If the opera hall is too stuffy for you this summer, come out to Washington Park and Concordia University this weekend to see a live, abridged version of ‘Carmen’ complete with full orchestra for FREE.

Portland SummerFest Opera In The ParkFamilies welcome! Bring a picnic and a blanket or chairs.  Performed in abridged concert version in French with full orchestra, chorus, and soloist.

STACEY RISHOI, CARMEN, has made recent appearances as Dalila in Samson et Dalila with Nashville Opera, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni with Orlando Opera, Waltraute in Die Walküre with Washington National Opera, Tan Dun’s The First Emperor at the Metropolitan Opera, Mozart’s Requiem with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Adalgisa with Virginia Opera, Waltraute in Die Walküre with Seattle Opera and Canadian Opera Company, Amneris in Aida with Orlando Opera, and Magdalene in Die Meistersinger with the Cincinnati May Festival. In 2010-11 she sings Amneris in Aida with Calgary Opera, Maddalena in Rigoletto with Cincinnati Opera, Madama Larina in Eugene Onegin, and Komponist in Ariadne auf Naxos with Toledo Opera

DANIEL SNYDER, DON JOSÉ, has performed throughout the US, including Max in Der Freischütz and Jimmy Mahoney in Mahagonny with Opera Boston, Don José in Carmen with Connecticut Grand Opera, Shreveport Opera, and the National Philharmonic, Siegmund in Die Walküre and Siegfried in both Siegfried and Götterdämmerung with Pittsburgh Opera Theater, the title role in Les Contes D'hoffmann with Virginia Opera, Siegfried in both Siegfried and Götterdämmerung with Long Beach Opera, and Der Tambourmajor in Wozzeck with the Astoria Music Festival.

RICHARD ZELLER, ESCAMILLO, has been featured at the Metropolitan Opera as Marcello in La Bohème, Andrea Chénier, and Valentin in Faust. Other performances include Germont in La Traviata for Hamburgische Staatsoper, San Diego Opera, Scottish Opera, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Rotterdam and Dublin Opera, Amonsaro in Aida and Macbeth with Portland Opera, Rigoletto with New York City Opera, Conte di Luna in Il Trovatore with San Diego Opera, Scottish Opera, and Portland SummerFest, Marcello in La Bohème with Cincinnati Opera, and Scottish Opera's production of Macbeth at the Edinburgh Festival and the Vienna Festival.

AMY HANSEN, MICAELA, has sung Lakmé with Edmonton and Calgary Operas, Donna Anna in Sacramento Opera’s Don Giovanni, Pamina in Townsend Opera Players’ The Magic Flute, and Despina in Portland Opera and Brooklyn Philharmonic productions of Cosí fan tutte. Oregon appearances include the Oregon and Eugene Symphonies, Opera Theater Corvallis, Rogue Valley Opera, Astoria Music Festival, and Gilda in Rigoletto, Lucia Di Lammermoor, and Violetta in La Traviata with Portland SummerFest.

    attended at Concordia…

    Bravi to all performers – outstanding work – what one could hear of it – rotten raspberries to the sound crew – perhaps the worst job of classical music sound enhancement ever attempted – orchestra totally unbalanced – singers uneven and badly reproduced throughout – and, a pop-music sound track at intermission – absolute classical venue faux pas – clearly a pop crew utterly unmatched to the task – who hires these people?
