Northeast Portland’s 2011 Good In The (Neighbor)Hood Multicultural Music & Food Festival & Parade

The 19th Annual Good in the Hood festival kicks off this evening in Northeast Portland at the Kennedy School. The larger parts of the festival occur this weekend with a parade on Saturday and festival on Saturday and Sunday. The Fest is all free and open to the public. The festival grows every year and last year/2010, an estimated 7,500 people attended the festival.

Thousands of community residents will celebrate diversity, culture, and family unity during the 19th Annual Good in the Neighborhood Multicultural Music and Food Festival. The festival will feature some of the Northwest's finest entertainers such as The Linda Hornbuckle Band, Patrick Lamb, Ocean 503, The Erotic City Prince Tribute Band, and more. Each year, thousands of Oregon and Washington residents attend the festival, which began in 1992 as an outreach effort to showcase the Northeast Portland community. Ethnic cuisine, marketplace, food, and info vendors will be an additional highlight. The festival is FREE and open to the public.
A kick-off will start this years Festival on Monday, June 20, 6 to 10pm at the McMenamins Kennedy School. It will feature great food, dancing and live music with Soul Vaccination, gospel comedy by Mary ¬Å“Liz¬Â Paige, and the Master of Ceremony Baruti Artharee.
On Saturday, June 25th, thousands will march along Northeast Portland streets as part of the annual Good in the Hood Parade. The 2011 Grand Marshal is Paul Knauls, Jr. At King School Park the festival will be held from noon to 9:30p.m. on Saturday, June 25 and from noon to 7:30p.m. Sunday, June 26 located in the 4800 block of Northeast 6th Avenue. On Friday, June 24, we will host Good Neighbor Night, a Red Carpet Event from 6pm to 9pm at the King School Park. Live music, courtyard food, and sponsor recognitions will set the tone for Friday evening. McMenamins fine wines will be featured in the Beer & Wine Garden. Live music will be provided by N'Touch, with special performances by Saeeda Wright and Abduel Hall.
