Another Saturday in Portland and another street fair. This Saturday is the Division Clinton Street Fair, and unlike last Saturday’s Montavilla Street Fair, nothing but sunshine and blue skies predicted for the 23rd.. There is a beer graden sponsored by Hopworks, and the parade will start @ 10:45 at 50th and Division and ends at SE 26th and Clinton.

This year, the parade will be lead by Mayor Sam Adams and Storm Large. Our sponsors at Hammy’s have a pizza eating contest. Last year that began at 1PM. We’ll update as we get more info.

Beer + College = Rogue Bar Hall Opens @ Portland State Campus

The kids these days are getting much more goodness than when I was at PSU. Today (apparently been open about a month), we got an email that Rogue brewing has opened a bar…I mean study hall area where Paccinni’s restaurant was on the Portland State Park Blocks (Montgomery & Park).

Rogue Beer Hall - Portland State CampusIf you ever went to Portland State, you know that there is a lack of quality bars in the area. For non-students and former students, now you have somewhere to go after listening to bagpipers and didgeridoo-ers at the Farmers Market.

Tuesday: FREE show @ The Know | Toyboat Toyboat Toyboat Apparel-Line Launch

Alberta’s hipster dive bar, The Know, plays host to a free show Tuesday night by toyboat toyboat toyboat. Jonathan Boober at Allmusic.com describes their sound: ¬Å“If Raymond Scott, Martin Denny and Bootsy Collins decided to form a band at Ennio Morricone's house, it might sound something like Toyboat Toyboat Toyboat.¬Â

The Know
2026 NE Alberta Street

toyboat toyboat toyboat combines the heavy intensity of punk with catchy, quirky melodies reminiscent of the golden years of be-bop, along with rhythms from the Caribbean and Balkans. The music is unique but accessible, and always unpredictable.

Audience members have remarked that it sounds like ¬Å“Fugazi meets Miles,¬Â ¬Å“Afrobeat meets Melvins,¬Â ¬Å“Zappa meets Beastie Boys¬Â and ¬Å“Sun Ra meets Devo.¬Â

The instrumentation is unusual, but the results will make you boogie and mosh like any of the classic punk (or funk) heavies. The brainy lyrics and rhythmic twists will appeal to the prog-minded, yet the raw sounds are pure indie rock.

The group mixes rock’n'roll guitar, vocals and drums with the Drum Buddy (a rare light-controlled analog-synth-meets-turntable) and trumpet-played both acoustically and electronically through effects.
