have not seen anything like this since moving to PDX! THANKS
May 30, 2011 at 18:43
