Matador has released ¬ËœDemolished Thoughts', the 4th solo album from Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore (5th if you count 1998¬Â²s ¬ËœRoot') and the first to be produced by Beck Hansen. Recorded in Los Angeles and Northampton, MA this past autumn & winter, with a title culled from The Faith's ¬Å“It's Time¬Â, ¬ËœDemolished Thoughts' is an equally beautiful and brooding work ; while there's more than a few tonal similarities to some of your favorite Moore compositions from years past, the execution this time around is nothing short of staggering.
Philadelphia singer/songwriter KURT VILE returns with his second proper album (2008's Childish Prodigy was a compendium of sorts). Smoke Ring For My Halo is a gorgeously layered record. Ranging from the tender breezy folk in ¬Å“Jesus Fever¬Â to the tuff urban guitar riff of ¬Å“Puppet To The Man,¬Â Vile's distinctive Philly-accented vocal ties together a sweeping & evocative project – a true American psychedelic folk album.

I’d like to win tickets because last time I saw Thurston Moore he played with Yoko Ono in NYC and… well, enough said… I think I need a better introduction to his live performances.

Big big fan of Moore and I miss the Los Angeles element in my life :( I think if could score some tickets I could relive some of my memories living in southern CA and could finally convince my bf that Sonic Youth is a fucking BADASS band. :D

I am the chosen one…pick me
July 15, 2011 at 11:09
This is a pretty awesome bill. I’ve seen Sonic Youth live many times, but I’ve never had a chance to catch Moore solo. Would love to have the opportunity!
July 15, 2011 at 11:25
pick me!

Everyone wants to see Thurston, including me,
but i thought I’d write a cheesy poem so you could see,
that rhyming takes effort and no shame,
but who’s to mother f-ing blame?
I was just got laid off from my lame ass job,
am now am just a broke, ugly blob.
maybe getting into the show will also get me laid,
and ultimately get a job so i can get paid.

I just had a dream I drove across country during the apocalypse to find my girl and while I was seeing off my travel buddies on the other coast she found me and we went into a field in the middle of the city where she flashed a bunch a kids and everyone was real sweaty. I like free things. Dreams are free. Hook me up and I’ll think I have luck….look at all these entries!!!

It’s my last week in Portland and I would love to see this show before I go.

Thurston Moore is, was and will always be an iconic figure of sound to me. Since the day I dicided to buy a used copy of Experimental Jet Set Trash and No Star I could simply not get enough. Needless to say, I couldn’t. When Sonic Youth wasn’t releasing albums, Lee or Thurston was. As both a band and as individual artists they have kept me on my toes, ever-evolving. If I win these tickets, I promise I will “Fuck Shit Up.”
July 17, 2011 at 10:56
Let’s just make this clear: Kurt Vile’s ‘smoke ring for my halo’
is my favorite album of 2011. i missed him at bunk bar on his last journey through pdx. SO, i really would melt to see this!! And to see Mr. Moore, you know, Sonic Youth is the jams but i think this would be the opportunity to see if he’s still got it without the undeniably raw and sexy mrs. gordon to wooooooaaaa us.
July 17, 2011 at 10:57
I haven’t seen Thurston Moore since 1993. It would be amazing. Kurt Vile is pretty awesome, too!
July 19, 2011 at 11:03
this sounds great! please pick me!
July 19, 2011 at 12:55
I would like to win because my boyfriend loves Kurt Vile almost more than me and I owe him because I dragged him to a drum and bugle corps show against his will!
July 19, 2011 at 14:08

July 21, 2011 at 11:25
I’d love to win! I love Thurston Moore, have since I was 13. He’s absolutely one of the “icons” that helped shape my tastes and preferences in music and opened doors to a world of fantastic bands and artists.

Big Kurt Vile fan. Would love some tix.
July 21, 2011 at 16:27

July 22, 2011 at 09:58
Been a fan of Thurston for around 25 years (evol) and have never seen him live…sad!
Equally great is that Kurt Vile is opening. Listened to ‘Smoke ring for my Halo’ non-stop this winter on Mt. Hood while skiing.

July 22, 2011 at 13:51
I have always loved Thurston Moore, but I’ve never seen him live. Now he’s in town and I’m unemployed because my government job got cut. Help a local lady out with some free tix.
