Tim Minchin is an Australian, musician, actor, comedian and writer. He has been performing his unique brand of musical comedy in front of appropriately excitable and ever growing audiences since 2005. He won the Director's Award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival for his break-out show Darkside, and followed this later the same year with one of the most successful debut acts ever at the Edinburgh Fringe - winning the Perrier Award forBest Newcomer. Without wanting to go on and on about it, he's done some pretty successful live shows since then, often in Australia or the UK, but also on the North American continent (yes that includes you too Canada). But not you Guatemala. Maybe one day.
His current songs span topics such as environmentalism, rationalism, prejudice(ism) and his amour de boobs(ism). In fact it would hardly be over the top to say that his love of boobs would be up there in the back of Plato's cave in the bit that's carved out for the most perfect and complete example of the love of boobs. But not in a weird way. During his shows he plays the piano, always nicely and oftentimes wildly and excitingly, while looking wonderfully athletic, in a pair of delightfully uncomfortable skinny jeans.
Tim has made many TV appearances: in January 2011, he appeared on US TV for the first time on Conan. He also narrated Shaun Tan's Oscar winning film The Lost Thing, an animated 15 minute short, based on the children's book of the same name. Tim spent 2010 writing the music and lyrics for the musical Matilda with the Royal Shakespeare Company. Tim also embarked on his first Arena tour of the UK, joined by the 55-piece Heritage Orchestra and a band, in December 2010. He took the show to Australia, in early 2011, performing with symphony orchestras all over the country and has now returned to the UK for some more arena dates, with the Heritage Orchestra in April and May 2011, including two dates at The Royal Albert Hall. May and June sees Tim cross the Atlantic a few times for shows in the United States.

I want to win because I’m a fellow ginger=)

I play the piano, but am not very funny. He is funny while playing the piano– I might learn something. Choose me.

I want to attend but will be working. Actually I’m responding in the hopes I can win tickets for a dear friend of mine who loves Minchin’s comedy with a passion and is having a hell of a time lately with just about everything, and needs just this sort of pick me up.

I think this would be a memorable show!

On October 7th, 1975 Tim Minchin and I were born. We grew up on opposite sides of the planet, but I think that being “birthday buddies” is part of what makes our sense of hunours so compatible. I get Tim in a way I’ve never connected with another comedian. I would absolutely love to spend a night listening to Tim sing. He’s a total crack up and a kindred spirit…in a non-creepy way, haha.
June 16, 2011 at 13:24
Huh, I thought I was a weird tight-pants clad comedian railing about prejudice and boobs… guess those are hot topics.
June 16, 2011 at 13:39
Damn. I thought this was the Munchkins performing.

I lost my job and have few resources. My sister’s birthday is coming up and this would be a perfect outing for the two of us. For Christmas I had won tickets to Santaland Diaries and was not able to attend with her because I was in the hospital; she went with the Evil Sister. I really need karma to throw me a bone at this point.

If I didn’t have you, Tim Minchin, at night…. I’d probably… have to watch Jay Leno instead. [shudder]

This sounds like an amazing show! I’ll love to go!

Tim Minchin is very funny, we saw him at Sasquatch, minus some jetlag, seeing him was one of the highlights, him and Reggie Watts are awesome comedians, with very unique acts.

I want to win because my man and I love this guy, he’s funny as hell! Also, it’s the day after our anniversary, and it’d be a nice treat.
June 16, 2011 at 16:33
Super smart, wicked funny, musically talented.. what more could you ask for? Please pick me :D
June 16, 2011 at 17:05
I *love* stand-up comedy and this sounds like a great act to catch! :-)
June 16, 2011 at 17:12
Tim sounds to be a creative downunder phenom. I would love the inspiration and another excuse to laugh long and out loud. It’s always a good time to be had at the Aladdin.
June 16, 2011 at 18:01
I’ve heard some really great things about Minchin from friends (who are already going) and I’d really like to experience his show live.
June 16, 2011 at 18:32
Because I need something to laugh at.
June 16, 2011 at 18:49

First time at Aladdin Theater AND to see Tim Minchin! Can you get much better than that?! This would be amazing!
June 18, 2011 at 19:39
I want to win because this is my daughter’s favorite comedian, and it would be fun to take her to see him.
June 20, 2011 at 12:49
I just very recently discovered Tim and low and behold, he’s playing locally! I would love to see him live!
June 20, 2011 at 17:44
Agh, probably too late for this competition, but I’d love to see Tim perform. His “Storm” is a modern classic among the skeptical community, and Tim is an icon of snark and devilish wit – but with the style of a rogue with leprechauns for fingers!
I hope his visit magically transforms Portland into rational-thinking capitol of the world.
