North American Organic Brewers Festival to serve up more than 50 organic beers, cider and kombucha at the nation's most earth-friendly beer festival.
With a motto to ¬Å“Drink Organic, Save the Planet, One Beer at a Time,¬Â the North American Organic Brewers Festival will host its seventh annual event June 24 through 26 at Portland's Overlook Park. More than 18,000 beer lovers are expected to gather at the event, billed as the nation's most earth-friendly beer festival.
Designed to raise awareness about organic beer and sustainable living, the NAOBF serves up more than 50 organic beers from 34 different breweries around the nation. There's also an organic cider and an organic kombucha. Styles run the gamut from Belgian Whites to Cascadian Darks, offering something for every palate.
There's also live local music, organic food, sustainability-oriented vendors and non-profits, a soda garden with complimentary Crater Lake Root Beer for minors and designated drivers, and a children's area. The NAOBF is a family friendly event, and minors are welcome with parents.
Festival attendees sample beer from reusable and compostable cornstarch glasses made from domestically grown corn by a zero-waste, solar-powered company. Onsite composting and recycling stations are provided for festival waste and are supervised by recycling czars. Food vendors are required to use compostable cutlery and plates and employ sustainable practices. Electricity needs are met with a combination of biodiesel and solar generators. Volunteers wear organic cotton and hemp t-shirts, and all event signage is reusable.
Event hours are Noon to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and Noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission into the event is free. The purchase of a $6 reusable, compostable cornstarch glass is required for tasting beer, as are tokens, which sell for $1 apiece. A full glass of beer or cider costs four tokens and a four-ounce taste costs one token; select beers cost double tokens. Patrons receive a $1 discount toward the tasting glass with a validated MAX ticket, a ticket from the onsite bike corral, or three cans of food for the Oregon Food Bank. The festival benefits the Leukemia Lymphoma Society and the Oregon Food Bank.
Why an organic beer festival? Studies show that the world's population currently consumes 30% more natural resources than the Earth's ecosystems can replenish. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, commercial agriculture is accountable for 70% of the pollution in our country's rivers and streams. Genetically modified ingredients can be found in nearly every grocery store. The NAOBF believes that education and exposure leads to awareness, and awareness can translate to passion. If everyone becomes passionate about sustainability, as a whole we can make the planet a cleaner and healthier place for all of us to habitat. If the conversation starts with an organic beer, that's even better!

Two tickets would be excellent! Didn’t really like beer until we moved here six years ago, and now I’m ready to venture into brews that take conscientious crafting to the umpteenth level.

I think I should attend because (1) the local beer scene is tasty, (2) organic is the way to go, (3) the organic beer fest is a thousand times better and more pleasant to attend than the big beer fest on the waterfront, and (4) i have a sexy partner who not only thinks those three things as well but looks especially great while sipping beers and basking in sunshine.

This is the perfect kick off to “beer festival season”, and it would be nice to save up some money for the other ones in July!
I think I should attend because I’m a beer snob! There. I said it! Whew.
I should go for one simple reason, for a reason that cannot be trifled with. All other reasons are secondary to this one. It’s like an epiphany every time I think it, say it, believe it. A reason so simple it’s complex. And so complex it is simple. The singular most complete and perfect reason from me to go is,
I was born to drink good beer.
(And so was the person that ends up going with me. Born to drink good beer that is. You know what I’m saying. What am I saying? Oh yes, BEER!!!!!!)
I would be very excited to win. Beer itself is exciting, but I love that this is so earth friendly. The garbage and waste at these festivals is always a bummer. Hopefully this kind of thinking will catch on.
I had reserved this day to stand against injustice, fight ecological destruction, and drink beer. And then I saw this event. I can do all three. Hell yes.

Why do i think i should attend? Because i just got back from two months in New York City drinking overpriced beer that didn’t come close to quality the micros and crafts in the PacNW. I have a lot unsatisfactory beer to make up for. That, and it would be ideal to have a member of #beergang there. I am a member of #beergang. It’s a lifestyle.

This fest might just have to take over as my favorite of the many Portland Fests. My wife and I our expecting our first child in July. And i have always respected how family friendly the NAOBF has been. Now we will get to enjoy that aspect of the fest as well!

This is my all time favorite beer festival. I love the beers/music & running around overlook park barefoot.

I think I should win these tickets simply for the amount of money I have spent my entire legal life contributing to the sale of purely organic beer. I refuse to save a buck on a cheap case of High Life or Bud. I will put up that extra bit of rent money for a good, well brewed beer from an organic brewery that deserves such profit from sales and recognition.

I would love to attend the Organic Brewers festival because out of all the beer festivals I’ve ever been to, this is the absolute best. The best beer, best food, best entertainment, the crowd maintains itself to a fun, but chill atmosphere. It’s the perfect way to spend an afternoon. I also adore North Portland and Overlook Park provides the perfect setting. Besides, making organic beer is a practice this area has embraced and excelled at and I think more people should support it. Whether or not I win is irrelevant–we’re all winners when it comes to an organic brew fest.

I hate beer. It gives me headaches and makes me feel full.
