Portland's gigantic annual bike festival Pedalpalooza has entered its second weekend! There are currently over 270 events on the website and probably around a hundred for just this weekend. We went through and found many that look to be good, well attended, or should be interesting. If we missed yours, just comment the info below.

Friday Portland Bike/ Pedalpalooza Events, June 17
Breakfast on The Bridges @ Steel & Hawthorne Bridges (east side of the steel ped bridge, west side of the westbound hawthorne sidewalk, 7:15am – 9:15am): enjoy free commute fuel: breakfast foods and coffee with your faithful shifty bridge-based breakfast purveyors!
OMSI Science Ride @ OMSI, 1945 SE Water Ave (Meet just north of omsi in the parking lot by the river, 12:00pm, Gather at noon, we ride at 12:30): Our ride will start at noon at OMSI with some sciency fun while we wait for everyone to gather. Our meeting spot is in the parking lot behind the PEPCO building. This is the white building just north of OMSI. If you’re riding along the esplanade you’ll see us and we’ll put up some signs to help. We’ll hit the road around 12:30 for a casual ride with some science stops along the way. We’ll make a loop and return to omsi and take a behind the scenes tour of our exhibit-building workshop. Then we’ll make some liquid nitrogen ice cream, and have at least one big explosion.
Riot GRRRL Ride @ Star E. Rose Cafe (2403 NE Alberta St, 5:30pm – 7:30pm): Bike Revolution Girl Style Now! Explore Riot Grrrl’s legacy in Portland. Wear your best ripped fishnets, bring a white t-shirt and we’ll bring the sharpies. Slow pace, not a loop.
Bikes, Beer, Bocce, Balloons, & Bingo Ride @ Laurelhurst Park (3700 SE Ankeny St, SE corner near the tennis courts, 5:30pm – 8:30pm): An epic roving 2-person team tourney of arbitrary theme, with prizes of unimaginable (sentimental) value. Spots limited – please RSVP in advance as a team or individual by emailing the organizers at bbbbbb_pdx[at]hotmail.com.
Skate Critical Mass @ Ankeny Fountain (Bikepath & Bikepath, 6:00pm): Take the lane on roller skates, skateboard, scooter, or fruit boots! Join us and some of the Rose City Rollers as we skate around town.
Glitter Magic Dress-Up Rainbow Lover @ WTF Bikes (1114 SE Clay St, 6:00pm): Pretend you’re a 5-year-old girl. You have a huge trunk full of dress-up clothes. Tutus, princess dresses, fairy wings, wigs, tiaras… Put on your dress-up clothes and streamers and come ride around town with us until we are tired and bored and need liquor. Tequila!
Demo Derby @ SE Stark St and 13th Ave (Meet on the steps on the north side, 6:00pm): Once known as the sport of tsars, demolition derby was the province of Russian nobility during the pre-Revolutionary era. After the disposal of bourgeoisie customs in the hectic months following the October revolution, demo derby was not seen for decades until resurfacing in the American heartland. Come participate in this ancient and revered sporting event at Washington High School. Rules will be announced prior to the start. BYOB – however you take it. Possible after-event: “how to repair badly damaged bicycles to get home”
Dirty Diablo’s Wild Ride @ Devil’s Point (5305 SE Foster Rd, 8:00pm): Wild Devilish Delights! Come Run with the Devil y’all! FREAK OUT! Rockin’ tunes, lights, dancing & adult related stops. I ruptured my Achilles [at] Lit & Loud last year but the next day I still held this ride! (We were a few hours late waiting for the cast to dry;). Bring Lights! Wear Protection! Ride at own risk! Not a loop/will go late. But if it rains ride WILL be postponed.
Dropout Bike Club Prom Ride @ Col. Summers Park (SE 20th Ave and Belmont St at pavilion, 9:00pm – 3:00am, We ride at 10ish): The Dropout Bike Club’s monthly social ride. This month we are excited to host a wonderful Prom ride again! Photo booth, vegan party punch, and Prom dance party til late with live performances by Ilima & the Sexbots, The Wrong Kind, Lamplight, Crank My Chain, and more TBA! Over the past 6 years, this ride has become the place to show off your newest bicycle oddities and party with the core of bike fun movement. ThunderTwins Sound Collective will be there bumpin with the new Tall Tour Sound system. All bikes welcome, pace is set by freak bikes and under 4 miles. Ride rain or shine
Space Ranger Bike-In-Movie: An American Astronaut @ 4611 SE 64th Ave (just south of Foster Rd, 9:00pm, Dance and Costume Contests; 10:00 Film Screening or when it’s dark enough) Bike-in movie screening of the cult classic space-western/musical, AN AMERICAN ASTRONAUT, by Cory McAbee. Includes a dance contest, best SPACE RANGER/ INTERPLANETARY DERELICT costume contest (9PM) and, of course, a toilet stall photo booth. Bring cozy blankets and pillows for your bikes to lie on while they watch the 90 min movie… We’ll start the movie at 10PM (or when it’s dark enough). Blueberry Pirate themed snacks are encouraged.
Masquerade Costume Ride and Dance Party @ Theoria Gallery (1212 N Killingsworth St, between Interstate and I-5 on Killingsworth, 10:00pm): Start at Theoria Gallery dressed to impress in your secret-disguise costume, follow the pink-butt gorilla to a mysterious location for a dancceee party in a tree house

Portland Saturday Bike/ Pedalpalooza Events, June 18
7A+ RIDE @ Peninsula Park (650 N Ainsworth, gazebo, 11:00am – 3:00pm, meet 11 / depart 11:30): An Awesome Architecture–Airport Arboretum–Ah-mah-zing Apparel Adventure, PLUS cruise an off-road bikeway, bike a dyke on the slough, and cross two super bridges! Bring picnicky food if you like (arboretum has picnic tables and we’ll be hungry) and some dinero if you plan to do more than window-shopping at the MLK Fashion Plaza. Looping ride; leisurely pace.
Rocky Butte Ride and Service Project @ Oregon Bike Shop (418 SE 81st Ave, 81st and Stark, 12:00pm, Leave OBS at 12:00, duration will depend on the group.): We will be meeting in front of Oregon Bike Shop and ride out to Rocky Butte and clean up some garbage for a couple of hours, then ride around and explore what the Butte has to offer. This is part of a continuing project, to raise awareness of the Rocky Butte natural area and the potential for urban recreational possibilities that exist out there.
Kidical Mass PDX: Pedalpalooza Hoedown @ Overlook City Park (N Fremont St and Interstate Ave, Meet near the playground, 1:45pm – 4:15pm, Meet at 1:45, ride at 2, should be back by 4-ish.): Kidical Mass’s monthly ride will take us in a 3-mile loop, and in the middle, we’ll meet up with Portland’s own Professor Banjo calling a wild & crazy family square dance in a top-secret location, just for us! Bring treats & sweets to share, and come ready to dance! Kids must wear helmets. We ride slow enough for little ones, but kids should be able to stay on the right side of the road, follow verbal instructions & stop at stop signs.
Star Wars vs Star Trek Ride @ Director Park (SW Yamhill St and 6th Ave, Portland, Look for your kind, 2:00pm, It will end before start of World Naked): In a quadrant far, far away, where stars and bicycles collide, come be a part of the greatest battle this side of the outer rim. Are you a stormtrooper, or a redshirt? Do you pledge to the Federation, or to the Empire? Does your bike travel in hyperspace, or warp speed? Put on your best space garb, shine up your two-wheeled spacecraft, and blast your way through Portland on the nerdiest ride of Pedalpalooza.
Mel Blanc Tour @ Lair Hill Park (SW 2nd Ave and Woods St, Meet us inside the park, 3:00pm): Mel Blanc, “Man of 1,000 voices,” best known as the voice of Bugs Bunny and a host of some of the most popular Looney Tunes voices and personalities, grew up and developed some of his memorable voices right here in Portland! Join historian Dennis Nyback (collector of rare, forbidden and forgotten films and fascinating morsels of Portland history) on a tour of Mel’s Portland. Be prepared to discover some quirky facts of Portland in the late 1920s and early 1930s! Stop by the Oregon Jewish Museum or join us at one of the Mel Blanc Project Lectures this month to learn more about this legend.
Portlandia Ride @ Lovejoy Fountain (222 SW Harrison St, 3:45pm): We go back in history to find out how it all started, stop at landmarks large and small; And throw in some interesting tidbits.
Roman Patio Pedal @ The Green Dragon (928 SE 9th Ave, Portland, Out on the patio, of course, 4:00pm, We’ll go until it’s time to hit WNBR, or you’re finished): We had fun last year-Let’s do it again! Assemble your toga, gladiator gear, centurion armor or whatever Roman and join us for a leisurely ride bar patio to bar patio. On arrival, the patio will be transformed by our presence into a Roman Villa. With Beer! Gladiatorial Combat? Chariot Races? Could be! Or not. But drinks and Roman debauchery are guaranteed. Maps provided at first bar. Then we’ll head to the WNBR and off go the togas! Bring cash for the bars
Portland Naked Bike Ride @ SE Water Ave and Salmon St (Gather at 9, Ride at 10pm): A light-hearted protest against fossil fuel. A demonstration that any body can ride a bike and have fun doing it. A comment on the vulnerability of cyclists. Choose your message, ride with us! As bare as you dare.
World Clothed Bike Ride @ Vera Katz Statue (SE Eastbank Esplanade and Main St, 9:00pm): (First Annual) World Clothed Bike Ride! Sometimes “as naked as you wanna be” is everything covered but your face. Now there’s a ride and party for the rest of us! Woot!
World Naked Bike Ride After Party @ BridgePort Brewing (SE 2nd & MLK Blvd, Under the Hawthorne Bridge, 11:30pm – 2:00am): Official After-Party for WNBR featuring suds on tab from BridgePort Brewing, Music from DJ Gulls, Food from Koi Fusion, Garden State & Whiffies. Our friends at the city fo Portland have been kind enough to let us close down a major streetto party but have asked that all attendees wear bottoms. Just bottoms. No shirt? No problem.
World Naked Bike Ride BYOB All Night Dance Party @ Salmon and the Eastbank Esplanade (Salmon and the Eastbank Esplanade, 11:30pm – 7:30am): Since the other afterparty options might leave something to be desired (put clothes back on!?!?, lack of capacity? expensive drinks…) North Freak and the Dropouts (organizers of two of the biggest parties of pedalpalooza, prom ride and loud and lit) are teaming up to put on an afterparty in the spirit of the WNBR. Free. Open to all. Dance it up! BYOB! We will have booming sound systems, and a beautiful, scenic, secluded outdoor location. It will go untill the sun rises. All are welcome (except creeps!). Wear as much or as little as you like. Bring your own beverages of choice.
World Naked Bike Ride Unofficial After-Party @ Crystal Ballroom (1332 W Burnside St, Bike parking along Burnside and 14th overpass, 10:30pm – 2:30am): Crystal Ballroom–Lola’s Room. Large indoor capacity, opening at 10:30pm exclusively for WNBR riders. Clothing optional/naked-friendly. DJ Jason Wann, DJ Rhienna, DJF. Free. 21+ with ID. Bike parking along Burnside and 14th overpass. Enter through Lola’s room; depending on occupancy, may flood into Crystal Ballroom when at capacity. Big sweaty dance party.

Sunday Portland Bike/ Pedalpalooza Events, June 19
PDX Bridges @ Grand Central Bakery (714 N Fremont St, 8:45am): We will visit all ten Portland Bridges. I will tell you about their history, what is special about them and throw in some other tidbits. Ride ends in the Pearl for lunch. So bring a few squid. Meet before the time to carb up with goods if you like. We roll after the caffeine kicks in.
Pretty Panty Ride Five @ Esther Short Park (600 SW Columbia St, Meet Under Clock Tower, 11:00am – 1:00pm): The 5th annual ride through Vancouver to visit public art while dressing in our prettiest panties. Not comfortable sporting them on your body then dress up your bicycle. We arrive at 11, assure that all are properly adorned and then ride about the town. Bring money if you would like to eat lunch at the Farmer’s Market after. Helmets required.
Annual Crash Ride Pride Bike Ride @ the Pride Parade (NW 14th Ave & W Burnside St, meet at 14th on the edge of the park on the north side of burnside. wear rainbows, 11:15am – 1:45pm): The parade is organic so we are done whenever we want to be. 11:30 am the Pride Parade will kick off. And we want you to be there in all your glory to contest the corporate dominance and unreasonable entry fees for “our” Pride march… meet at 14th on the edge of the park on the north side of burnside. Since this has no leader make sure you wear lots of rainbows so we can pick each other out of the crowd.
Fallout Shelter II @ Lloyd Center (NE Multnomah St and 9th Ave, The fountain at the Lloyd Center entrance at NE Multnomah and 9th streetview: http://bit.ly/dAXX7P, 12:00pm – 2:30pm, Give or take): Now with more cultural relevance! A tour of the forgotten and unusual fallout shelters in Portland, OR. We’ll ride to different and unexpected cold war hideouts, exploring and learning along the way. This year’s ride will feature new and different locations, and I’ve finally unearthed the master list! Easy pace, but a fair bit of riding, so eat your Wheaties. Splash Dance Six @ Salmon Street Springs Fountain (SW Naito Pkwy & Salmon St in waterfront park, 2:00pm, We’ll ride until the music box runs out of juice!): Bikes, water, and shaking your booty! We’ll ride, dance, and splash in water fountains all over town with our sound system in tow! Dress for a dance party – a wet one! Squirt guns encouraged.
Homemeade Ice Creamery Tour @ Laurelhurst Park (3700 SE Ankeny St, Meet in grassy field at NW corner of the pond, near the bathrooms, 2:30pm): Come ride with us and enjoy some of Portland’s best homemade ice creameries. This will be a leisurely ride with a handful of stops, where we will sample some of the finest frozen desserts in town. Those opposed to dairy are still welcome as many of our stops offer non-dairy options. Although this is family friendly, parents please be sure your child is comfortable riding on city streets. Bring your favorite spoon and cash for easy transactions. This ride is not a loop and will be 7-10 miles.
Have More Bike Tango Fun @ NW 11th Ave and Johnson (Jamison Square, 3:00pm – 7:00pm, We’ll depart Jamison Park between 3:10-3:20.): Summer, biking, tango. Experience all three. We’ll bike to some very beautiful outdoor locations and dance tango in the open air of summer on a portable dance floor. The ride will end at Peninsula Park for the first “Tango in the Park” of 2011. A tango lessons for beginning tango dancers at the first stop. More info to come!
Unicorns Unite @ Laurelhurst Park (3700 SE Ankeny St, by the pond, 3:00pm): This is a call for all unicorns in the City of Portland to gather together at our enchanted watering hole–the pond in Laurelhurst Park. Not everyone can see us since we are magical beings, but we will be able to see each other. We will go on an adventure westward…over the river and up the hills to a beautiful grove in the Hoyt Arboretum. Please bring a picnic snack to enjoy in the forest before we part ways.
The Winged Ride @ Col. Summers City Park (SE 20th Ave and Belmont St, 4:00pm – 6:00pm): We will be riding around and making various stops for 2 hours. After the ride we will stop at a bar. Let us take flight – on bikes! Come out and meet us wearing wings of any sort. Butterfly wings, feathered wings, bat-wings, shirts/bare-backs with wings drawn on, any other kind of wings are encouraged. Please take care to make sure you are able to ride/manage on your bike while wearing your wings in advance. This ride is going to be colorful, beautiful and fun! Children are welcome…but we are ending the ride at a bar so they won’t be able to stay for drinks at the end. ;)Looking forward to taking flight with all of you guys.
Art By Bike: Street Art Shootout @ Holladay Park (NE 11th Ave and Holladay St, 5:00pm): On this ride we are going to have a shoot out visiting street art around the inner city. THREE RULES TO CONSIDER: 1. Bring your iPhone’s, iPod Touches, Android Phones, iPads, Go Pros and any device that is capable of instant gratification – meaning have a device that can show your creations on the spot. 2. Have an idea where some neat street art is that we can turn into Art Work and be prepared to share it with us. 3. Come with a fun and creative attitude. The idea on this ride is to ride all over the inner city finding art and capturing it with our devices and showing it.
Find That Dinosaur @ BIKEASAURUS (1337 SE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, 6:00pm): Meet at BIKEASAURUS for a super fun race around inner SE to find dinosaur street art! Teams/individuals will be supplied with a map to lead them toward 12 species of dinosaurs hidden around town. It’ll be a race to see who can find their dinos first! Prizes for the winners and consolation prizes for anyone who participates.
