24th Annual Oregon Brewers Festival
Nearly 80,000 beer lovers from around the world will flock to the 24th annual Oregon Brewers Festival, one of the nation’s longest running and best loved craft beer festivals. The fun takes place July 28-31 at Tom McCall Waterfront Park. With a laid back attitude and sampling of 86 different beers (plus another 30 in the Buzz Tent), the festival reflects the essence of the city of Portland.
The festival’s focus is craft beer, but there’s more than sampling involved. The event features live music all four days, beer-related vendors, beer memorabilia displays, beer writers and publishers, homebrewing demonstrations, and an assortment of foods. The Crater Lake Root Beer Garden offers complimentary handcrafted root beer for minors and designated drivers. Minors are always welcome at the festival when accompanied by a parent. The Oregon Brewers Festival strongly encourages responsible drinking, and urges patrons to take advantage of the MAX Light Rail line, located just one block west of the festival on SW Oak Street, or its free, on-site bicycle parking.
Taps are open from Noon to 9 pm Thurs through Sat and Noon to 7 pm Sunday. Token & mug sales close one-half hour prior to the taps shutting off. Admission into the festival grounds is free. In order to consume beer, purchase of a 2011 souvenir mug is required and costs $6. Mugs from previous years will not be filled. Beer is purchased with wooden tokens. Tokens cost $1 apiece. Patrons pay four tokens for a full mug of beer, or one token for a taste.

I’ve yet to attend ANY Brewers Fest! Pathetic, I know… but that doesn’t mean I don’t have a love for the brew! I’m returning home from Northeastern Washington right before the fest, where I will be imbibing on some of that regions best: Northern Ales (Kettle Falls) and Lost Falls (Colville)! Oregon Brewers Festival is a annual event for several people in my office. We leave work early on Thursday and enjoy the evening on the waterfront with some really good beer. I would love to share this package with the friend who originally introduced me to this event 4 years ago. What a great tradition.

I grew a sweet Handlebar Moustache just for the Brewfest, so the tasty beers will linger in the stache. I always support the least favorite beers at the Fest, because I hate lines and having an empty beer mug… Lastly, when everyone starts chanting I raise my mug to sky and howl, while encouraging others to do the same.

I’m Irish and in order to dispel the myth circurlating through Europe that American beer is crap I think I need to go on a fact finding mission to discover the delicious offerings of the pacific northwest.

My employers have recently cut my hours to halftime, only 20 hours per week and my boyfriend has been on unemployment for months. We had to miss the Winter Ale Fest, Spring Beer and Wine Fest, Organic Beer Fest and we’ll be missing the International Beer Fest in the North Park Blocks this weekend all because we need to pay the rent and eat. It would be great to win a beer package for the mother of all Portland beer fests, The Oregon Brewers Festival. Otherwise, 2011 will go down in our memories as the year without any beer fests. :(

Last time I attended, a few years ago, I was just sitting there and a woman with her boyfriend were walking by when they stopped near me. The woman said,”You look clean. Myself, and a group of friends have been attending OBF every year for about 15 years (since we were 21). After all those years, some of the guys are traveling 1000+ miles to attend… and the travel costs have really hurt their budgets – but it’s that important to us all. I will be driving down from Seattle for my 5th strait year with my girlfriend. We love the OBF, and having these tickets will make it that much better! my boyfriend and i just started home brewing because of how much we love beer. we’ve been going to brew fest ever since we have been of age. we love to go and try as many different kinds of beer that we can, and now that we are brewing ourselves, we want to find new types of beer that we like.

I anxiously awaited the day when I would be able to go to this festival, but was moved 3,000 miles away during my senior year of high school. Now as my 10 year reunion approaches I am FINALLY back to this great city just in time, only with moving expenses I can’t really afford to take my girlfriend and I. Go figure. Hopefully I’ll win.

Free beer is a nice start! But I had an accident in May, and the mounting medical bills will keep me from otherwise attending.
It would be nice to be able to attend, sample a few brews and forget about the accident/medical bills for a few hours on the banks of the Willamette River.

I have no idea what this is all about? I have never in my life attended this event (and i’ve lived in Portland for 40 years! what a shame huh?) LOL..but I think that I will finally find out what it’s all about this year. I hope it’s fun for all. :=)
